[Termes IGN] ruissellementRésumé : (Auteur) This paper reports an investigation on the accuracy of gridbased routing algorithms used in hydrological models. A quantitative methodology has been developed for objective and dataindependent assessment of errors generated from the algorithms that extract hydrological parameters from gridded DEM. The generic approach is to use artificial surfaces that can be described by a mathematical model, thus the 'true' output value can be predetermined to avoid uncertainty caused by uncontrollable data errors. Four mathematical surfaces based on all ellipsoid (representing convex slopes), an inverse ellipsoid (representing concave slopes), saddle and plane were generated and the theoretical 'true' value of the Specific Catchment Area (SCA) at any given point on the surfaces could be computed using mathematical inference. Based on these models, tests were made on a number of algorithms for SCA computation. The actual output values from these algorithms on the convex, concave, saddle and plane surfaces were compared with the theoretical 'true' values, and the errors were then analysed statistically. The strengths and weaknesses of the selected algorithms are also discussed. [Termes IGN] radargrammétrieRésumé : (Auteur) This paper shows results of digital elevation models (DEMs) generated from various RADARSAT stereopairs (fine, standard, extended) over three different topographic study sites (flattorolling, rollingtomountainous, mountainoustosteep) using 31) parametric modcling developed at the Canada Centre for Remote Sensing (CCRS) and an automated image matching method. Reference topographic DEMs were first used to compute terrain slope and aspect and then to evaluate the accuracy of the stereoderived DEMs as a function of the slopes and aspects. The DEM accuracy was almost linearly correlated with the terrain slope, with the larger errors in the steepest slopes. In addition, the stronger the stereo radar geometry, the more heterogeneous the DEM is. For the aspect, the best and worse results generally occurred in the foreslopes and backslopes, respectively, and there is no specific trend in the azimuth. Finally, the more pronounced the relief, the higher the correlation between the elevation accuracy and the aspect is and the larger the variations of the elevation accuracy are. [Termes IGN] segment de droiteRésumé : (Auteur) In this paper, a method to generate a digital elevation model (DEM) from contour lines is proposed. The method is characterized by 16 search directions to find the steepest slope direction from a grid point to the nearest and second nearest contour lines, an interpolation along the steepest slope segment chain, an improved identification of slope grid points, and a monotone interpolation provided by a simple cubic Hermit function to interpolate slope grid points. Noticeable improvements are achieved in the generated DEM from the proposed method against the DEM produced by the Geological Survey Institute (GSI) of Japan. [Termes IGN] radar à antenne synthétiqueRésumé : (Auteur) In recent studies, Schuler et al. applied polarimetric imaging radar-derived orientation angles to measure topography, and Lee et al. used orientation angles for polarimetric SAR data compensation, to ensure acurately estimateation of geophysical parameters in regged terrain areas. To support these applications, its is important to accurately estimate shifts in orientation angles induced by azimuth slope variations. However, in many cases, inconsistency in the estimation of orientation angle shifts was encountered in several areas, introducing moisy and erroneous results. In this paper, we developp a unified analysis of estimation algorithms based on the circular polarization covariance matrix. The concept of reflection symmetry is used to explain the soundness of the circular polarization method and to show problems associated with other algorithms. L-band polarimetric synthetic aperture radar (SAR) images of Camp Roberts, CA, are used to substantiate this theory.
