[Termes IGN] série temporelleRésumé : (auteur) Terrestrial laser scanning (TLS) technology is a powerful tool for assessing tree growth based on time series analysis, as it allows a level of scrutiny not achievable using established destructive techniques. We applied TLS technology to 21 wild cherry trees grown in a research plot near Breisach (southern Germany) in order to build quantitative structure models (QSMs) for each tree. Scans were carried out over three subsequent years (2012-2014), so that three QSMs per each tree were constructed. Using the above approach, we were able to assess the annual growth of the individual wild cherry trees in terms of diameter and height, stem and branch volume, and the merchantable timber fraction. In addition, the growth of single branches of sample trees was detected and quantified. The availability of QSMs based on TLS-derived data allowed the accurate determination of crown length and width, as well as the volume reduction as the result of the tree pruning applied after the first scan (2012). The aboveground biomass (AGB) was assessed for each tree based on the QSM-derived volume and published wood density values for wild cherry, and then compared with AGB values estimated with standard allometric methods, obtaining a very high correlation (r2adj= 0.941). We concluded that the proposed approach is an effective non-destructive technique to accurately assess the increase of tree biomass, and discuss its future application in the forestry sector. [Termes IGN] série temporelleRésumé : (auteur) Normal modes of the Earth, or Earth’s free oscillations, correspond to a global deformation of the Earth that vibrates at different frequencies, like a bell, after a strong excitation, usually an earthquake of magnitude greater than 6.5. Normal modes of the Earth were first described by Lord Kelvin (Kelvin, 1863) with a computation of the lowest fundamental spheroidal mode 0S2 frequency for a homogeneous Earth model (Lognonné and Clévédé, 2002). With the theory and the deployment of the first long-period sensors in the late 1950s, day-scale Earth’s free oscillation after large earthquakes has been detected by underground instruments such as strainmeters, gravimeters and seismometers (Benioff et al., 1961) (Dziewonski and Gilbert, 1972) (Mendiguren, 1973). In the 1960s, since the U.S. military developed the first satellite navigation system, Transit, the era of Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) has arrived. Among all navigation satellite systems, Global Positioning System (GPS), operated by the U.S. Department of Defense (DOD), is currently the world’s most utilized satellite navigation system. With the developments of receiver technology and sampling capability, GPS becomes a powerful tool to study long-period Earth deformations such as plate tectonics and post-glacial rebound, or to monitoring short-period and short-duration motion such as waves generated by earthquakes (Bilich et al., 2008). In recent years, several studies have demonstrated the effective use of GPS in estimating coseismic displacement waveforms induced by an earthquake with accuracies ranging from a few millimeters to a few centimeters. In these studies, two well-known processing strategies, single Precise Point Positioning (PPP) and Different Positioning (DP), have been used to reduce the latency between earthquake occurrence and coseimic displacement waveforms estimation. In this thesis, a new approach named Variometric Approach for Displacements Analysis Standalone Engine (VADASE) is used to detect the normal modes of the Earth. Then the Welch’s PSD estimate is applied to transform the time series into frequency domain. Several simulations have been performed on synthetic time series to investigate the influence of noise level, sampling rate, time series length, window size and overlapping rate of Welch’s method, as well as the influence of stacking. The experiments on real data show the capability of VADASE time series for detecting normal modes of the Earth with the help of the stacking method. Some fundamental modes with small amplitude are not visible because the SNR is not sufficient to lift the signal out of the noise. Note de contenu : 1- Normal modes of the Earth

[Termes IGN] station permanenteRésumé : (Auteur) The ITRF2014 is an improved realization of the International Terrestrial Reference System (ITRS) and is demonstrated to be of higher quality than the past ITRF versions. It involves two main innovations dealing with the modeling of station non-linear motions, namely seasonal (annual and semi-annual) signals present in the time series of station positions and post-seismic deformations for 124 sites that were subject to major earthquakes. It is achieved through a two-step procedure: (1) stacking the time series of station positions and Earth Orientation Parameters (EOPs) provided by the four IERS Technique Centers (TC); (2) combining the long-term solutions as obtained in step 1, together with local ties in co-location sites. The two-step procedure makes use of full variance-covariance information provided in SINEX format. The TC solutions incorporated in the ITRF2014 combination are free from any external constraints, thus preserving the actual space geodesy estimates of station positions and EOPs. The ITRF2014 origin is defined in such a way that it has zero translations and translation rates with respect to the mean Earth center of mass, as defined by the SLR station positions time series. Its scale is defined by zero scale factor and zero scale rate with respect to the mean of VLBI and SLR long-term solutions as obtained by stacking their respective time series. The ITRF2014 orientation (at epoch 2010.0) and its rate are aligned to the ITRF2008 using 127 stations of high geodetic quality. The ITRF2014 includes the positions and velocities of 1499 stations located at 975 sites. Figure 1 shows the coverage of these sites, underlying the co-located space geodesy techniques. This technical note describes the main ITRF2014 products: station positions and velocities, the post fit residuals of the least squares adjustment as well as the transformation parameters between ITRF2014 and ITRF2008. The main technical procedure used to generate the ITRF2014, a thorough discussion of its quality as well as most important geodetic and geophysical results were published in Altamimi et al. [2016], appended to this Technical Note. Note de contenu : 1 Summary
