[Termes IGN] transformation en ondelettesRésumé : (Auteur) Shape and spectra are both important features of high spatial resolution remotely sensed (HSRRS) imagery, and they are concrete manifestation of textures on such imagery. This paper presents a spatial feature index, pixel shape index (PSI), to describe the shape feature in a local area surrounding a pixel. PSI is a pixel-based feature which measures the gray similarity distance in every direction. As merely the shape feature is inadequate for classifying HSRRS imagery, a transformed spectral feature extracted by independent component analysis is added to the input vectors of our classifier, and this replaces the original multispectral bands. Meanwhile, a fast fusion algorithm that integrates both shape and spectral features using the support vector machine has been developed to interpret the complex input vectors. The results by PSI are compared with some spatial features extracted using wavelet transform, gray level co-occurrence matrix, and the length–width extraction algorithm to test its effectiveness. The experiments demonstrate that PSI is capable of describing shape features effectively and result in more accurate classifications than other methods. While it is found that spectral and shape features can complement each other and their integration can improve classification accuracy, the transformed spectral components are also found to be more suitable for classification. [Termes IGN] précision géométrique (imagerie)Résumé : (Auteur) Test field system calibration will be a fundamental part of the future photogrammetric production line. Accurate calibration and performance evaluations are necessary for fully assessing the stability and accuracy of digital sensing techniques. In this paper, a method of comprehensive geometric calibration in a test field has been developed and empirically tested using eight image blocks collected with three UltraCamD digital large format photogrammetric cameras. Permanent photogrammetric test fields form the basis of the method. Important components of the method are determination of system parameters, evaluation of systematic errors, and assessment of geometric accuracy. The results showed that UltraCamD images contained systematic deformations that could not be modeled with single lens additional parameter models. Good point determination accuracy was obtained despite the systematic errors ; the typical accuracy was 2–3 um in image space in the horizontal coordinates and 0.05–0.09 of the object distance in height. One of the cameras had significantly poorer performance. In the worst cases, the horizontal accuracy was 5 um in image space and the height accuracy was 0.18 of the object distance. The analog cameras gave better results than the UltraCamD, but the development of appropriate mathematical models for UltraCamD as well as improvements in digital sensors may change the situation in the near future. [Termes IGN] qualité géométrique (image)Résumé : (Auteur) This paper describes a geometric evaluation of the photogrammetric workflow resulting from an experimental aerial survey performed using a Leica Airborne Digital Sensor (ADS40) system. Imagery of a 13 km2 study area in the United Kingdom was captured using an ADS40. The study area was flown with the ADS40 at four different altitudes with resulting imagery at ground sampled distances of 15, 20, 25 and 30 cm. Ground points, comprising natural features distributed throughout the study area, were surveyed using GPS methods. In addition, RC30 film imagery and data from a lidar survey conducted using an Optech ALTM 2050 airborne laser scanner was also available for use in validation. The ADS40 imagery of the study area was processed using standard commercial software and a number of tests were conducted to geometrically assess the photogrammetric performance of imagery from the sensor at various stages throughout the photogrammetric workflow. Experiments examined the influence of ground control points (GCPs) in bundle block adjustment and the performance of digital elevation models (DEMs) resulting from the processing of ADS40 imagery. This independent research has permitted a series of initial conclusions to be drawn and preliminary recommendations to be made for optimum deployment of the ADS40 sensor under certain operational conditions. For example, it is shown that, despite advances made in direct positioning and orientation using integrated satellite and inertial surveying, the importing of GCPs into the block adjustment process remains a critical issue influencing the achievable accuracy during photogrammetric measurement. [Termes IGN] propagation d'erreurRésumé : (Auteur) Three forms of linear interpolation are routinely implemented in geographical information science, by interpolating between measurements made at the endpoints of a line, the vertices of a triangle, and the vertices of a rectangle (bilinear interpolation). Assuming the linear form of interpolation to be correct, we study the propagation of error when measurement error variances and covariances are known for the samples at the vertices of these geometric objects. We derive prediction error variances associated with interpolated values at generic points in the above objects, as well as expected (average) prediction error variances over random locations in these objects. We also place all the three variants of linear interpolation mentioned above within a geostatistical framework, and illustrate that they can be seen as particular cases of Universal Kriging (UK). We demonstrate that different definitions of measurement error in UK lead to different UK variants that, for particular expected profiles or surfaces (drift models), yield weights and predictions identical with the interpolation methods considered above, but produce fundamentally different (yet equally plausible from a pure data standpoint) prediction error variances.
