[Termes IGN] Normalized Difference Vegetation IndexRésumé : (Auteur) Building detection from remote sensed images is the main technique to monitor economic or environmental development of an area. Advanced Land Observing Satellite (alos) and SPOT data are reliable sources due to the limitation of weather, position, time, and other practical reasons. However, to the best of our knowledge, algorithms proposed in the identification of buildings mostly aim only at images with very high spatial resolution or high spectral resolution. There are few algorithms for detecting buildings from ALOS and SPOT data. A built-up detection index (BDI) is proposed in this paper to automatically identify buildings from images with 10 meters resolution. It synthesizes morphological theory and normalized differential vegetation index (NDVl) to enhance buildings by suppressing vegetation. Four images of ALOS and SPOT are used to verify the efficiency, stability and accuracy of BDI. Experiments show that BDI is suitable to detect buildings from 10 meters resolution with reliable accuracy. [Termes IGN] surveillance agricoleRésumé : (Auteur) The purpose of this study was to increase the spatial and temporal availability of crop classification data. In this study, nearly 16.2 million crop observation points were used in the training of the US Great Plains classification tree crop type model (CTM). Each observation point was further defined by weekly Normalized Difference Vegetation Index, annual climate, and a number of other biogeophysical environmental characteristics. This study accounted for the most prevalent crop types in the region, including, corn, soybeans, winter wheat, spring wheat, cotton, sorghum, and alfalfa. Annual CTM crop maps of the US Great Plains were created for 2000 to 2011 at a spatial resolution of 250 meters. The CTM achieved an 87 percent classification success rate on 1.8 million obser-vation points that were withheld from model training. Product validation was performed on greater than 15,000 county records with a coefficient of determination of R2 = 0.76. Regular monitoring of a large number of Himalayan glaciers is important for improving our knowledge of glacier response to climate change. In the present study, Survey of India topographical maps (1966) and Landsat datasets as ETM+ (2000, 2006) and TM (2011) have been used to study glacier fluctuations in Tirungkhad basin. A deglaciation of 26.1% (29.1 km2) in terms of area from 1966 to 2011 was observed. [Termes IGN] Viet NamRésumé : (Auteur) This paper shows the research of coastal morphological changes in Red river delta using Remote Sensing and GIS technique. Study was carried out to assess the intensity of erosion, deposition and sand bar movement in the study area. Satellite images of ALOS/AVNIR-2 and Landsat MSS, TM, ETM+ were used for the monitoring of coastal morphological changes over the period of 1975 to 2009. Band rationing and threshold technique was used for the coastline extraction. Tidal levels at the time of image acquisition varied from 1.47m to 2.72. Therefore, coastline from another image at a different tidal level in the same year was considered to get the corrected coastline by interpolation technique. A series of points were generated along the coastline from 1975 image and were established as reference points to see the change in later periods. The changes were measured in distances from these reference points to the other coastline. Positive values represented deposition to the sea and negative values are erosion. The research showed that maximum erosion was 23.77 m/y between 1975 and 1989 in GiaoThuy, Nam Dinh area.
Human activities, such as shrimp farming and mangrove cultivation have expanded land nearly 3.5 km in Red river mouth and 2.8 km in Thai Binh river mouth from 1975 to 2009. The sand bar movement of the deltas were characterized by their alternating location of coastline, rate of deposition and erosion. In the analysis, sand bars were converted into centerlines for calculation. It was found that the sand bars moved 186 in/year in Red river mouth and 195 m/year in Day river mouth. [Termes IGN] télédétection spatialeRésumé : (Auteur) Ancillary geodata can supply information to enhance classification accuracy for a variety of remote-sensing applications. To understand the integration of different data into a knowledge-based multisource classification process, this paper evaluates the significance of geodata for the classification accuracy of a very high spatial resolution satellite image for the identification of forest types in Germany. The approach utilizes a fuzzy-logic classifier for the integration of a knowledge base, which combines spectral information with ancillary data layers. The results of the classification were used to test a method for evaluating the influence of the integration of single geodata, the effects on different classes, and the impacts of the applied rules. A microarray significance analysis (MSA) was used to evaluate the significance of the classification results, whereas an ISODATA clustering was utilized for visualizing. A sequence of 50 accuracy assessments of classifications with possible combinations of geodata and rules for the identified classes was derived. The resulting microarray of accuracy percentages of single classes and the overall classification was used for further investigation. The MSA supplies the measure of significance, called relative difference d(i). The MSA identified 11 classifications of positive significance (d(i) greater than 1.44) and three classifications of negative significance (d(i) lower than -2.87). In particular, classifications that contain all rules were rated as positive significant.
