We sense, measure, and process data and act accordingly all the time. In fact, real-time monitoring and information is key to a successful business, an assistant in life-saving decisions that healthcare professionals make, and a tool in research that could revolutionize the future. To ensure that sensors address the rapidly developing needs of various areas of our lives and activities, scientists, researchers, manufacturers, and end-users have established an efficient dialogue so that the newest technological achievements in all aspects of real-time sensing can be implemented for the benefit of the wider community. This book documents some of the results of such a dialogue and reports on advances in sensors and sensor systems for existing and emerging real-time monitoring applications. Ionospheric data are derived from these measurements providing outstanding space coverage and time resolution. There are about 200 million independent measurements daily. Researchers need sophisticated software tools to deal with such a large amount of data. We present recent advances and products from the System for Ionosphere Monitoring and Research from GNSS (SIMuRG). Currently, SIMuRG provides the total electron content (TEC) variations filtered within 2–10 min, 10–20 min, and 20–60 min, the Rate of the TEC Index, the Along Arc TEC Rate index, and the vertical TEC. SIMuRG is an online service at http://simurg.iszf.irk.ru. The system can be used free of charge and allows calculating both maps and series for arbitrary time intervals and geographic regions. All the data products are available in the form of data or figures. We discuss the system and its geophysics applications. [Termes IGN] surveillanceRésumé : (Auteur) Sentinel-2 is a wide-swath and fine spatial resolution satellite imaging mission designed for data continuity and enhancement of the Landsat and other missions. The Sentinel-2 data are freely available at the global scale, and have similar wavelengths and the same geographic coordinate system as the Landsat data, which provides an excellent opportunity to fuse these two types of satellite sensor data together. In this paper, a new approach is presented for the fusion of Landsat 8 Operational Land Imager and Sentinel-2 Multispectral Imager data to coordinate their spatial resolutions for continuous global monitoring. The 30 m spatial resolution Landsat 8 bands are downscaled to 10 m using available 10 m Sentinel-2 bands. To account for the land-cover/land-use (LCLU) changes that may have occurred between the Landsat 8 and Sentinel-2 images, the Landsat 8 panchromatic (PAN) band was also incorporated in the fusion process. The experimental results showed that the proposed approach is effective for fusing Landsat 8 with Sentinel-2 data, and the use of the PAN band can decrease the errors introduced by LCLU changes. By fusion of Landsat 8 and Sentinel-2 data, more frequent observations can be produced for continuous monitoring (this is particularly valuable for areas that can be covered easily by clouds, thereby, contaminating some Landsat or Sentinel-2 observations), and the observations are at a consistent fine spatial resolution of 10 m. The products have great potential for timely monitoring of rapid changes. [Termes IGN] trace GPSRésumé : (Auteur) Similar to every process involving quantitative research, the study of migration heavily depends on the data available for analysis. The available movement data limit the type of questions that can be asked, and as a result, certain aspects of human spatial mobility have yet to be examined. The development of information and communication technologies and their widespread adoption offers new datasets, methods and interpretations that make it possible to study social processes at a new level. For example, mobile positioning data can aid in overcoming certain constraints embedded in traditional data sources (such as censuses or questionnaires) for study of the connections between daily mobility and change of residence. This study presents a framework for mapping changes of residence using data from passive mobile positioning and an anchor point model to better understand the limits of these methods and their contribution to understanding long-term mobility. The study concludes that the most important considerations in monitoring change of residence using passive mobile position data include the continuity of the time-series data, the varying structure of the mobile tower network and the diversified nature of human mobility. The fine spatial and temporal granularities of passive mobile positioning data allow us to study human movement at a detailed scale.
