Résumé : (auteur) Remote sensing provides us with an approach for the rapid identification and monitoring of spatiotemporal changes in the urban ecological environment at different scales. This study aimed to construct a remote sensing assessment index for urban ecological livability with continuous fine spatiotemporal resolution data from Landsat and MODIS to overcome the dilemma of single image-based, single-factor analysis, due to the limitations of atmospheric conditions or the revisit period of satellite platforms. The proposed Ecological Livability Index (ELI) covers five primary ecological indicators – greenness, temperature, dryness, water-wetness, and atmospheric turbidity – which are geometrically aggregated by non-equal weights based on an entropy method. Considering multisource time-series data of each indicator, the ELI can quickly and comprehensively reflect the characteristics of the Ecological Livability Quality (ELQ) and is also comparable at different time scales. Based on the proposed ELI, the urban ecological livability in the central urban area of Wuhan, China, from 2002 to 2017, in the different seasons was analyzed every 5 years. The ELQ of Wuhan was found to be generally at the medium level (ELI ≈0.6) and showed an initial trend of degradation but then improved. Moreover, the ecological livability in spring and autumn and near rivers and lakes was found to be better, whereas urban expansion has led to the outward ecological degradation of Wuhan, but urban afforestation has enhanced the environment. In general, this paper demonstrates that the ELI has an exemplary embodiment in urban ecological research, which will support urban ecological protection planning and construction. [Termes IGN] zone urbaine denseRésumé : (auteur) Changes in land-use and land-cover (LULC) in urban areas affect the natural environment, especially urban green spaces (UGS). The present study examines the loss of UGS due to LULC transformation at different periods to predict the future vulnerable zone of UGS, based on the 'Pressure-State-Response’ framework. To calculate the weight of each factor, a combined Analytical Hierarchical Process and Fuzzy Comprehensive Evaluation method have been used. An integrated multilayer perceptron based artificial neural network and Markov chain (MLP-ANN-MC) model has been employed to predict the UGS vulnerable area in Kolkata. Results indicated that growth rates of built-up area, land-use dynamic degree, change intensity index, and proximity factors are the major responsible for UGS vulnerability. Applying the MLP-ANN-MC model, future vulnerable zones were identified for management and conservation of UGS. The methodology developed and demonstrated in this study expands LULC change analysis and provide a new dimension for UGS vulnerability assessment. [Termes IGN] zone urbaine denseRésumé : (auteur) Advances in the availability of multi-sensor, remote sensing-derived datasets, and machine learning algorithms can now provide an unprecedented possibility to predict flood events and risk. Therefore, this study was undertaken to develop a flood vulnerability map and to assess the exposure of buildings to flood risk in Warsaw, the capital of Poland. This goal was pursued in four research phases. The thirteen flood predictors were evaluated using information gain ratio (IGR), and finally reduced to eight of the most causative ones and used for flood vulnerability mapping with three machine learning algorithms, Artificial Neural Network Multi-Layer Perceptron (ANN/MLP), Deep Learning Neural Network based approach—DL4j (DLNN-DL4j) and Bayesian Logistic Regression (BLR). These algorithms show a good predictive performance with the receiver operating curve (ROC) value of 0.851, 0.877 and 0.697, respectively. The buildings’ exposure to flood was assessed in line with criteria established in European and national legal regulations. The introduced new buildings' flood hazard index (BFH) revealed a significant similarity of potential flood risk for both models, highlighting the greatest risk in zones with high vulnerability to flooding. Depending on the method used, the BFH value was 0.54 (ANN), 0.52 (DLNNs) or 0.64 (BLR). The holistic approach proposed in this study could assist local authorities in improving flood management. In this paper, the urban thermal environment and vegetation abundance in four East African cities (Khartoum, Addis Ababa, Kampala and Dar es Salaam) were characterised, providing new insights into the role and potentials of blue green infrastructure in differing climate regions. The Local Climate Zone (LCZ) framework was employed to detect the seasonal Land Surface Temperature (LST) and Enhanced Vegetation Index (EVI) derived from Landsat-8 data. Significant LST differences between LCZs in dry and rainy seasons were confirmed using a Welch's T test. The LCZs were found to offer potentially new approaches to investigating issues pertaining to urban heating in data-scarce regions. Greater surface urban heat island (SUHI) intensity during the rainy season was apparent in Khartoum and Addis Ababa, emphasising the importance of seasonality in urban thermal studies. Spatial correlations between EVI and LST within each LCZ were analysed through Moran's I and further illustrated the complex relationships of vegetation and thermal behaviour in urban areas. Despite these complexities, urban blue green infrastructure was found to moderate the SUHI, with different types of intervention required across different LCZs. The main limitations are encountered in the urban canyons, consisting in a reduced satellite signal availability and a positioning estimation error due to the impact of Line-of-Sight and Non Line-of-Sight multipath phenomenon. This PhD study allows to understand the impact of the multipath phenomenon on the low-cost GNSS receivers and to prove the need of accurate assessment of the multipath error model affecting the GNSS measurements, especially in urban environment. It consists in the investigation, characterization, and finally, exploitation of the multipath error components affecting the pseudorange and pseudorange-rate measurements, of a single frequency, dual constellation GNSS receiver in the urban environment, operating with GPS L1 C/A and Galileo E1 OS signals. The first goal consists in providing a set of methodologies able to identify, isolate and characterize the multipath error components from the measurements under test. However, considering that the isolation of the multipath error is a complex operation due to the superimposed effects of multipath and thermal noise, the final method consists of isolating the joint contribution of multipath and thermal noise components. The isolated multipath and thermal noise error components are firstly classified depending the corresponding received signal /0 values, and, secondly, statistically characterized by means of Probability Density Function, sample mean and sample variance. Also, the temporal and spatial correlation properties of the isolated error components are calculated by means of a methodology which estimates the temporal correlations as a function of the receiver speed. In addition, an image processing methodology based on the application of a sky-facing fish-eye camera provides the determination of an empirical /0 threshold equal to 35 dB-Hz used to qualitatively identify the Non Line- Of-Sight and Line-Of-Sight received signal reception states. The resulting errors are characterized by a nonsymmetrical, positive biased PDF for a /0 lower than 35 dBHz, while they are characterized by a symmetrical and zero-centred PDF for a /0 higher than 35 dB-Hz. Correlation times for pseudoranges are ranged from around 5s for static and very low speed dynamics to around 1s for high-speed dynamics. Correlation times for pseudorange-rates ranged from around 0.5s for static and very low speed dynamics to around 0.2s for high-speed dynamics, due to the data-rate limitations. The second goal consists in exploiting the multipath and thermal noise error models and the LOS/NLOS received signal reception state estimation in a low-complex EKF-based architecture to improve the accuracy of the PVT estimates. This is obtained by implementing some techniques based on the measurement weighting approach to take into account the statistical properties of the error under exam and by the application of a time differenced architecture design to exploit the temporal correlation properties. Positioning performance of the tested solutions surpassed the performances of a simple EKF architecture and are comparable to the performances of a uBlox M8T receiver.
