What ar mass points and breaklines ? How can I use DEMS to solve my problems ? How can I get DEMs and what's already available ? How are DEM's produced from photogrammetry ? IFSAR ? Lidar ? Sonar ? What are the capabilities and limitations of these technologies for producing DEMs ? What technology is best for me ? How do I check the quality of a DEM ? How do I know what to ask for ? How much do DEMs cost ? If you have these questions, and more, this manual is for you. This DEM Users Manual is designed to help potential users of digital elevation data understand and articulate their requirements in a way that their expectations are satisfied or ex-ceeded. A dense DSM obtained by a merge of all elementary stereopair DSM is first generated. The scene is then splitted in focusing areas using a combined analysis of the image and DSM contents so that each mono-thematic area can be modelled and reconstructed in a different way. The general surface reconstruction approach is based on a concept of multi-image matching guided from object space. Reliable and well located 3D point features are provided by a multi-image template matcher. Reliable 3D line segments within building areas are provided by a multi-image contour matcher. The building and scene surfaces are modelled under TIN form and obtained by a Delaunay triangulation of all 3D point features constrained by the 3D line segments. [Termes IGN] visualisationRésumé : (Editeur) This tutorial survey brings together two lines of research and development whose interaction promises to have significant practical impact on the area of spatial information processing in the near future: geographic information systems (GIS) and geometric computation or, more particularly, geometric algorithms and spatial data structures. In nine uniformly structured and coherent chapters, the authors present a unique survey ranging from the history and basic characteristics to current issues of precision and robustness of geometric computing. This textbook is ideally suited for advanced courses on GIS and applied geometric algorithms. Research and design professionals active in the area will find it valuable as a state-of-the-art.
