analyse géovisuelle
Commentaire :
- Geovisual analytics refers to the science of analytical reasoning with spatial information as facilitated by interactive visual interfaces. It is distinguished by its focus on novel approaches to analysis rather than novel approaches to visualization or computational methods alone. As a result, geovisual analytics is usually grounded in real-world problem solving contexts. Research in geovisual analytics may focus on the development of new computational approaches to identify or predict patterns, new visual interfaces to geographic data, or new insights into the cognitive and perceptual processes that users apply to solve complex analytical problems. Systems for geovisual analytics typically feature a high-degree of user-driven interactivity and multiple visual representation types for spatial data. Geovisual analytics tools have been developed for a variety of problem scenarios, such as crisis management and disease epidemiology. Looking ahead, the emergence of new spatial data sources and display formats is expected to spur an expanding set of research and application needs for the foreseeable future. (Robinson, A. (2017). [Termes descripteurs IGN] représentation mentale spatialeRésumé : (Auteur) When map readers process information on cartographic maps, there is a competition for visual attention controlled by both top-down and bottom-up mechanisms. We hypothesize that when learning, map readers are predisposed to allocate attention asymmetrically and to initially favour some locations over others. This asymmetrical allocation of attention facilitates learning for certain locations as a result of familiarity bias. In this study, participants were asked to learn city locations on one of three cartographic maps. Maps displayed distributions of cities with true or novel locations and names. Results indicate that cognitive distance error was significantly less for “home” reference points, visually central reference points, and reference points within a visual cluster. Female participants outperformed male participants when learning novel maps; male participants performed significantly better with maps with true locations and city names. Both female and male learners performed better when processing maps with familiar locations and names. The results support the idea that a biased allocation of attention would cause learners to consider favoured relationships more frequently and to improve their accuracy relative to less favoured relationships and those that receive less attention. Results also support the notion that multiple factors on a map cause attention bias and that bias should disappear with sufficient experience. [Vedettes matières IGN] GéovisualisationRésumé : (auteur) Supporting the visual analysis of structured multivariate geo-spatial data is a challenging task involving many different aspects. In this paper, we describe a systematic view of this task based on Chi's data state reference model. The analytical, visual and interaction components of the systematic view will be instantiated with specific examples that demonstrate how their tight interconnection facilitates exploration and analysis of geo-spatial data. In particular, we address the visualization of hierarchical structures on maps applying an extended focus+context concept. Moreover, we introduce an approach to extracting association rules from geo-spatial data and visualizing them on maps. The GWR parameter space is treated as a multivariate dataset and explored in a geovisual exploratory environment with the goal to identify spatial and multivariate patterns that describe the spatial variability of the parameters and underlying spatial processes.
