[Termes IGN] superposition d'imagesRésumé : (auteur) The problem of edge detection plays a crucial role in almost all research areas of image processing. If edges are detected accurately, one can detect the location of objects and the parameters such as shape and area can be measured more precisely. In order to overcome the above problem, a feature-based image registration (FBIR) method in combination with an improved version of canny with fuzzy logic is proposed for accurate detection of edges. The major contributions of the present work are summarized in three steps. In the first step, a restoration-based enhancement algorithm is proposed to get a fine image from a distorted noisy image. In the second step, two versions of input images are registered using a modified FBIR approach. In the third step, to overcome the drawback of canny edge detection algorithm, each step of the algorithm is modified. The output is then fed to a “fuzzy inference system”. The “fuzzy rule-based technique”, when applied to the problem of “edge detection”, is very “efficient” because the thickness of the edges can be controlled by simply changing “rules and output parameters”. The domain of the images under consideration is various well-known image databases such as Berkeley and USC-SIPI databases, whereas the proposed method is also suitable for other types of both indoor and outdoor images. The robustness of the proposed method is analysed, compared and evaluated with seven image assessment quality (IAQ) parameters. The performance of the proposed method is compared with some of the state-of-the-art edge detection methods in terms of the seven IAQ parameters. [Termes IGN] superposition d'imagesRésumé : (auteur) Accurate and reliable estimation of Above Ground Biomass (AGB) in tropical forests is much needed for net carbon assessments. The aim of the study is to determine the uncertainty in biomass estimation in terms of field plot size, shape and location error using field plot and remote sensing data in tropical dry deciduous forests of India. Detailed tree measurements and location mapping are performed in 13 (1 ha) plots and 1 a very large permanent plot of 32 ha and AGB is estimated using local volume equations. Remote sensing-based AGB estimated using a multiple linear regression model between the reflectance (Sentinel-2) and backscatter (Sentinel-1) with field AGB. The result shows relative root mean square error of the model decreased by approximately 50% with a plot size increase from 0.01 ha (64%) to 0.64 ha (14%). Furthermore, we also observed that the effect of global positioning system location errors in AGB modelling would be negated by increasing plot size. [Termes IGN] zone urbaineRésumé : (auteur) In this article, a road-network-based geolocalization method is proposed. We match roads in the onboard images to the reference road vector map, and realize successful localization over areas as large as a whole city. The road network matching problem is treated as a point cloud registration problem under the homography transformation and solved under the hypothesize-and-test framework. To tackle the point cloud registration problem, a global projective-invariant feature is proposed, which consists of two road intersections augmented with their tangents. In addition, we propose the necessary conditions for the features to match. This can reduce the candidate matching features, thus accelerating the search to a great extent. These matching candidates are first “filtered” with the model consistency check in parameter space and then tested with similarity metrics to identify the correct transformation. The experiments show that our method can localize an aerial image over an area larger than 1000 km 2 within several seconds on a single CPU. [Termes IGN] transformationRésumé : (auteur) Precise registration of synthetic aperture radar (SAR) images is a nontrivial task since a change in radar-acquisition geometry generates image shifts. In existing system, either the transformation functions are oversimplified, or external measures such as digital elevation model and flight track are required to be precise. In this paper, we proposed a generative Bayesian approach to modelling the displacement vectors that map the position of each pixel in the image, thus avoiding degradation of the transformation function. Rather than providing a point estimate for the transformation function, the proposed method yields a full posterior density function of the transformation function. Especially, the Bayesian model learns all the parameters adaptively, and the procedure is fully automatic. The proposed model is comparable in accuracy to state-of-the-art optical flow methods on the challenging Sintel benchmarks, and outperforms currently published SAR image registration methods on some real SAR data with critical scenes. [Vedettes matières IGN] GéovisualisationRésumé : (auteur) This paper presents a skyline-based approach to enhance the visualization of a new construction project in augmented reality. We propose to process the video stream acquired with a mobile phone to register the real buildings with a 3D city model. We first combine the data acquired with the device’s instruments to estimate a rough user’s pose in the world coordinates system. Then, we use this estimated pose to generate a synthetic image of the user’s view from which we calculate a virtual skyline. In parallel, we extract a real skyline from the real-time video stream. Finally, we match these real and virtual skylines to correct the user’s pose (six degrees of freedom) and thus generate a more realistic augmented reality view. We evaluate the precision and the processing time of our approach using 2D and 3D registration algorithms, as well as with a novel double 2D strategy.
