[Termes IGN] régression multipleRésumé : (auteur) This study is aimed at investigating the relationship between landform classification and vegetation in the southwest of Fars province, Iran. First, topographic position index (TPI) is used to perform landform classification using a Shuttle Radar Topography Mission (SRTM) digital elevation model (DEM) with resolution of 30 m. The classification has ten classes; high ridges, midslope ridges, upland drainage, upper slopes, open slopes, plains, valleys, local ridges, midslope drainage and streams. Visual interpretation indicates that for the local, midslope and high ridge landforms, normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) values and tree heights are higher as compared to the other landforms. In addition, it is found that there are positive and significant correlations betweenNDVI and tree height (r = 0.923), and landform and NDVI (r = 0.640). This shows that landform classification and NDVI can be used to predict tree height in the area. High correlation of determination (R2) 0.909 is obtained for the prediction of tree height using landform classification and NDVI. [Termes IGN] télémétrie laser terrestreRésumé : (Auteur) The spatial distribution of the photosynthetic components of a forest canopy plays a key role in ecological related processes such as gas exchange, photosynthesis, and evapotranspiration through affecting radiation regimes of the forest canopy. However, quantitative evaluation of woody materials' contribution to effective leaf area index (LAIe) using 3-D terrestrial laser scanning (TLS) is a challenging work. In this paper, we first identified the differences between directional gap fraction (DGF) and angular gap fraction (AGF) and then developed a local geometric feature-based approach to automatically classify a TLS forest point cloud data (PCD) into three different classes, including nonphotosynthetic canopy components (i.e., stem and branch points), photosynthetic canopy components (i.e., leaf and grass points), and bare ground. In addition, we proposed a new approach named “radial hemispherical point cloud slicing” algorithm to investigate the 3-D spatial distribution of foliage elements and retrieve LAIe from a given forest PCD. Our results showed that nonphotosynthetic canopy components contributed from 19% to 54% to LAIe depending on various forest densities. Moreover, TLS-based LAIe estimates can explain 74.27% variations of digital-hemispherical-photography-based LAIe values with a linear regression statistical model. This paper provides a theoretical foundation for LAI estimation based on the PCD generated using the TLS system and facilitates the application of TLS on retrieving 3-D forest canopy structural biophysical parameters. [Termes IGN] trajectographie par GNSSRésumé : (Auteur) Personal trajectory data are increasingly collected for a variety of academic and recreational pursuits. As access to location data widens and locations are linked to other information repositories, individuals become increasingly vulnerable to identification. The quality and precision of spatially linked attributes are essential to accurate analysis; yet, there is a trade-off between privacy and geographic data resolution. Obfuscation of point data, or masking, is a solution that aims to protect privacy and maximize preservation of spatial pattern. Trajectory data, with multiple locations recorded for an entity over time, is a strong personal identifier. This study explores the balance between privacy and spatial pattern resulting from two methods of obfuscation for personal GPS data: grid masking and random perturbation. These methods are applied to travel survey GPS data in the greater metropolitan regions of Chicago and Atlanta. The rate of pattern correlation between the original and masked data sets declines as the distance thresholds for masking increase. Grid masking at the 250-m threshold preserves route anonymity better than other methods and distance thresholds tested, but preserves spatial pattern least. This study also finds via linear regression that median trip speed and road density are significant predictors of trip anonymity. [Vedettes matières IGN] Inventaire forestierRésumé : (auteur) The objective of this study is to develop a method based on multivariate relevance vector regression (MVRVR) as a kernelbased Bayesian model for the estimation of above-ground biomass (AGB) in the Hyrcanian forests of Iran. Field AGB data from the Hyrcanian forests and multi-temporal PALSAR backscatter values are used for training and testing the methods. The results of the MVRVR method are then compared with other methods: multivariate linear regression (MLR), multilayer perceptron neural network (MLPNN), and support vector regression (SVR). The MLR model showed lower values of R2 than the three other approaches. Although the SVR model was found to be more accurate than MLPNN, it had the lowest saturation point of 224.75 Mg/ha. The use of MVRVR model significantly improves the estimation of AGB (R2 = 0.90; RMSE = 32.05 Mg/ha), and the model showed a superior performance in estimating AGB with the highest saturation point (297.81 Mg/ha).
