[Termes IGN] système d'information géographiqueRésumé : (éditeur) Monitoring of water and land objects enters a revolutionary age with the rise of ubiquitous remote sensing and public access. Earth monitoring satellites permit detailed, descriptive, quantitative, holistic, standardized, global evaluation of the state of the Earth skin in a manner that our actual Earthen civilization has never been able to before. The water monitoring topics covered in this book include the remote sensing of open water bodies, wetlands and small lakes, snow depth and underwater seagrass, along with a variety of remote sensing techniques, platforms, and sensors. The Earth monitoring topics include geomorphology, land cover in arid climate, and disaster assessment after a tsunami. Finally, advanced topics of remote sensing covers atmosphere analysis with GNSS signals, earthquake visual monitoring, and fundamental analyses of laser reflectometry in the atmosphere medium. [Termes IGN] transport éolienRésumé : (Auteur) Morphodynamic changes at sandy coasts, as are dominant in the Netherlands, are typically monitored at yearly intervals by means of airborne laser scanning. Meanwhile it is recognised that beach morphodynamics is not a regular process and is strongly correlated to meteorological conditions. A series of 25 terrestrial laser scans of a beach experiment is analysed, obtained during a time period of 88 hours, characterised by changing weather conditions including strong wind and rain. It is shown that after a conversion to a cylindrical grid, different deformation regimes can be identified and rates of elevation changes below 1 mm per hour can be detected. Simultaneously, an analysis of distances between targets through time demonstrates the sensitivity of the used measurement set-up to the harsh weather conditions. [Termes IGN] surveillance géologiqueRésumé : (Auteur) Together with the hardware, specialised geotechnical analysis software allows quarry operators to gather and interpret rock-mass data from a safe distance, sometimes as far away as the periphery of the quarry. Lidar tools such as Optech's ILRIS not only for remote collection of geotechnical data, but also provide more detailed survey information than previous tools such as a compass-clinometer. [Termes IGN] tsunamiRésumé : (Auteur) Geomatics is not primarily aimed at investigating the causes and physical phenomena related to earthquake events. It has, however, over recent years established a fundamental role in monitoring and describing changes to the Earth’s surface. In particular, this article describes the state of the art of the GPS contribution to Seismology, and presents an innovative methodology, VADASE, that enables accurate estimation of co-seismic displacement waveforms in real time using standard broadcast products and high-rate carrier-phase observations collected by a unique GPS receiver. This represents a potential enhancement to GPS Seismology and an effective support for tsunami early warning systems.
