[Termes IGN] site archéologiqueRésumé : (auteur) We are developing a vision-based system for photorealistic 3D modeling of previously unknown, complex and unstructured underground environments. Nowadays, laser range finders allow us to build 3D maps of the environment by taking multiple scans from different viewpoints. The scans are usually aligned via two post-processing steps: first, a coarse alignment is provided by an operator and second, a fine solution is computed via Iterative ClosestPoint algorithm. In this paper we describe an automatic on line scan matcher system which replaces the two post-processing steps of the existing methods. The scan matcher is powered by a pyramidal pairwise matching of 2D intensity panoramic views using a dense correlation procedure via quaternions. The proposed method does not rely on feature extraction providing thus an environment-independent solution for the scan matching task. The pyramidal structure provides a fast and accurate scan alignment in a coarse to fine approach. The scan matcher allows us to automatically build in situ 3D mosaics by integrating multiple partially overlapping scans based on a topological inference criterion which improves the global matching consistency. Tests on real data from two prehistoric caves are presented and a performance evaluation is given. [Termes IGN] texture d'imageRésumé : (Auteur) Conventional orthorectification software cannot handle surface occlusions and image visibility. The approach presented here synthesizes related work in photogrammetry and computer graphics/vision to automatically produce orthographic and perspective views based on fully 3D surface data (supplied by laser scanning). Surface occlusions in the direction of projection are detected to create the depth map of the new image. This information allows identifying, by visibility checking through back-projection of surface triangles, all source images which are entitled to contribute color to each pixel of the novel image. Weighted texture blending allows regulating the local radiometric contribution of each source image involved, while outlying color values are automatically discarded with a basic statistical test. Experimental results from a close-range project indicate that this fusion of laser scanning with multi-view photogrammetry could indeed combine geometric accuracy with high visual quality and speed. A discussion of intended improvements of the algorithm is also included. [Termes IGN] scène intérieureRésumé : (auteur) This dissertation presents a new and efficient next-best-view algorithm for 3D reconstruction of indoor environments using active range sensing. A major challenge in range acquisition for 3D reconstruction is an efficient automated view planning algorithm to determine a sequence of scanning locations or views such that a set of acquisition constraints and requirements is satisfied and the object or environment of interest can be satisfactorily reconstructed. Due to the intractability of the view planning problem and the lack of global geometric information, a greedy approach is adopted to approximate the solution. A practical view metric is formulated to include many real-world acquisition constraints and reconstruction quality requirements. This view metric is flexible to allow trade-offs between different requirements of the reconstruction quality. A major contribution of this work is the application of a hierarchical approach to greatly accelerate the evaluation of the view metric for a large set of views. This is achieved by exploiting the various spatial coherences in the acquisition constraints and reconstruction quality requirements when evaluating the view metric. The hierarchical view evaluation algorithm is implemented in a view planning system targeted for the acquisition of indoor environments using a monostatic range scanner with 3D pose. The results show great speedups over the straightforward method used in many previous algorithms. The view planning system has also been shown to be robust for realworld application. The dissertation also describes how the view metric can be generalized to incorporate general acquisition constraints and requirements, and how the hierarchical view evaluation algorithm can be generalized to scanners with general pose, and to scanners with bistatic sensors. A simple extension is also proposed to enable the hierarchical view evaluation algorithm to take into account each view’s sensitivity to the potential pose errors in the physical positioning of the scanner. A computed new view must produce a range image that can be accurately registered to the previous scans. In this work, a metric is developed to estimate the registration accuracy of the views. This metric considers the amount of overlap, the range measurement errors, and the shape complexity of the surfaces. Note de contenu : 1- Introduction

[Termes IGN] transformation en ondelettesRésumé : (Auteur) In the last few years, several researchers have proposed different procedures for the fusion of multispectral and panchromatic images based on the wavelet transform, which provide satisfactory high spatial resolution images keeping the spectral properties of the original multispectral data. The discrete approach of the wavelet transform can be performed with different algorithms, Mallat's and the 'à trous' being the most popular ones for image fusion purposes. Each algorithm has its particular mathematical properties and leads to different image decompositions. In this article, both algorithms are compared by the analysis of the spectral and spatial quality of the merged images which were obtained by applying several wavelet based, image fusion methods. All these have been used to merge Ikonos multispectral and panchromatic spatially degraded images. Comparison of the fused images is based on spectral and spatial characteristics and it is performed visually and quantitatively using statistical parameters and quantitative indexes. In spite of its a priori lower theoretical mathematical suitability to extract detail in a multiresolution scheme, the à trous' algorithm has worked out better than Mallat's algorithm for image merging purposes.
