[Termes IGN] trilatérationRésumé : (Auteur) Catadioptric cameras broaden the field of view and reveal otherwise occluded object parts. They differ geometrically from central-perspective cameras because of light reflection from the mirror surface. To handle these effects, we present new pose-estimation and reconstruction models for imaging through spherical mirrors. We derive a closed-form equivalent to the collinearity principle via which three methods are established to estimate the system parameters: a resection-based one, a trilateration-based one that introduces novel constraints that enhance accuracy, and a direct and linear transform-based one. The estimated system parameters exhibit improved accuracy compared to the state of the art, and analysis shows intrinsic robustness to the presence of a high fraction of outliers. We then show that 3D point reconstruction can be performed at accurate levels. Thus, we provide an in-depth look into the geometrical modeling of spherical catadioptric systems and practical enhancements of accuracies and requirements to reach them. [Termes IGN] zone urbaineRésumé : (auteur) This research presents a processing workflow to automatically find damaged building areas in an urban context. The input data requirements are high-resolution multi-view images, acquired from airborne platform. The elevations are derived from a dense surface model generated with photogrammetric methods. With the principal objective of rapid response in emergency situations, two different processing roadmaps are proposed, semi-supervised and unsupervised. Both of them follow a two-step workflow of building detection and building health estimation. Optionally, cadastral layers may serve as a-priori knowledge on building location. The semi-supervised approach involves a data training step, while the unsupervised approach exploits the similarities and dissimilarities between sets of features calculated over the detected buildings. The change detection task is formulated as a classification task defined over a conditional random field. The algorithms are evaluated using two datasets (Vexcel and Midas cameras) and results are compared with ground truth data and specific metrics. [Termes IGN] traitement d'imageRésumé : (Auteur) Image-to-geometry registration is the basis of many applications for texturing and interpreting 3D surface models. Feature-based matching is an established, automatic approach which creates 2D–3D correspondences based on salient points and their radiometric neighbourhood. This paper presents an experimental approach for assessing the accuracy of several matching algorithms in challenging imaging environments that are subject to significant outdoor illumination variations. Furthermore, a collection of accuracy assessment metrics and quality heuristics emerge from the presented approach to guide a user during the examination of registration results. As a result of the experiments, two novel salient point descriptor matching combinations outperform the standard scale-invariant feature transform (SIFT) operator on the task of image-to-image and image-to-geometry registration under varying illumination conditions. [Termes IGN] réflectance spectraleRésumé : (Auteur) The fusion of hyperspectral imaging (HSI) sensor and airborne lidar scanner (ALS) data provides promising potential for applications in environmental sciences. Standard fusion approaches use reflectance information from the HSI and distance measurements from the ALS to increase data dimensionality and geometric accuracy. However, the potential for data fusion based on the respective intensity information of the complementary active and passive sensor systems is high and not yet fully exploited. Here, an approach for the rigorous illumination correction of HSI data, based on the radiometric cross-calibrated return intensity information of ALS data, is presented. The cross calibration utilizes a ray tracing-based fusion of both sensor measurements by intersecting their particular beam shapes. The developed method is capable of compensating for the drawbacks of passive HSI systems, such as cast and cloud shadowing effects, illumination changes over time, across track illumination, and partly anisotropy effects. During processing, spatial and temporal differences in illumination patterns are detected and corrected over the entire HSI wavelength domain. The improvement in the classification accuracy of urban and vegetation surfaces demonstrates the benefit and potential of the proposed HSI illumination correction. The presented approach is the first step toward the rigorous in-flight fusion of passive and active system characteristics, enabling new capabilities for a variety of applications. [Termes IGN] intensité lumineuseRésumé : (Auteur) Enhancement algorithms are absolutely necessary for the visualization of both shadowed and bright image regions. Defining algorithms that permit to visualize them simultaneously without altering the image content is therefore extremely relevant for remote sensing applications. In this paper, we present the results of two successive benchmarks which tested the performance of the state-of-the-art contrast enhancement and benchmarks algorithms applied to satellite images. Experts from the French Space Agency Centre National d'Etudes Spatiales (CNES), Service Régional de Traitement d'Image et de Télédétection (SERTIT), and two European universities assessed the quality and fidelity of the results of several state-of-the-art enhancement algorithms on the excerpts from seven images (five Pleiades and two simulated 30-cm images). The first benchmark permitted to tighten the procedure and the selection of the test images for the second one, and to make a first selection of concurrent algorithms. The second benchmark not only included the best algorithms selected by the first benchmark but also added even more competitors in the tone-mapping class. The results of both benchmarks were coherent. They point a particular retinex-based algorithm as the best compromise between the competitive requirements of a contrast enhancement in dark regions and a preservation of detail in bright parts.
