[Termes IGN] utilisation du solRésumé : (Auteur) Among the various natural hazards, mass movements (MM) are probably the most damaging to the natural and human environment in Mediterranean countries, including Lebanon which represents a good case study. This research deals with how to use Geographic Information Systems (GIS) for establishing the relationships between MM occurrence and different factor terrain parameters over a representative region of Lebanon. Parameters expressed by: 1-ancillary data like lithology, proximity to fault zone, soil type, land cover/use, distance to drainage line and rainfall quantity, and 2-derived data like slope gradient and slope aspect, were correlated with MM using GIS-approaches. The MM were first detected through visual interpretation of two stereo-pairs of SPOT 4 images (anaglyph) at 10 m resolution. This study indicates, depending on bivariate Remote Sensing and GIS statistical correlations (Kendall Tau-b correlation), that the lithology is the most influencing factor on MM occurrence. It also shows that statistical correlations to mass movements exist best between factors at the following decreasing order of importance: lithology-proximity to fault line, lithology-soil type and lithology- distance to drainage line at 1% level of significance, and soil-land cover/use, slope aspect-land cover/use, and soil-slope gradient at 5% level of significance. These correlations were verified and checked through field observations and explained using univariate statistical correlations. Therefore, they could be extrapolated to other Mediterranean countries having similar geoenvironmental conditions. [Termes IGN] triangulation localeRésumé : (Auteur) Triangulated irregular networks (TIN) can form the basis for multiple-resolution representations in distributed hydrogeomorphic simulations over complex basins. Current methods for deriving TIN meshes depend primarily on surface slope without considering other terrain attributes significant to the watershed response such as the specific basin area. As an alternative, we present a methodology for combining a hydrogeomorphic or landscape index with an unstructured triangulated mesh. Landscape indices provide a concise method for describing steady-state terrain processes by isolating the dominant physical factors. The mesh-generation algorithm results in an adaptive discretization that resembles the spatial pattern of the landscape index with a high resolution retained in areas expected to impact the basin response. We compare the proposed algorithm with a slope-preserving method as a means for initializing the terrain representation in two TIN-based hydrogeomorphic models. Through three case studies in saturation-excess runoff, transport-limited soil erosion and shallow landslide simulation, we assess the distributed model sensitivity to the triangulated terrain algorithm. Model comparisons reveal that the process-based triangulations focus the distributed simulation in regions anticipated via a steady-state index to affect the transient watershed response. [Termes IGN] penteRésumé : (Auteur) This paper compares three methods for removing non-ground measurements from airborne laser scanning data. These methods, including the elevation threshold with expanding window (ETEW), maximum local slope (MLS), and progressive morphological (PM) filters, analyze data points based on variations of local slope, and elevation. Low and high-relief data sets with various densities of trees, houses, and sand dunes were selected to test the filtering methods. The results show that all three methods can effectively remove most non-ground points in both low-relief urban and high-relief forested areas. The PM filter generated the best result in coastal barrier island areas, whereas the other algorithms tended to remove the tops of steep sand dunes. Each method experienced various omission or commission errors, depending on the filtering parameters. Topographic slope is the most sensitive parameter for the three filtering methods.
