[Termes IGN] transformation de HoughRésumé : (Auteur) In this paper, the possibility of reconstructing object lines using a smartphone’s rear dual camera (wide-angle and telephoto) was examined through designing a semi-automatic system. After calibrating both cameras, six scenes for each of three objects were captured and rectified. Object lines were categorised into six groups based on the distance and angle to the dual camera system. Image lines were extracted using the linear Hough transform technique and points of intersection detected. Stereo pairing of conjugate points then allowed the calculation of object coordinates and the lengths of object lines were compared to their lengths measured by a digital caliper. The best line reconstruction results were achieved with the smallest distance and angle to the dual camera system. [Termes IGN] ville intelligenteRésumé : (auteur) The growing ubiquity of location/activity sensing technologies and location-based services (LBS) has led to a large volume and variety of location-based big data (LocBigData), such as location tracking or sensing data, social media data, and crowdsourced geographic information. The increasing availability of such LocBigData has created unprecedented opportunities for research on urban systems and human environments in general. In this article, we first review the common types of LocBigData: mobile phone network data, GPS data, Location-based social media data, LBS usage/log data, smart card travel data, beacon log data (WiFi or Bluetooth), and camera imagery data. Secondly, we describe the opportunities fueled by LocBigData for the realization of smart cities, mainly via answering questions ranging from “what happened” and “why did it happen” to “what's likely to happen in the future” and “what to do next”. Thirdly, pitfalls of dealing with LocBigData are summarized, such as high volume/velocity/variety; non-random sampling; messy and not clean data; and correlations rather than causal relationships. Finally, we review the state-of-the-art research trends in this field, and conclude the article with a list of open research challenges and a research agenda for LocBigData research to help achieve the vision of smart and sustainable cities. [Termes IGN] vision par ordinateurRésumé : (auteur) The real-time kinematic positioning technique (RTK) and visual–inertial odometry (VIO) are both promising positioning technologies. However, RTK degrades in GNSS-hostile areas, where global navigation satellite system (GNSS) signals are reflected and blocked, while VIO is affected by long-term drift. The integration of RTK and VIO can improve the accuracy and robustness of positioning. In recent years, smartphones equipped with multiple sensors have become commodities and can provide measurements for integrating RTK and VIO. This paper verifies the feasibility of integrating RTK and VIO using smartphones, and we propose an improved algorithm to integrate RTK and VIO with better performance. We began by developing an Android smartphone application for data collection and then wrote a Python program to convert the data to a robot operating system (ROS) bag. Next, we established two ROS nodes to calculate the RTK results and accomplish the integration. Finally, we conducted experiments in urban areas to assess the integration of RTK and VIO based on smartphones. The results demonstrate that the integration improves the accuracy and robustness of positioning and that our improved algorithm reduces altitude deviation. Our work can aid navigation and positioning research, which is the reason why we open source the majority of the codes at our GitHub. However, many indoor environments lack visually salient landmarks, which leads to difficulties in navigating in and learning complex and similar-looking indoor environments. In this study, we designed and implemented virtual semantic landmarks in Mixed Reality (MR)-based indoor environments and conducted a user study to explore whether such landmarks can assist spatial knowledge acquisition during navigation. More specifically, we employed the untethered, head-mounted mixed reality device Microsoft HoloLens and used iconic holograms to show the semantic landmarks. In the user study, we used sketch map, landmark locating tasks and interview to assess the results of the spatial knowledge acquisition and collect advice on improving the MR-based navigation interface. The results show that virtual semantic landmarks can assist the acquisition of corresponding knowledge, as such landmarks were labeled second most often in landmark locating task. In addition, individual cases show that head-mounted mixed reality devices may influence not only vision, but also height or time perception of certain users. Our result can be applied to facilitate the design of MR-based navigation interfaces and assist spatial knowledge acquisition.
