[Termes IGN] zone urbaineRésumé : (auteur) Digital Terrain Models (DTMs) are essential surveying products for terrain based analyses, especially for overland flow modelling. Nowadays, many high resolution DTM products are generated by Airborne Laser Scanning (ALS). However, DTMs with even higher resolution are of great interest for a more precise overland flow modelling in urban areas. With the help of mobile mapping techniques, we can obtain much denser measurements of the ground in the vicinity of roads. In this research, a study area in Hannover, Germany was measured by a mobile mapping system. Point clouds from 485 scan strips were aligned and a DTM was extracted. In order to achieve a product with completeness, this mobile mapping produced DTM was then merged and adapted with a DTM product with 0.5 m resolution from a mapping agency. Systematic evaluations have been conducted with respect to the height accuracy of the DTM products. The results show that the final DTM product achieved a higher resolution (0.1 m) near the roads while essentially maintaining its height accuracy. [Termes IGN] zone urbaineRésumé : (Auteur) Many applications dedicated to urban areas (e.g. land cover mapping and biophysical properties estimation) using high spatial resolution remote sensing images require the use of 3D atmospheric correction methods, able to model complex light interactions within urban topography such as buildings and trees. Currently, one major drawback of these methods is their lack in modeling the radiative signature of trees (e.g. the light transmitted through the tree crown), which leads to an over-estimation of ground reflectance at tree shadows. No study has been carried out to take into account both optical and structural properties of trees in the correction provided by these methods. The aim of this work is to improve an existing 3D atmospheric correction method, ICARE (Inversion Code for urban Areas Reflectance Extraction), to account for trees in its new version, ICARE-VEG (ICARE with VEGetation). After the execution of ICARE, the methodology of ICARE-VEG consists in tree crown delineation and tree shadow detection, and then the application of a physics-based correction factor in order to perform a tree-specific local correction for each pixel in tree shadow. A sensitivity analysis with a design of experiments performed with a 3D canopy radiative transfer code, DART (Discrete Anisotropic Radiative Transfer), results in fixing the two most critical variables contributing to the impact of an isolated tree crown on the radiative energy budget at tree shadow: the solar zenith angle and the tree leaf area index (LAI). Thus, the approach to determine the correction factor relies on an empirical statistical regression and the addition of a geometric scaling factor to account for the tree crown occultation from ground. ICARE-VEG and ICARE performance were compared and validated in the Visible-Near Infrared Region (V-NIR: 0.4–1.0 µm) with hyperspectral airborne data at 0.8 m resolution on three ground materials types, grass, asphalt and water. Results show that (i) ICARE-VEG improves the mean absolute error in retrieved reflectances compared to ICARE in tree shadows by a multiplicative factor ranging between 4.2 and 18.8, and (ii) reduces the spectral bias in reflectance from visible to NIR (due to light transmission through the tree crown) by a multiplicative factor between 1.0 and 1.4 in terms of spectral angle mapper performance. ICARE-VEG opens the way to a complete interpretation of remote sensing images (sunlit, shade cast by both buildings and trees) and the derivation of scientific value-added products over all the entire image without the preliminary step of shadow masking. [Termes IGN] zone urbaineRésumé : (Auteur) Identifying ash trees from other common deciduous trees is challenging due to subtle spectral differences of foliage among species. Although many researchers have integrated lidar-derived tree height and crown size metrics to improve tree species classification accuracy, these simple biophysical attributes provide inadequate explanatory power in distinguishing ash trees (Fraxinus, spp.) in urban ecosystems. To address this issue, shape-related features, including crown shape index (SI) and coefficient of variation (CV) of crown height, were extracted from lidar data, and fused with treetopbased spectra for ash tree species identification in Milwaukee City, Wisconsin, United States. Analysis results indicate shape features including SI and CV play a big role in improving the accuracy for ash tree identification. Specifically, Fusion of CV and treetop-based spectra improved the overall accuracy from 81.9 percent to 89 percent, and McNemar tests indicated the differences in accuracy between CV fusion and tree height fusion was statistically significant (p = 0.016). [Termes IGN] zone urbaineRésumé : (Auteur) Mobile Mapping (MM) solutions have become a significant extension to traditional data acquisition methods over the last years. Independently from the sensor carried by a platform, may it be laser scanners or cameras, high-resolution data postings are opposing a poor absolute localisation accuracy in urban areas due to GNSS occlusions and multipath effects. Potentially inaccurate position estimations are propagated by IMUs which are furthermore prone to drift effects. Thus, reliable and accurate absolute positioning on a par with MM's high-quality data remains an open issue. Multiple and diverse approaches have shown promising potential to mitigate GNSS errors in urban areas, but cannot achieve decimetre accuracy, require manual effort, or have limitations with respect to costs and avail-ability. This paper presents a fully automatic approach to support the correction of MM imaging data based on correspondences with airborne nadir images. These correspondences can be employed to correct the MM plat-form's orientation by an adjustment solution. Unlike MM as such, aerial images do not suffer from GNSS oc-clusions, and their accuracy is usually verified by employing well-established methods using ground control points. However, a registration between MM and aerial images is a non-standard matching scenario, and requires several strategies to yield reliable and accurate correspondences. Scale, perspective and content strongly vary between both image sources, thus traditional feature matching methods may fail. To this end, the registration process is designed to focus on common and clearly distinguishable elements, such as road markings, manholes, or kerbstones. With a registration accuracy of about 98%, reliable tie information between MM and aerial data can be derived. Even though, the adjustment strategy is not covered in its entirety in this paper, accuracy results after adjustment will be presented. It will be shown that a decimetre accuracy is well achievable in a real data test scenari Numéro de notice : A2018-285 Affiliation des auteurs : non IGN Thématique : IMAGERIE Nature : Article nature-HAL : ArtAvecCL-RevueIntern DOI : 10.1016/j.isprsjprs.2018.04.017 Date de publication en ligne : 30/04/2018 En ligne : https://doi.org/10.1016/j.isprsjprs.2018.04.017 Format de la ressource électronique : URL article Permalink : https://documentation.ensg.eu/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=90397

[Termes IGN] zone urbaineRésumé : (Auteur) Aerial or satellite images are conventionally used for geospatial data collection. However, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) are emerging as a suitable technology for providing very high spatial and temporal resolution data at a low cost. This paper aims to show the potential of using UAVs for map creation and updating. The whole workflow is introduced in the paper, using a case study in Rwanda, where 954 images were collected with a DJI Phantom 2 Vision Plus quadcopter. An orthophoto covering 0.095 km2 with a spatial resolution of 3.3 cm was produced and used to extract features with a sub-decimetre accuracy. Quantitative and qualitative control of the UAV data products were performed, indicating that the obtained accuracies comply to international standards. Moreover, possible problems and further perspectives were also discussed. The results demonstrate that UAVs provide promising opportunities to create high-resolution and highly accurate orthophotos, thus facilitating map creation and updating.
