[Termes IGN] valeur radiométriqueRésumé : (Auteur) The Cartographic Institute of Catalonia (ICC) has acquired a DMC digital camera and has performed some first investigations regarding radiometric performance and geometric accuracy potential. In this cooperation with the Institute of Geodesy and Photogrammetry (IGP), ETH Zurich various aspects are analysed. The investigations make use of recent test flights near Tortosa, a plane region with varying landcover. For the quantitative analysis of the DMC results, a ground control points and lidar data exist, which have been simultaneously acquired with the DMC images. The first part of the investigations focusses on geometric sensor modeling and aerial triangulation. Preliminary results of ICC have shown that when standard additional parameters, like the 12 Ebner parameters, are used in AT, significant systematic errors remain and each of the 4 subimages that form the virtual panchromatic image has a different pattern of image deformations. In these investigations, we do not perform analysis of additional parameters in order to model these deformations, as this has been done in another ICC work. The results are analysed using GCPs established in the above mentioned testfield, using two different bundle adjustment programs.. Another part of our investigations regarding AT deals with automatic point transfer using a high quality multi-image, multi-primitive matching method developed at IGP, initially for automatic DSM generation. Different aspects like number, distribution and accuracy of the tie points are analysed, as well number of rays per tie point. The second part of the paper focuses on automatic DSM generation. Although digital cameras offer characteristics, like better image quality, that could be used favourably in automated DSM generation, almost all commercial systems employ matching methods with limitations, like no support of multi-image matching. In these investigations, we briefly introduce the above mentioned IGP multi-image matching and present the matching results. Initial results with other digital cameras and images with large forward and side overlap have shown that this matching approach can produce DSMs at least as dense as those produced by airborne laser scanning and almost as accurate, preserving also very well surface discontinuities. The processing and DSM control was performed by IGP using lidar data provided by ICC, while ICC made an independent control of the aerial triangulation using the software programs at ICC. [Termes IGN] test de performanceRésumé : (Auteur) This paper presents the main results of a comprehensive ADS40 performance analysis conducted at the Vaihingen/Enz test field. As such it represents one example of an independent in-flight performance study for one of the new and commercially operational digital airborne camera systems. Based on a large number of well coordinated and defined object points, which served as independent check points, the absolute geometric accuracy of the ADS40 from true operational data has been verified. Empirical analysis of data from flying heights ranging from 1500 m to 4000 m proved the ADS40 geometric accuracy to be in the range of 1–2 um at image scale for horizontal coordinates and 0.03–0.05 of the flying height for vertical components. This is fully within specification for airborne imaging. [Termes IGN] test de performanceRésumé : (Auteur) In this paper the calibration of Optech ALTM 3100 laser scanner intensity is reported using airborne experiments and known brightness targets. The Finnish Geodetic Institute has had a permanent photogrammetric test field in Sjokulla Kirkkonummi since 1994. This test field contains permanent and transportable test targets for radiometric calibration, permanent ground control points for small, medium and large-scale geometric calibration and also test bar targets for spatial analysis of analogue and digital aerial cameras. Since 2000 LiDAR testing has also been carried out, the latest being Optech ALTM 3100 campaign in 12-14 July 2005. Eight portable brightness targets with nominal reflectance of 5 %, 10 %, 20 %, 25 %, 30 %, 45 %, 50 % and 70 % were in use for LiDAR testing. Flying heights were about 200, 1000 and 3000 m above ground level. Intensity values need to be corrected with respect to range, incidence angle (both BRDF and range correction), atmospheric transmittance, attenuation using dark object addition and transmitted power (because difference in PRF will lead to different transmitter power values). After these corrections, the intensity values were directly relative to target reflectance. Flight heights of 200 m and 1000 m are suitable for intensity calibration using artificial test targets due to the practical aspects of the calibration (size of the calibrator). With the 3000 m altitude signals with reflectance of less or equal of 10% could not be recorded most probably due to insufficient signal-to-noise ratio. Thus, the test target reflectance should exceed 10% to give a reliable distance measurement from 3000 m altitude. [Termes IGN] test de performanceRésumé : (Auteur) Over the last decade the number of airborne lidar systems currently deployed and operating in the field has grown impressively. This growth has intensified the level of competition among lidar equipment manufacturers. As manufacturers vie for increased market share with claims of ever higher accuracy specifications, lidar end users wonder how these specifications actually affect achievable accuracy of the lidar data. Aware of the interest that professional organizations such as ISPRS/ASPRS have shown in establishing quality control guidelines for reporting accuracy in lidar data, Optech Incorporated, a leading manufacturer of airborne lidar equipment, conducted a series of studies that examined issues that included, among others, vertical accuracy and Position and Orientation System (POS) performance. Since accuracy specifications can be the product of different testing methodologies and subject to the interpretation of data, the final arbiter of competing claims is actual system performance. The studies that Optech carried out included performance analyses of the ALTM 31OOEA laser mapping system. This instrument demonstrated that it is capable of producing mapping data with relative accuracies on the sub-decimeter level. However, the limiting factors in obtaining overall absolute sub-decimeter accuracies are often due to the performance of various subsystems that contribute to the total ALTM error budget. This paper represents the manufacturer's effort to relate the engineering analysis of instrument performance to what is demonstrably achievable accuracy in the lidar data of end users. [Termes IGN] test de performanceRésumé : (Auteur) This paper compares different classification performance metrics commonly used for environmental monitoring with remotely sensed satellite data and their associated error bounds. Discriminant functions were generated for three classifiers using common training data. Identical independant test data were classified by each discriminant function. The classified test values were evaluated by each performance metric. Each perfomance measure, its error bound, and its significance were computed. The performance measures were divided into three classes : those measures associated with contingency matrices, casewise comparisons, and ROC curves. The operation, results, and limitations of each metric are discussed.
