[Termes IGN] SIFT (algorithme)Résumé : (Auteur)This paper proposes a robust image-matching method, which integrates SIFT with the optimized Bayes SAmpling Consensus (BaySAC). As the point correspondences are likely contaminated by outliers, we present a novel robust estimation method involving an efficient RaySAC for eliminating falsely accepted correspondences. The key points of the proposed hypothesis testing algorithm are determining and updating the prior probabilities of pseudo-correspondences. First, we propose a strategy for prior probability determination in terms of the statistical characteristics of a deterministic mathematical model for hypothesis testing. Moreover, the inlier probability updating is simplified based on a memorable form of Bayes' Theorem. The proposed approach is validated on a variety of image pairs. The results indicate that when compared with the performance of RANdom SAmpling Consensus (IIANSAC) and the original BaySAC, the proposed optimized BaySAC consumes less computation and obtains higher matching accuracy when the hypothesis set is contaminated with more outliers. [Termes IGN] vision stéréoscopiqueRésumé : (Auteur) A probabilistic neural-network-based feature-matching algorithm for a stereo image pair is presented in this paper, which will be useful as a constraint initializing method for further dense matching technique. In this approach, scale-invariant feature transform (SIFT) features are used to detect interest points in a stereo image pair. The descriptor which is associated with each keypoint is based on the histogram of the gradient magnitude and direction of gradients. These descriptors are the preliminary input for the matching algorithm. Using disparity range computed by visual inspection, the search area can be restricted for a given stereo image pair. Reduced search area improves the computation speed. Initial probabilities of matches are assigned to the keypoints which are considered as probable matches from the selected search area by Bayesian reasoning. The probabilities of all such matches are improved iteratively using relaxation labeling technique. Neighboring probable matches are exploited to improve the probability of best match using consistency measures. Confidence measures considering the neighborhood, unicity, and symmetry are some validation techniques which are built into the technique presented here for finding accurate matches. The algorithm is found to be effective in matching SIFT features detected in a stereo image pair with greater accuracy, and these accurate correspondences can be used in finding the fundamental matrix which encodes the epipolar geometry between the given stereo image pair. This fundamental matrix can then be used as a constraint for finding inliers that are used in matching methods for deriving dense disparity map. [Termes IGN] semis de pointsRésumé : (Auteur) Medium-format digital cameras are a useful tool in airborne lidar missions to produce digital ortho-images. This study investigates the quality of digital elevation models (DEMs) and digital surface models (DSMs) derived from such cameras. An image-matching strategy is used to produce height information from highly overlapping images and the quality of the derived height information is analysed using synchronous lidar point clouds as the reference data. The evaluation focused on various types of land cover and DEM generation methods. The RMSE between lidar and image-derived height information for two datasets was 0·054% and 0·027% of the flying height in flat, bare-earth areas, but studies with manually edited vegetated areas using stereo photogrammetry revealed high uncertainties, especially in steep terrain. [Termes IGN] utilisation du solRésumé : (auteur) Recent technologies allowed a major growth of geographical datasets with different levels of detail, different point of views, and different specifications, but on the same geographical extent. These datasets need to be integrated in order to benefit from their diversity. Conflation is one of the solutions to provide integration. Conflation aims at combining data that represent same entities from several datasets, into a richer new dataset. This paper proposes a framework that provides a geometrical conflation that preserves the characteristic shapes of geographic data. The framework is based on least squares adjustment, inspired from least squares based generalization techniques. It does not require very precise pre-matching, which is interesting as automatic matching remains a challenging task. Several constraints are proposed to preserve different kind of shape and relations between features, while conflating data. The framework is applied to a real land use parcels conflation problem with excellent results. The least squares based conflation is evaluated, notably with comparisons with existing techniques like rubber sheeting. The paper also describes how the framework can be extended to other geometrical optimization problems. [Termes IGN] structure-from-motionRésumé : (Auteur) Photogrammetric methods for dense 3D surface reconstruction are increasingly available to both professional and amateur users who have requirements that span a wide variety of applications. One of the key concerns in choosing an appropriate method is to understand the achievable accuracy and how choices made within the workflow can alter that outcome. In this paper we consider accuracy in two components: the ability to generate a correctly scaled 3D model; and the ability to automatically deliver a high quality data set that provides good agreement to a reference surface. The determination of scale information is particularly important, since a network of images usually only provides angle measurements and thus leads to unscaled geometry. A solution is the introduction of known distances in object space, such as base lines between camera stations or distances between control points. In order to avoid using known object distances, the method presented in this paper exploits a calibrated stereo camera utilizing the calibrated base line information from the camera pair as an observational based geometric constraint. The method provides distance information throughout the object volume by orbiting the object. In order to test the performance of this approach, four topical surface matching methods have been investigated to determine their ability to produce accurate, dense point clouds. The methods include two versions of Semi-Global Matching as well as MicMac and Patch-based Multi-View Stereo (PMVS). These methods are implemented on a set of stereo images captured from four carefully selected objects by using (1) an off-the-shelf low cost 3D camera and (2) a pair of Nikon D700 DSLR cameras rigidly mounted in close proximity to each other. Inter-comparisons demonstrate the subtle differences between each of these permutations. The point clouds are also compared to a dataset obtained with a Nikon MMD laser scanner. Finally, the established process of achieving accurate point clouds from images and known object space distances are compared with the presented strategies. Results from the matching demonstrate that if a good imaging network is provided, using a stereo camera and bundle adjustment with geometric constraints can effectively resolve the scale. Among the strategies for dense 3D reconstruction, using the presented method for solving the scale problem and PMVS on the images captured with two DSLR cameras resulted in a dense point cloud as accurate as the Nikon laser scanner dataset.
