[Termes IGN] SyrieRésumé : (Auteur) This research aimed at studying the spectral reflectance intensity of different exposed volcanic rocks in Syria, and drawing their curves by radiometer measurements. In order to reach this goal, we have studied different kinds of volcanic rocks related to different ages, from the Jurassic until the recent Quaternary, and composed of fresh and altered basalt, phonolite and volcanic tuff. We measured the reflected rays of the volcanic rocks by using radiometers equipped with filters for the multi-spectral scanners (TM, MSS and SPOT), and the recorded information was treated according to the equation Reflectance = (Radiance + Dark current) Calibration factor / (Irradiance+ Dark current) Calibration factor. Furthermore, through this equation, we made a calculation for the reflectance intensity of each kind of measured rocks with different channels. We then showed the results of our measurements graphically. After that, we represented the average of the reflectance intensity curves for the various kinds of rocks, and for each kind of the mentioned scanners. We also determined the relative values of reflection in the different spectral channels to cancel the effect of the shadow, and to obtain the best information to help in designing and developing remote sensing survey equipment to recognize the mentioned rocks accurately. [Termes IGN] radiosondageRésumé : (Auteur) Backscattered solar radiation as measured by MOS (Modular Optoelectronical Scanner) on the IRS3 (Indian Remote sensing Satellite 3) has been used in an algorithm to retrieve cloud top pressure. The algorithm uses a radiance ratio between absorbing channels in the Oxygen-A absorption band at 761 nm and a window channel at 750 nm. The ratios are directly related to the average photon path length, which is mainly determined by the cloud top pressure. This paper presents the principles of the retrieval scheme, results of a sensitivity study and a first validation using radiosondes. [Termes IGN] tâche image d'un pointRésumé : (Auteur) Light scattering in fore-optics of imaging radiometric instruments degrades images, the signal of dark pixels is enhanced and that of bright pixels is reduced. A procedure of restoring hemispherical images obtained with a hemispheric view CCD-radiometer is suggested. The circular hemispheric image is projected onto the sphere and Wiener filtering on the sphere is performed. For building the Wiener filter the point spread function of the instrument was measured in the laboratory, and test images of (partially) controlled radiance were measured. The procedure is applied for the correction of hemispherical radiometric images taken under forest canopy. In non-corrected near infrared images the signal of sky pixels in forest canopy gaps near zenith is enhanced 1.4–2.0 times. The applied correction reduces this error to the level of 1.1–1.2. In the red channel these figures are 0.8–0.9 and 0.97–0.99, respectively. [Termes IGN] zone urbaineRésumé : (auteur) Automatic mapping of urban materials from remotely sensed radiance images remains difficult because of the complex physical phenomena induced by relief. Indeed, shadows and environment effects disrupt the radiance incoming the sensor. Moreover, the measured radiance depends on the illumination conditions of the observed area. This is quite problematic for multi-temporal analysis. Images are often taken in different illumination conditions thus shadows are not located in the same place. This paper describes a new physical model, ICARE, able to solve the radiative transfer inversion problem over urban areas, in the reflective domain (0.4 μm – 2.5 μm), from high spatial and spectral resolution images. This new approach takes into account the complex relief of 3D structures, the spatial heterogeneity of the scene and atmospheric effects, in order to extract rigorously the ground surface reflectance, even in shadows areas. The resolution method consists in modelling separately the irradiance and radiance components at ground and sensor levels. The validation of ICARE is checked through the CAPITOUL trial, carried out in Toulouse (France, 2004). Measurements were performed using two airborne Pelican image systems consisting in 8 high spatial (20 cm) and spectral (30 nm) resolution cameras. Results are presented over typical urban structures in Toulouse center completed by an error budget. They demonstrate that extracted reflectances correspond very well to ground re flectance measurements. Moreover, there is a good continuity between reflectance obtained over sunny and shadowed materials. That proves that shadows areas and environment effects are well corrected. To quantify the gain brought by ICARE, a comparison between classification based on radiance and reflectance images, obtained by inversion, is introduced. [Termes IGN] reconstruction 3DRésumé : (Auteur) Reflected solar radiances measured by the pushbroom cameras of the Multiangle Imaging SpectroRadiometer (MISR) on the Terra satellite at nine viewing angles are combined to give eight stereo pairs. These are analyzed with stereo-photogrammetric methods to measure the geometry of a convective cloud system. Both cloud-top heights and cloud sides are retrieved with a precision of about 200-300 m. Two case studies of deep, convective clouds over ocean are considered. The accuracy of the MISR retrieval is tested in the first case study by reference to coincident, higher resolution stereo data from ASTER, showing how the accuracy of the cloud-top height retrieval is improved using the oblique MISR views. In the second case study, the entire cross-section of the cloud aligned with the viewing azimuthal direction is measured, using all nine cameras. The methodology presented is an important step towards more routine retrievals of the 3D geometrical reconstruction of isolated, deep-convective clouds. Such reconstructions are a necessary prerequisite to the subsequent 3D radiative transfer modeling used to aid the remote sensing of the elusive microphysical properties of such clouds.
