[Termes IGN] vingtième siècleRésumé : (Auteur) This paper aims at highlighting spatial aspects of the littoralisation process. Behind the general trend of people and activities concentration on the coast, littoralisation dynamics are spatially differentiated and coastal overload fuels new evolutions. As disaggregated data on urbanisation are not always available to make a retrospective analysis, this paper proposes to show how an image analysis method, named Mathematical Morphology, can contribute to determine spatial differentiations with the use of aggregated data. Through the analysis of home-building contrasts at a municipal level, Mathematical Morphology provides a regionalisation of the study area, the French Riviera, and its spatial reshapings during the second half of the twentieth century. [Termes IGN] requête spatiotemporelleRésumé : (Auteur) This paper addresses the problem of continuous aggregate nearest-neighbor (CANN) queries for moving objects in spatio-temporal data stream management systems. A CANN query specifies a set of landmarks, an integer k, and an aggregate distance function f (e.g., min, max, or sum), where f computes the aggregate distance between a moving object and each of the landmarks. The answer to this continuous query is the set of k moving objects that have the smallest aggregate distance f. A CANN query may also be viewed as a combined set of nearest neighbor queries. We introduce several algorithms to continuously and incrementally answer CANN queries. Extensive experimentation shows that the proposed operators outperform the state-of-the-art algorithms by up to a factor of 3 and incur low memory overhead. [Termes IGN] santéRésumé : (Auteur) Spatially aggregated data is frequently used in geographical applications. Often spatial data analysis on aggregated data is performed in the same way as on exact data, which ignores the fact that we do not know the actual locations of the data. We here propose models and methods to take aggregation into account. For this we focus on the problem of locating clusters in aggregated data. More specifically, we study the problem of locating clusters in spatially aggregated health data. The data is given as a subdivision into regions with two values per region, the number of cases and the size of the population at risk. We formulate the problem as finding a placement of a cluster window of a given shape such that a cluster function depending on the population at risk and the cases is maximized. We propose area-based models to calculate the cases (and the population at risk) within a cluster window. These models are based on the areas of intersection of the cluster window with the regions of the subdivision. We show how to compute a subdivision such that within each cell of the subdivision the areas of intersection are simple functions. We evaluate experimentally how taking aggregation into account influences the location of the clusters found. [Termes IGN] modèle de densitéRésumé : (Auteur) Intelligent crime analysis allows for a greater understanding of the dynamics of unlawful activities, providing possible answers to where, when and why certain crimes are likely to happen. We propose to model density change among spatial regions using a density tracing based approach that enables reasoning about large areal aggregated crime datasets. We discover patterns among datasets by finding those crime and spatial features that exhibit similar spatial distributions by measuring the dissimilarity of their density traces. The proposed system incorporates both localized clusters (through the use of context sensitive weighting and clustering) and the global distribution trend. Experimental results validate and demonstrate the robustness of our approach. [Vedettes matières IGN] GénéralisationRésumé : (Auteur) Topographic databases normally contain areas of different land cover classes, commonly defining a planar partition, that is, gaps and overlaps are not allowed. When reducing the scale of such a database, some areas become too small for representation and need to be aggregated. This unintentionally but unavoidably results in changes of classes. In this article we present an optimisation method for the aggregation problem. This method aims to minimise changes of classes and to create compact shapes, subject to hard constraints ensuring aggregates of sufficient size for the target scale. To quantify class changes we apply a semantic distance measure. We give a graph theoretical problem formulation and prove that the problem is NP-hard, meaning that we cannot hope to find an efficient algorithm. Instead, we present a solution by mixed-integer programming that can be used to optimally solve small instances with existing optimisation software. In order to process large datasets, we introduce specialised heuristics that allow certain variables to be eliminated in advance and a problem instance to be decomposed into independent sub-instances. We tested our method for a dataset of the official German topographic database ATKIS with input scale 1:50,000 and output scale 1:250,000. For small instances, we compare results of this approach with optimal solutions that were obtained without heuristics. We compare results for large instances with those of an existing iterative algorithm and an alternative optimisation approach by simulated annealing. These tests allow us to conclude that, with the defined heuristics, our optimisation method yields high-quality results for large datasets in modest time.
