Note de contenu : 1) PRESENTATION DU PROJET

It discusses important developments in the Earth observation field, and includes substantial new material on application areas, the Envisat mission and new areas of technology such as the internet. The book opens with the basic techniques of satellite geocoding (including the use of GPS and mosaic production) before describing a wide range of algorithms for extraction of information from optical and radar satellite images. It then addresses the derivation of topographic information from space (including the recent shuttle Radar Topography Mission (SRTM) followed by an explanation of the added-value obtained through the integrated use of geocoded satellite data in a Geographic Information System (GIS). Practical commercial and scientific applications, such as agriculture, civil engineering, and the oceanographic, atmospheric and cryospheric worlds, are then described in detail. The book reviews recent developments in environmental monitoring and global security such as hazard and disaster monitoring, population dynamics and space missions dedicated to environmental monitoring (such as the Earth Observing System and the European Envisat Mission). Finally, the author draws together all the threads under the generic term of geomatics - addressing cuting-edge developments such as Very High Resolution Imagery (VHR) and the role that satellite data may play in the development of Location Bases Services for the third-generation telecom market. [Termes IGN] simulation d'imageRésumé : (Auteur) The paper deals with the modelling of landscapes for the simulation of very high spatial resolution images in the thermal infrared range, from 3 to 14 µm. It focuses on the influence of the 3-D effects on the simulation. The major relevant physical processes are described. Examples are made, comparing simulations obtained with 2-D and 3-D representation of the landscape. They help in classifying the relative influence of each process. The necessity to take into account a 3-D landscape respresentation for the simulation of very high spatial resolution images in the infrared range is also demonstrated. [Termes IGN] télédétection aérienneRésumé : (Auteur) We have investigated the problem of fire recognition and management assuming that the fire may produce noticeable effects in almost the entire optical spectral range (from the visible until the thermal infrared). Accordingly, we have chosen to exploit the application to the concerned problem of airborne, high resolution hyperspectral sensors that provide the user with a large amount of information about the spectral properties of the imaged target. The main problems addressed by this work are the firefront and burnedarea recognition and the extraction of information useful for the management of the burned area. The paper shows data gathered by the sensor MIVIS over the fire, the data processing result and is completed with a brief theoretical discussion of the involved topics. Some hints are given about the diagnostic capabilities of other hyperspectral devices.
