[Vedettes matières IGN] GéovisualisationRésumé : (Auteur) Using transparency as a visual variable in 3D geo-visualization offers several advantages since it can encode underlying data and at the same time relieve the occlusion. However, the usability of transparency has yet to be tested with intended users and it might vary from one application domain to another or from one task to another. This research project addresses the usability of transparency in 3D cadastre visualization, more specifically whether it helps users delimit property units (administrative boundaries) with their physical counterparts (e.g., walls) in condominium situation. In this situation, three types of boundaries (simple physical, simple administrative, and linked boundary, which is both physical and administrative) are involved in visualization, and three different transparency levels are used to represent these types. Empirical tests are administered in the form of an online questionnaire for university students in law (notarial law) and land surveying. The results show that, in general, using three different transparency levels is preferable and efficient solution to help users demarcate property units with their physical counterparts, and 63% participants correctly achieved their visual tasks with this design. Also, the transparency settings influence user’s performance. For example, applying very high transparency to simple administrative boundaries as compared to simple physical boundaries improves user certainty. Another important discovery is that many university students in notarial law are inexperienced with 3D visualization, and such inexperience affects the viewer’s certitude when carrying out visual tasks. [Termes IGN] utilisation du solRésumé : (Auteur) The first maps and studies in the field of land use were initiated in the United States as early as before World War I. Between the two world wars such studies were carried out with the main focus on regional planning. Planning process at all levels is usually based on rich statistical materials, which allows to compare the state of the space in different time periods. In the presented paper, the authors investigated transformations of the spatial structure of lands for a part of Podgórze, the district of Krakow for the period of the past 169 years. Source materials utilised for the research works and analyses included cadastral maps from the selected analysed years, i.e. 1847, 1909, 2003 and 2016. Based on the mentioned materials, the characteristics of land parcels as spatial features were analysed and changes were determined for the periods of 1847–1909, 1909–2003 and 2003–2016 showing the present situation. Computer processing of maps was performed for this purpose, and distributions and correlations between spatial variables characterizing parcel structure were analysed for the study area. [Termes IGN] utilisation du solRésumé : (Auteur) Historical enclosure era property-related maps can tell us a great deal about the life and times of communities in the past. This study offers a unique approach to studying the historical landscape by applying GIS techniques to the examination of an eighteenth-century English village. Using novel GIS applications relying on historical maps, the study explores various aspects of the village’s physical and social characteristics. In doing so, the study forges effective linkages between cultural and landscape variables to reveal aspects of the historical landscape in eighteenth-century Britain previously inaccessible to researchers. This, in turn, provides a much more comprehensive and sophisticated template for future use by historical geographers in a number of contexts.
