[Termes IGN] zone urbaineRésumé : (Auteur) In this paper, the registration of decimeter-resolution airborne multi-aspect SAR (MASAR) data of inner city areas by application of the radargrammetric range-Doppler equations is investigated. The geometrical model is adapted to linear flight trajectories and zero-Doppler processed SAR data, whereas the observed trajectory parameters are adjusted using a strict Gauss–Helmert model and known ground control points. The significance of the estimated corrections is examined and the most suitable set of free parameters is determined. Finally, the methodology is applied to real test data of an airborne campaign over the city of Munich, Germany, and the feasability of the proposed radargrammetric registration method is shown. [Termes IGN] zone urbaineRésumé : (Auteur) Urban impervious surface information is essential for urban and environmental applications at the regional/national scales. As a popular image processing technique, spectral mixture analysis (SMA) has rarely been applied to coarse-resolution imagery due to the difficulty of deriving endmember spectra using traditional endmember selection methods, particularly within heterogeneous urban environments. To address this problem, we derived endmember signatures through a least squares solution (LSS) technique with known abundances of sample pixels, and integrated these endmember signatures into SMA for mapping large-scale impervious surface fraction. In addition, with the same sample set, we carried out objective comparative analyses among SMA (i.e. fully constrained and unconstrained SMA) and machine learning (i.e. Cubist regression tree and Random Forests) techniques. Analysis of results suggests three major conclusions. First, with the extrapolated endmember spectra from stratified random training samples, the SMA approaches performed relatively well, as indicated by small MAE values. Second, Random Forests yields more reliable results than Cubist regression tree, and its accuracy is improved with increased sample sizes. Finally, comparative analyses suggest a tentative guide for selecting an optimal approach for large-scale fractional imperviousness estimation: unconstrained SMA might be a favorable option with a small number of samples, while Random Forests might be preferred if a large number of samples are available. [Termes IGN] zone urbaineRésumé : (Auteur) The advance in remote sensing technology makes people easily assess urban growth. In this study, a multiple endmember spectral mixture analysis (MESMA) was examined in a sub-pixel analysis of Landsat Thematic Mapper (TM) imagery to map three physical components of urban land cover (LC): impervious surface, vegetation and soil, and compared with a traditional spectral mixture analysis (SMA) in mapping the physical components. A comparative analysis of the impervious surface areas (ISA) mapped with MESMA and SMA indicates that MESMA produced more accurately results of mapping urban physical components than those by SMA. With the multiyear Landsat TM data, we quantified sub-pixel percentage of ISA and the percentage of ISA changes to assess urban growth in Tampa, FL during the past 20 years. The experimental results demonstrate that MESMA approach is effective in mapping and monitoring urban land use/LC changes using moderate-resolution multispectral imagery at a sub-pixel level. [Termes IGN] zone urbaine denseRésumé : (auteur) Thanks to the development of Mobile mapping systems (MMS), street object recognition, classification, modelling and related studies have become hot topics recently. There has been increasing interest in detecting changes between mobile laser scanning (MLS) point clouds in complex urban areas. A method based on the consistency between the occupancies of space computed from different datasets is proposed. First occupancy of scan rays (empty, occupied, unknown) are defined while considering the accuracy of measurement and registration. Then the occupancy of scan rays are fused using the Weighted Dempster–Shafer theory (WDST). Finally, the consistency between different datasets is obtained by comparing the occupancy at points from one dataset with the fused occupancy of neighbouring rays from the other dataset. Change detection results are compared with a conventional point to triangle (PTT) distance method. Changes at point level are detected fully automatically. The proposed approach allows to detect changes at large scales in urban scenes with fine detail and more importantly, distinguish real changes from occlusions.
