[Termes IGN] pas d'échantillonnage au solRésumé : (Auteur) High-resolution satellite images (HRSI) at sub-5 m footprint are becoming increasingly available. A set of algorithms for processing of HRSI has been developed at the Institute of Geodesy and Photogrammetry (IGP), ETH Zurich and realised in a software suite called Satellite Image Precision Processing (SAT-PP). The software has been used for the processing of a number of high resolution satellite sensors, such as IKONOS, QuickBird, SPOT 5 HRS/HRG, Cartosat-1 and ALOS PRISM. PRISM is a panchromatic radiometer carried on board the Japanese ALOS satellite. It has three optical systems for forward, nadir and backward view with 2·5 m ground sample distance (GSD). The photogrammetric processing of PRISM imagery has special requirements owing to the linear array CCD sensor structure and special characteristics of the interior geometry and exterior orientation. As a member of the ALOS calibration/validation team, new algorithms for geometric processing of the PRISM images have been implemented at the IGP, in particular for the interior orientation and self-calibration. The physical sensor model in SAT-PP is refined according to the multiple camera heads of the sensor. The rigorous model for PRISM is based on a modified bundle adjustment with the possibility of using two different trajectory models. The self-calibration is introduced into the adjustment to model the systematic errors of the sensor and the system as a whole. The methods of georeferencing and digital surface model (DSM) generation were tested using the PRISM data-sets acquired over five different testfields. The rigorous sensor model performed well and resulted in sub-pixel accuracy for point positioning in all testfields. The self-calibration model has been tested in two different phases of the project separately. In the initial phase, where interior orientation data was not available, the use of the self-calibration was essential to achieve good accuracy. However, in the later phase the relative positions of the CCD chip detectors on the focal plane were provided by the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) and the improvements by self-calibration became less significant. A detailed analysis of the DSM generation is presented in another publication. [Termes IGN] précision géométrique (imagerie)Résumé : (Auteur) Digital Elevation Models (DEMs) are traditionally acquired from a stereo pair of aerial photographs sequentially captured by an airborne metric camera. Standard DEM extraction techniques can be naturally extended to satellite imagery, but the particular characteristics of satellite imaging can cause difficulties. The spacecraft ephemeris with respect to the ground site during image collects is the most important factor in the elevation extraction process. When the angle of separation between the stereo images is small, the extraction process typically produces measurements with low accuracy, while a large angle of separation can cause an excessive number of erroneous points in the DEM from occlusion of ground areas. The use of three or more images registered to the same ground area can potentially reduce these problems and improve the accuracy of the extracted DEM. The pointing capability of some sensors, such as the Multispectral Thermal Imager (MTI), allows for multiple collects of the same area from different perspectives. This functionality of MTI makes it a good candidate for the implementation of a DEM extraction algorithm using multiple images for improved accuracy. Evaluation of this capability and development of algorithms to geometrically model the MTI sensor and extract DEMs from multi-look MTI imagery are described in this paper. An RMS elevation error of 6.3-meters is achieved using 11 ground test points, while the MTI band has a 5-meter ground sample distance. [Termes IGN] reliefRésumé : (Auteur) Orthophoto production aims at the elimination of sensor tilt and terrain relief effects from captured perspective imagery. Uniform scale and the absence of relief displacement in orthophotos make them an important component of GIS databases, where the user can directly determine geographic locations, measure distances, compute areas, and derive other useful information about the area in question. Differential rectification has been traditionally used for orthophoto generation. For large scale imagery over urban areas, differential rectification produces serious artifacts in the form of double mapped areas at object space locations with sudden relief variations, e.g., in the vicinity of buildings. Such artifacts are removed through true orthophoto generation methodologies which are based on the identification of occluded portions of the object space in the involved imagery. Existing methodologies suffer from several problems such as their sensitivity to the sampling interval of the digital surface model (DSM) as it relates to the ground sampling distance (GSD) of the imaging sensor. Moreover, current methodologies rely on the availability of a digital building model (DBM), which requires an additional and expensive pre-processing. This paper presents new methodologies for true orthophoto generation while circumventing the problems associated with existing techniques. The feasibility and performance of the suggested techniques are verified through experimental results with simulated and real data. [Termes IGN] pouvoir de résolution géométriqueRésumé : (Auteur) The present article reports the results of an extensive empirical evaluation of spatial resolution of a digital large format Intergraph DMC sensor. The parameters of the study were flight direction, ground sample distance (GSD) and the distance from the image center. The key finding of the study was that the resolution of the DMC panchromatic large-format image was clearly dependent on the distance from the image center. One reason for this behavior is that the DMC large-format image is composed of four oblique images; the resolution of the oblique images is reduced towards the image border due to the scale reduction and projective distortion. From the image pixel size of 12 um of DMC, a nominal resolving power value (RP) 84 lines/mm can be derived. Maximal resolution reduction factors in the image comers, caused by the image tilt, were 1.6 in the cross-flight direction and 1.4 in the flight direction. The distance from the image center did not appear to affect the resolution of the low-resolution multi-spectral images looking towards nadir. The observed MTFs indicated attractive behavior. The A WAR values of the panchromatic images were between 61 and 71 lines/mm, which is 1.2-1.4 times the nominal RP-value. Other important findings were the effects of GSD and flight direction on the resolution; these properties evidently characterize the behavior of the entire photogrammetric system tested. The image restoration by a linear restoring finite impulse response filter provided a constant resolution improvement factor of 1.4.
