[Termes IGN] zone urbaineRésumé : (auteur) Research in the area of 3D city modelling from remote sensed data greatly developed in recent years with an emphasis on systems dealing with the detection and representation of man-made objects, such as buildings and streets. While these systems produce accurate representations of urban environments, they ignore information about the vegetation component of a city. This paper presents a complete image analysis system which, from high-resolution color infrared (CIR) digital images, and a Digital Surface Model (DSM), extracts, segments and classifies vegetation in high density urban areas, with very high reliability. The process starts with the extraction of all vegetation areas using a supervised classification system based on a Support Vector Machines (SVM) classifier. The result of this first step is further on used to separate trees from lawns using texture criteria computed on the DSM. Tree crown borders are identified through a robust region growing algorithm based on tree-shape criteria. A SVM classifier gives the species class for each tree region previously identified. This classification is used to enhance the appearance of 3D city models by a realistic representation of vegetation according to the vegetation land use, shape and tree species. [Termes IGN] zone urbaine denseRésumé : (Auteur) The natural trend of megacities is to expand from their centers to outlying areas in order to accommodate rapid population growth. Urban areas situated near steep, mountainous terrain or water sources may suffer from landslides, which are one of the most common natural disasters. This paper outlines a new approach in which airborne laser altimetry is used to automatically identify and model landslide occurrences within the acquired data. Dense and accurate light detection and ranging (LiDAR) topographic observations are modeled and compared to an existing digital elevation model (DEM) of the area acquired at an earlier stage. The standard direct superimposition comparison mechanism, which ignores the datasets' inherent interrelations, usually results in an incorrect modeling outcome. A new modeling concept is proposed that initially monitors the inherent global incongruities by georeferencing the two datasets. These incongruities are then utilized in a novel geospatial matching procedure that makes it possible to achieve a precise and correct local modeling mechanism. The hierarchical comparison concept presented accurate results in automatic identification of landslide phenomena, making it possible to precisely assess their morphology. [Termes IGN] zone urbaineRésumé : (Auteur) The purpose of this paper is to propose a new notion on prominent areas of a city defined by two types of comprehensive prominence for identifying urban spatial structure. Not only geometric attributes and topological attributes but also thematic attributes of irregular areas (e.g. districts of a city) are used to define these indices. In the paper, first the topological prominence related to geometric attributes such as size, location, and shape of areas is constructed by spatial weight matrix. Second, for finding comprehensive prominences, the principle axis factor model is adopted, and the first factor score is defined as the comprehensive prominence 1. Then, the proportion of thematic attributes of each area occupied in across the city is used to define the comprehensive prominence 2. Finally, we use these comprehensive prominences to extract some important regions in Matsudo City of Chiba Prefecture in Japan. The areas composing those regions show a high topological prominence, have a large population, have many offices, and are located around the train station. [Termes IGN] zone urbaineRésumé : (Auteur) The geographical distribution of a flash flood's occurrence could be an important consideration in assessing its severity and social impacts. In this study, the spatial distribution of survey responses is analysed with respect to features such as the stream network (natural water path), the drainage network, buildings, and catchments. This provides information on both flash flood distribution causes in an urban setting and residents' perceptions of the hazard that would otherwise not be revealed. The study demonstrated the possibility of taking into account people's experience in detecting the location of potential flash flood hazards. It also illustrates the usefulness of GIS-supported spatial analysis of survey results in identifying factors that increase the occurrence of urban flash floods. [Termes IGN] zone urbaineRésumé : (Auteur) Automated or semi-automated feature extraction from remotely collected, large scale image data has been a challenging issue in digital photogrammetry for many years. In the feature extraction field, fusing different types of data to provide complementary information about the objects is becoming increasingly important. In this paper, we present a newly developed approach for the automatic extraction of urban area road networks from a true orthoimage and lidar assuming the road network to be a semi-grid pattern. The proposed approach starts from the subdivision of a study area into small regions based on homogeneity of the dominant road directions from the true orthoimage. Each region’s road candidates are selected with a proposed free passage measure. This process is called the “acupuncture” method. Features around the road candidates are used as key factors for an advanced “acupuncture method” called the region-based acupuncture method. Extracted road candidates are edited to avoid collocation with non-road features such as buildings and grass fields. In order to produce a building map for the prior step, a first-last return analysis and morphological filter are used with the lidar point cloud. A grass area thematic map is generated by supervised classification techniques from a synthetic image, which contains the three color bands from the true orthoimage and the lidar intensity value. Those non-road feature maps are used as a blocking mask for the roads. The accuracy of the result is evaluated quantitatively with respect to manually compiled road vectors, and a completeness of 80 percent and a correctness of 79 percent are obtained with the proposed algorithm on an area of 1,081,600 square meters.
