[Termes IGN] zone urbaineRésumé : (auteur) Studies on urban–rural fringes, which represent regions facing various urbanization problems caused by rapid expansion, have steadily increased in recent years. However, problems persist in the quantitative delimitation of such regions. Based on the characteristics of abrupt urbanization-level changes in urban–rural fringe areas, we propose a constraint-based method in this study to detect the urban–rural fringes of cities with a spatial polycentric structure of ‘Main center–Subcenter’ based on data from multiple sources. We used the proposed approach to delimitate the fringe areas of Jiangyin and Zhangjiagang and identify their urban main center and subcenter pre-defined by their city master plans, towns, and rural hinterlands. Comparison of the identified results of different single urbanization indices, a single detection center, kernel density estimation, and a single constraint revealed that the patch density and Shannon’s diversity index of the proposed method were higher in urban–rural fringes and smaller in city centers and rural hinterlands. This suggests that the landscape of urban–rural fringes delimitated by the proposed method is more fragmented, diverse, and complicated, thereby performing better. This study is significant for future urban spatial analysis, planning, and management. [Termes IGN] zone urbaineRésumé : (auteur) Linear spectral mixture analysis (LSMA) and regression analysis are the two most conventionally used methods to estimate impervious surfaces at the subpixel scale in an urban area. However, LSMA lacks the sensitivity to pixel brightness, which leads to inter variability of endmembers and affects the ability to distinguish features with a similar spectral signature. This research aims to develop LSMA aided by a regression analysis model to estimate impervious surfaces with higher accuracy. A spectral angle mapping (SAM) based regression analysis model is introduced to reduce errors. Based on high-resolution images and field survey data, the SAM-based regression analysis can estimate non-impervious surface and high-impervious surface densities with high accuracy, while less accurate in impervious surfaces with low/medium density. In contrast, LSMA is able to estimate low/medium-density impervious surfaces with higher accuracy. We propose an improved approach by integrating the two methods, regression analysis aided LSMA, for impervious surface estimation. The proposed method increases the overall accuracy of the impervious surface estimation to 85.24%, which is significantly greater than that of the conventional methods. The main limitations are encountered in the urban canyons, consisting in a reduced satellite signal availability and a positioning estimation error due to the impact of Line-of-Sight and Non Line-of-Sight multipath phenomenon. This PhD study allows to understand the impact of the multipath phenomenon on the low-cost GNSS receivers and to prove the need of accurate assessment of the multipath error model affecting the GNSS measurements, especially in urban environment. It consists in the investigation, characterization, and finally, exploitation of the multipath error components affecting the pseudorange and pseudorange-rate measurements, of a single frequency, dual constellation GNSS receiver in the urban environment, operating with GPS L1 C/A and Galileo E1 OS signals. The first goal consists in providing a set of methodologies able to identify, isolate and characterize the multipath error components from the measurements under test. However, considering that the isolation of the multipath error is a complex operation due to the superimposed effects of multipath and thermal noise, the final method consists of isolating the joint contribution of multipath and thermal noise components. The isolated multipath and thermal noise error components are firstly classified depending the corresponding received signal /0 values, and, secondly, statistically characterized by means of Probability Density Function, sample mean and sample variance. Also, the temporal and spatial correlation properties of the isolated error components are calculated by means of a methodology which estimates the temporal correlations as a function of the receiver speed. In addition, an image processing methodology based on the application of a sky-facing fish-eye camera provides the determination of an empirical /0 threshold equal to 35 dB-Hz used to qualitatively identify the Non Line- Of-Sight and Line-Of-Sight received signal reception states. The resulting errors are characterized by a nonsymmetrical, positive biased PDF for a /0 lower than 35 dBHz, while they are characterized by a symmetrical and zero-centred PDF for a /0 higher than 35 dB-Hz. Correlation times for pseudoranges are ranged from around 5s for static and very low speed dynamics to around 1s for high-speed dynamics. Correlation times for pseudorange-rates ranged from around 0.5s for static and very low speed dynamics to around 0.2s for high-speed dynamics, due to the data-rate limitations. The second goal consists in exploiting the multipath and thermal noise error models and the LOS/NLOS received signal reception state estimation in a low-complex EKF-based architecture to improve the accuracy of the PVT estimates. This is obtained by implementing some techniques based on the measurement weighting approach to take into account the statistical properties of the error under exam and by the application of a time differenced architecture design to exploit the temporal correlation properties. Positioning performance of the tested solutions surpassed the performances of a simple EKF architecture and are comparable to the performances of a uBlox M8T receiver. [Termes IGN] zone urbaineRésumé : (auteur) As the number of bicyclists in urban areas continues to increase, the need to realistically model the movement and interactions of bicyclists in mixed urban traffic is rapidly gaining importance. Therefore, this paper presents an agent space model (ASM) to elucidate the movements of bicyclists and pedestrians on shared roads. The ASM model, via simulation, particularly illustrates the dispersion phenomenon observed for non-motorized road users. The mutual interactions and diverse bicyclist and pedestrian properties were also incorporated into this model. The mutual interactions were realised through agent spaces of different sizes in conflict and overtaking behaviours for the following combinations: bicyclist-to-pedestrian, bicyclist-to-bicyclist, pedestrian-to-bicyclist, and pedestrian-to-pedestrian, which were obtained through experiments. The hypothesis test indicated that different agent spaces exist for different types of interactions. The experimental data were used to obtain several variables that describe the elements of road user agent spaces, including longitudinal and lateral distances and the dynamic relationship between the longitudinal distance and speed. The simulation results indicated that with an increase in the number of pedestrians, the maximum capacity decreased and the dispersion degree increased. The following psychological and physiological factors affect the degree of dispersion of bicyclists: travelling speed, reaction time, intensity, probability of selecting the head-on direction, and probability of selecting the right-hand direction. In addition, lane formation was observed in all simulations. The results also demonstrated that dedicated bicycle lanes will significantly reduce the dispersion degree. Moreover, the safety and efficiency effects of different forms of bicycle lanes were analysed from the perspective of the degree of dispersion. The simulation results can provide specific guidelines for understanding the causes of phenomena such as dispersion and lane formation, as well as for studying the traffic dynamics, effects of dedicated bicycle lanes, and macroscopic characteristics according to different bicyclist-pedestrian ratios. [Termes IGN] zone urbaineRésumé : (auteur) Sketch mapping provides an intuitive means for collecting respondents’ impressions about space and place alongside qualitative data collection approaches. However, the data collected are often challenging to work with, particularly by digitization and visualization. After reviewing these challenges, this article introduces a “semi-structured” approach to sketch map data collection, digitization, and analysis and an open-source software package, “qualmap,” that implements tools for digitizing these data in the programming language R. This approach retains the cartographically accurate base maps used in other sketch map research. However, it superimposes an areal unit of the researchers’ choice to aid in digitization and analysis. The use of a standard areal unit creates additional cartographic and analytic possibilities. The applicability of this approach is illustrated with a sample project that analyzes perceptions of space collected from a convenience sample of college students. The resulting maps’ clustering identifies a “bubble” around their campus that captures much of the travel activity students engage in every week. These data are paired with crime data, which illustrates possible mixed methods extensions of this “semi-structured” approach to sketch mapping.
