[Termes IGN] positionnement par géodésie spatialeRésumé : (Auteur) Precise positioning and timing services have evolved considerably over the past decades. They now represent a vital part of the modern information infrastructure and are entering everyday life. This fantastic growth has been made possible by GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System). These systems are widely used, not only in professional applications but also, by enabling personal navigation (e.g. car navigation or hand-held GPS navigators), in the mass market. Futhermore, a number of key communication technologies like GSM (Global System for Mobile Communications) mobile networks rely on timing information provided by GNSS. At present there two GNSS : the US Global Positioning Sytem (GPS) and the Russian GLONASS (GLObal NAvigation Satellite System). [Termes IGN] visualisation 3DRésumé : (Auteur) Fly-over animated terrain maps have become increasingly popular as overview / reference maps, despite years of research that demonstrates how easily disoriented viewers can become when using them. This project developed four kinds of visual "orientation cues" which are designed to decrease viewer disorientation, and which could be directly embedded into the map scene similar to heads-up-display technology. The effectiveness of these orientation cues was tested. Compared to a map with no orientation cues, the presence of the monorail and landscape grid orientation cues halved subjects' directional error; the horizon compass cue virtually eliminated directional error. Correspondingly, subjects were significantly more confident in their answers and thought the tasks were significantly easier in the presence of these three cues. Similar results were found in the ability of subjects to trace their flight path, although their improvement is less pronounced. However, the fourth orientation cue, landmark labels, was ineffective and created similar (or worse) performance than the map with no orientation cues. [Termes IGN] récepteur GPSRésumé : (Auteur) For the third time, the European Space Agency (ESA) held a workshop on satellite navigation user equipment technologies, Navitec 2006. The conference centre of Estec in Noordwijk, the Netherlands, was filled with scientists from all over Europe from Finland to Portugal. The eleventh to thirteenth of december, the conference filled the two Newton conference rooms with parallel sessions. The topic varied from receiver technologies and developments to carrier phase algorithms and indoor and urban navigation. The fourteenth of december there was a course on the Galileo system. [Termes IGN] signal GPSRésumé : (Auteur) A networked radionavigation approach that augments GPS signals with time-of-arrival observations using a software-defined radio can overcome attenuation, and often complet blockage, of GPS inside buildings [indoor] or in urban canyons. The SDR can operate both as a GPS receiver and also as a 900MHz transceiver operating within the ISM band. Applications for this technology include firefighters and other first responders, and military operations in urban terrain.
