[Termes IGN] seuillage d'imageRésumé : (Auteur) In this paper, we present a hybrid shadow-analysis approach that integrates the model- and property-based methods for detecting collapsed buildings after an earthquake using high-resolution satellite imagery. The framework of the proposed approach has four main steps. (1) The three-dimensional (3D) building model is established according to its footprint and height data stored in a geographical information system. (2) The theoretical shadow area of the building at the time that the post-seismic image was acquired is calculated. And the polygon of the ground shadow area of the building, which is called the theoretical ground shadow polygon, is extracted. (3) The theoretical ground shadow polygon is overlaid with the casting shadow area of the building, which is called the actual shadow area in the post-seismic satellite image, and the mean value of the digital number values of the post-seismic image pixels within the polygon of the theoretical shadow area is calculated. (4) The calculated mean value is compared with predefined thresholds, which are determined by the training pixels collected from the different types of shadows. On this basis, the shadows of totally collapsed, partially collapsed and uncollapsed buildings can be distinguished. A comprehensive experiment for Dujiangyan city, one of the urban areas most severely damaged in the May 2008 Wenchuan Earthquake, was conducted, and the experimental results showed the superiority of the proposed approach to the other existing ones. [Termes IGN] partition des donnéesRésumé : (Auteur) This paper introduces a new approach for the automated detection of buildings from monocular very high resolution (VHR) optical satellite images. First, we investigate the shadow evidence to focus on building regions. To do that, we propose a new fuzzy landscape generation approach to model the directional spatial relationship between buildings and their shadows. Once all landscapes are collected, a pruning process is developed to eliminate the landscapes that may occur due to non-building objects. The final building regions are detected by GrabCut partitioning approach. In this paper, the input requirements of the GrabCut partitioning are automatically extracted from the previously determined shadow and landscape regions, so that the approach gained an efficient fully automated behavior for the detection of buildings. Extensive experiments performed on 20 test sites selected from a set of QuickBird and Geoeye-1 VHR images showed that the proposed approach accurately detects buildings with arbitrary shapes and sizes in complex environments. The tests also revealed that even under challenging environmental and illumination conditions, reasonable building detection performances could be achieved by the proposed approach. [Termes IGN] réflectance végétaleRésumé : (auteur) Material reflectance retrieval from high spatial resolution acquisitions over urban areas requires an accurate modeling of the signal accounting for the 3D environment. Especially in tree shadows, the solar radiation incident to the ground contributing to the estimation of the reflectance has many origins linked to the plant structure and its composition. In this paper, the 3D atmospheric correction code, ICARE, limited to opaque structures like buildings, is improved thanks to an empirical correction factor taking into account the porosity of a tree crown. The validation of this method is assessed through a dataset combining a hyperspectral image and a 3D model of the scene. [Termes IGN] voxelRésumé : (Auteur) Estimates of solar radiation distribution in urban areas are often limited by the complexity of urban environments. These limitations arise from spatial structures such as buildings and trees that affect spatial and temporal distributions of solar fluxes over urban surfaces. The traditional solar radiation models implemented in GIS can address this problem only partially. They can be adequately used only for 2-D surfaces such as terrain and rooftops. However, vertical surfaces, such as facades, require a 3-D approach. This study presents a new 3-D solar radiation model for urban areas represented by 3-D city models. The v.sun module implemented in GRASS GIS is based on the existing solar radiation methodology used in the topographic r.sun model with a new capability to process 3-D vector data representing complex urban environments. The calculation procedure is based on the combined vector-voxel approach segmenting the 3-D vector objects to smaller polygon elements according to a voxel data structure of the volume region. The shadowing effects of surrounding objects are considered using a unique shadowing algorithm. The proposed model has been applied to the sample urban area with results showing strong spatial and temporal variations of solar radiation flows over complex urban surfaces.
