[Termes IGN] superposition d'imagesRésumé : (Auteur) We describe a procedure to accurately measure ground deformations from optical satellite images. Precise orthorectification is obtained owing to an optimized model of the imaging system, where look directions are linearly corrected to compensate for attitude drifts, and sensor orientation uncertainties are accounted for. We introduce a new computation of the inverse projection matrices for which a rigorous resampling is proposed. The irregular resampling problem is explicitly addressed to avoid introducing aliasing in the ortho-rectified images. Image registration and correlation is achieved with a new iterative unbiased processor that estimates the phase plane in the Fourier domain for subpixel shift detection. Without using supplementary data, raw images are wrapped onto the digital elevation model and coregistered with a 1/50 pixel accuracy. The procedure applies to images from any pushbroom imaging system. We analyze its performance using Satellite pour l'Observation de la Terre (SPOT) images in the case of a null test (no coseismic deformation) and in the case of large coseismic deformations due to the Mw 7.1 Hector Mine, California, earthquake of 1999. The proposed technique would also allow precise coregistration of images for the measurement of surface displacements due to ice-flow or geomorphic processes, or for any other change detection applications. A complete software package, the Coregistration of Optically Sensed Images and Correlation, is available for download from the Caltech Tectonics Observatory website. [Termes IGN] superposition de donnéesRésumé : (Auteur) Surface measurement of complex geometric objects by means of optical techniques, such as laser scanning or photogrammetry, requires multiple views from various stations. The data sets of the views, e.g. point clouds and photogrammetric images, are given in individual coordinate systems. For a complete representation of the objects, the views have to be transformed into one common coordinate system. This task is denoted as registration and involves an estimation of the transformation parameters between different coordinate systems. In this paper, a concept for a pairwise feature based registration of hybrid laser scanner data sets is proposed. The concept includes the feature extraction and description by simultaneous consideration of laser scanner data and photogrammetric images, as well as the recognition of consistent feature correspondences. The features are viewpoint invariant and are described with a rectified image patch on planar surface geometry in object space. Two different data sets are used to demonstrate that the proposed concept for feature extraction, feature description and correspondence search is successful to register hybrid laser scanner data sets with a high level of automation. [Termes IGN] superposition d'imagesRésumé : (Auteur) 3D surface matching would be an ill conditioned problem when the curvature of the object surface is either homogenous or isotropic, e.g. for plane or spherical types of objects. A reliable solution can only be achieved if supplementary information or functional constraints are introduced. In a previous paper, an algorithm for the least squares matching of overlapping 3D surfaces, which were digitized/sampled point by point using a laser scanner device, by the photogrammetric method or other techniques, was proposed [Gruen, A., and Akca, D., 2005. Least squares 3D surface and curve matching. ISPRS Journal of Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing 59 (3), 151–174.]. That method estimates the transformation parameters between two or more fully 3D surfaces, minimizing the Euclidean distances instead of z-differences between the surfaces by least squares. In this paper, an extension to the basic algorithm is given, which can simultaneously match surface geometry and its attribute information, e.g. intensity, colour, temperature, etc. under a combined estimation model. Three experimental results based on terrestrial laser scanner point clouds are presented. The experiments show that the basic algorithm can solve the surface matching problem provided that the object surface has at least the minimal information. If not, the laser scanner derived intensities are used as supplementary information to find a reliable solution. The method derives its mathematical strength from the least squares image matching concept and offers a high level of flexibility for many kinds of 3D surface correspondence problem. [Termes IGN] superposition d'imagesRésumé : (Auteur) This paper presents the Automatic Registration of Remote-Sensing Images (ARRSI); an automatic registration system built to register satellite and aerial remotely sensed images. The system is designed specifically to address the problems associated with the registration of remotely sensed images obtained at different times and/or from different sensors. The ARRSI system is capable of handling remotely sensed images geometrically distorted by various transformations such as translation, rotation, and shear. Global and local contrast issues associated with remotely sensed images are addressed in ARRSI using control-point detection and matching processes based on a phase-congruency model. Intensity-difference issues associated with multimodal registration of remotely sensed images are addressed in ARRSI through the use of features that are invariant to intensity mappings during the control-point matching process. An adaptive control-point matching scheme is employed in ARRSI to reduce the performance issues associated with the registration of large remotely sensed images. Finally, a variation on the Random Sample and Consensus algorithm called Maximum Distance Sample Consensus is introduced in ARRSI to improve the accuracy of the transformation model between two remotely sensed images while minimizing computational overhead. The ARRSI system has been tested using various satellite and aerial remotely sensed images and evaluated based on its accuracy and computational performance. The results indicate that the registration accuracy of ARRSI is comparable to that produced by a human expert and improvement over the baseline and multimodal sum of squared differences registration techniques tested.
