[Termes IGN] zone urbaineRésumé : (Auteur) A meaningful hydrological network is critical to spatial analysis and modelling. 'Meaningful' in that it is topologically correct, provides a basis for modelling flow and differentiates between different types of water features. In Great Britain, large-scale digital mapping of hydrological features was captured from paper maps and had a cartographic emphasis that had poor attribution, and no underlying model that supported geographical modelling. This emphasis gave rise to rivers and lakes that were variously 'broken' into sections by features such as dams, bridges, and culverts. This paper reports on research to create automatically a topologically connected hydrological network that underpins the detailed cartographic representation of such features. The network was created by joining these hydrographic features together according to rules of both continuity and proximity between river sections, and their flow direction (using an underlying digital elevation model). Confidence values were associated with each section link reflecting the certainty of that connection. The confidence values provided a basis for directing human intervention to uncertain connections as part of the final editing process. The project took as its input OS MasterMap 'water feature' data. A skeletonisation process was used to create the medial axis of the network. The paper reports in detail the methodology, the implementation and evaluation. The algorithm worked well in rural areas where interruptions are small and there is greater variation in height. In urban areas the challenges were greater where typically relatively long sections of river may be re-engineered and culverted, and where the fidelity of the digital elevation model was insufficient to discern the subtle changes in elevation. [Termes IGN] zone urbaineRésumé : (Auteur) In this study, a variogram-based texture analysis was tested for classifying detailed urban land-use classes, such as mobile home, single-family house, multi-family house, industrial, and commercial from a digital color infrared aerial photograph. Spectral classification was first carried out to separate the building class from non-building classes. Then, a building-presence binary image was generated so that building pixels were assigned a value of "1 " and non-building pixels were assigned a value of "0. " Multiple texture bands were further generated employing a variogram-based texture analysis and used for land-use classification. The generation of the building presence binary image allowed us not only to fully explore the capability of variogram-based analysis on spatial pattern detection, but also to prevent the variogram-based analysis from being disturbed by the natural fluctuation of spectral signals. The result from using a mosaic test image was considered satisfactory with a kappa coefficient of 0.72. [Termes IGN] zone urbaineRésumé : (Auteur) This paper examines the subpixel analysis of Landsat ETM+ data to estimate the percent cover of impervious surface, lawn, and woody tree cover in typical urban/suburban land-scapes. By combining Self-Organizing Map (SOM), Learning Vector Quantization (LVQ), and Gaussian Mixture Model (GMM) methods, the posterior probability of the various land cover components were estimated for each pixel as a means of sub-pixel analysis. The estimation of impervious surface and the differentiation of urban vegetation grass versus woody tree coverage the main objectives of this paper. Overall, the output estimates compared favorably with those obtained using higher spatial resolution aerial photograph and IKONOS satellite image and traditional hard classification techniques as independent reference. The SOM-LVQ-GMM mode! showed a moderate degree of similarity in the estimates of impervious surface [root mean-square errors (RMSEs) of Numéro de notice : A2006-261 Affiliation des auteurs : non IGN Thématique : IMAGERIE Nature : Article nature-HAL : ArtAvecCL-RevueIntern DOI : 10.1109/TGRS.2006.869984 En ligne : https://doi.org/10.1109/TGRS.2006.869984 Format de la ressource électronique : URL article Permalink : https://documentation.ensg.eu/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=27988

[Termes IGN] zone urbaineRésumé : (Auteur) The generation of digital elevation models (DEMs) by space-born InSAR is a well-established remote sensing technique. Several application projects as for instance the shuttle radar topography mission (SRTM) have proven the outstanding capability to map the Earth's surface globally with great accuracy and constant resolution applying this technique. The short mission time of only eleven days guaranteed the homogenous quality of the generated DEM. The typical InSAR-DEM provides a snapshot of the terrain elevation at the time of acquisition including the vegetation cover. A limitation is that the Earth's cover is mapped only down to a mean radar penetration depth. Polarimetry can be applied to separate volume scattering from the double bounce effect on the ground in forested areas. But in urban areas this scattering model can not be applied. This is in contrast to the great interest in urban areas caused by the high population density and change. Nowadays, the permanent scatterer interferometry which has been invented at POLIMI is working operational and can provide supplementing information. It allows a monitoring of urban areas over time spans of more than ten years. E.g. the subsidence in such spots can be detected and monitored with millimetre accuracy. The separation of the orbit, atmosphere and topography phase effects form the basis for the extreme accuracy regarding the displacement measurement. Furthermore, the PS estimation results in a high precision DEM update at the PS position. The structure of the cities and the radar observation geometry are the reason that this simple elevation concept needs to be extended. It is very likely that more than one dominant scatterer is inside a resolution cell. Tomography can resolve this ambiguity and provides the reflectivity along cross slant range height. Consequently, a real but irregular sampled 3D map of the persistent radar scatterers can be generated which describes the city better. The dominant radar scatterers are related to buildings and other men made features. This is the reason the exact three-dimensional locations of the scatterers provide a lot of useful information on the area and the shape of the city and allowing various applications. Such a 3D map can be a better DEM input for each PS processing that allows an effective PS detection and optimal parameter estimation. A new parametric method for the detection and relative estimation of the two dominant scatterers configuration inside of a resolution cell has been developed. The developed method is more robust because it uses amplitude data only and complements the full tomography which includes the phase information. The city of Munich is one of DLR's testsite for the PS processing and the developed tomography algorithms. Examples for the generated data set and applications will be shown. The permanent scatterers are assessed in situ and the 3D position of the scatterers is checked and compared to the estimates. Aujourd'hui, ce n'est plus seulement l'aléa qui est modélisé. Géographes et assureurs s'intéressent de plus en plus à la vulnérabilité, nouvelle clé de lecture du risque.
