[Termes IGN] Triangulated Irregular NetworkRésumé : (Auteur) In this paper, a new method for the combination of 2D GIS vector data and 2.5D DTM represented by triangulated irregular networks (TIN) to derive integrated triangular 2.5D object-based landscape models (also known as 2.5D-GIS-TIN) is presented. The algorithm takes into account special geometric constellations and fully exploits existing topologies of both input data sets, it “sews the 2D data into the TIN like a sewing-machine” while traversing the latter along the 2D data. The new algorithm is called radial topology algorithm. We discuss its advantages and limitations, and describe ways to eliminate redundant nodes generated during the integration process. With the help of four examples from practical work we show that it is feasible to compute and work with such integrated data sets. We also discuss the integrated data models in the light of various general requirements and conclude that the integration based on triangulations has a number of distinct advantages. [Termes IGN] triangulation de DelaunayRésumé : (Auteur) The most commonly used topographic vector data, the reference data of national geographic information systems (GIS) are currently two-dimensional. The topography is modelled by different objects which are represented by single points, lines and areas with additional attributes containing information, for instance on the function and size of the object. In contrast, a digital terrain model (DTM) in most cases is a 2.5D representation of the earth's surface. The integration of the two data sets leads to an augmentation of the dimension of the topographic objects. However, due to inconsistencies between the data the integration process may lead to semantically incorrect results. This paper presents a new approach for the integration of a DTM and 2D GIS vector data including the re-establishment of the semantic correctness of the integrated data set. The algorithm consists of two steps. In the first step the DTM and the topographic objects are integrated without considering the semantics of the objects. This geometric integration is based on a DTM TIN (triangular irregular network) computed using a constrained Delaunay triangulation. In the second step those objects which contain implicit height information are further utilized: object representations are formulated and the semantics of the objects are considered within an optimization process using equality and inequality constraints. The algorithm is based on an inequality constrained least squares adjustment formulated as the linear complementary problem (LCP). The algorithm results in an integrated semantically correct 2.5D GIS data set. Results are presented using simulated and real data. Lakes represented by horizontal planes with increasing terrain outside the lake and roads which are composed of several tilted planes were investigated. The algorithm shows satisfying results: the constraints are fulfilled and the visualization of the integrated data set corresponds to the human view of the topography. [Termes IGN] végétationRésumé : (Auteur) An accuracy assessment of two lidar-derived elevation datasets was conducted in areas of rugged terrain (average slope 26.6°). Data from 906 ground checkpoints in various land-cover types were collected in situ as reference points. Analysis of the accuracy of lidar-derived elevation as a function of several factors including terrain slope, terrain aspect, and land-cover types was conducted. This paper attempts to characterize vegetation information derived from lidar data based on variables such as canopy volume, local roughness of point clouds, point spacing of lidar ground returns, and vegetation angle. This information was used to evaluate the accuracy of elevation as a function of vegetation type. The experimental results revealed that the accuracy of elevation was considerably correlated with five factors: terrain slope, vegetation angle, canopy volume, local roughness of point clouds, and point spacing of lidar ground returns. The results show a linear relationship between the elevation accuracy and the combination of vegetation angle and the point spacing of ground returns (r2 > 0.9). The combination of vegetation angle and point spacing of ground returns explains a significant amount of the variability in elevation accuracy. Elevation accuracy varied with different vegetation types. The elevation accuracy was also linearly correlated with the product of the point spacing of ground returns and the tangent of the slope (r2 = 0.9). A greater product value implies a greater elevation error. In addition, with regard to terrain aspect, one dense dataset with extra cross-flight data revealed a lesser impact of aspect on elevation accuracy. [Termes IGN] Triangulated Irregular NetworkRésumé : (Auteur) Sensor networks are unattended deeply distributed systems whose database schema can be conceptualized using the relational model. Aggregation queries on the data sampled at each sensor node are the main means to extract the abstract characteristics of the surrounding environment. However, the non-uniform distribution of the sensor nodes in the environment leads to inaccurate results generated by the aggregation queries. In this paper, we introduce "spatial aggregations" that take into consideration the spatial location of each measurement generated by the sensor nodes. We propose the use of spatial interpolation methods derived from the fields of spatial statistics and computational geometry to answer spatial aggregations. In particular, we study Spatial Moving Average (SMA), Voronoi Diagram and Triangulated Irregular Network (TIN). Investigating these methods for answering spatial average queries, we show that the average value on the data samples weighted by the area of the Voronoi cell of the corresponding sensor node, provides the best precision. Consequently, we introduce an algorithm to compute and maintain the accurate Voronoi cell at each sensor node while the location of the others arrive on data stream. We also propose AVC-SW, a novel algorithm to approximate this Voronoi cell over a sliding window that supports dynamism in the sensor network. To demonstrate the performance of in-network implementation of our aggregation operators, we have developed prototypes of two different approaches to distributed spatial aggregate processing.
