[Termes IGN] structure hiérarchique de donnéesRésumé : (Auteur) In this chapter, database requirements for generalisation and multiple representations are pre-sented. In particular the paper focuses on modelling requirements. Some general concepts in the field of databases are reviewed before elaboration on the modelling of geographical databases and discussion of the modelling of multiple representations for geographical databases. The chap-ter stresses the requirements for efficiently modelling data before and during the generalisation process. The reader will first encounter a description of the basic notions of model, schema and objects. Then geographic modelling and multiple representation will be described through the ex-ample of the MADS model. A discussion is presented on the different requirements for modelling multiple representations (1) during the generalisation process, or (2) to store the generalisation result, or (3) to perform the integration of independent databases. Then the meaning and role of topology, composite objects and hierarchies will be emphasised in the requirements for generalisation, with aggregation taken as an important example to illustrate this process. [Termes IGN] scène intérieureRésumé : (auteur) This dissertation presents a new and efficient next-best-view algorithm for 3D reconstruction of indoor environments using active range sensing. A major challenge in range acquisition for 3D reconstruction is an efficient automated view planning algorithm to determine a sequence of scanning locations or views such that a set of acquisition constraints and requirements is satisfied and the object or environment of interest can be satisfactorily reconstructed. Due to the intractability of the view planning problem and the lack of global geometric information, a greedy approach is adopted to approximate the solution. A practical view metric is formulated to include many real-world acquisition constraints and reconstruction quality requirements. This view metric is flexible to allow trade-offs between different requirements of the reconstruction quality. A major contribution of this work is the application of a hierarchical approach to greatly accelerate the evaluation of the view metric for a large set of views. This is achieved by exploiting the various spatial coherences in the acquisition constraints and reconstruction quality requirements when evaluating the view metric. The hierarchical view evaluation algorithm is implemented in a view planning system targeted for the acquisition of indoor environments using a monostatic range scanner with 3D pose. The results show great speedups over the straightforward method used in many previous algorithms. The view planning system has also been shown to be robust for realworld application. The dissertation also describes how the view metric can be generalized to incorporate general acquisition constraints and requirements, and how the hierarchical view evaluation algorithm can be generalized to scanners with general pose, and to scanners with bistatic sensors. A simple extension is also proposed to enable the hierarchical view evaluation algorithm to take into account each view’s sensitivity to the potential pose errors in the physical positioning of the scanner. A computed new view must produce a range image that can be accurately registered to the previous scans. In this work, a metric is developed to estimate the registration accuracy of the views. This metric considers the amount of overlap, the range measurement errors, and the shape complexity of the surfaces. Note de contenu : 1- Introduction

It explores a new way of representing the topological relationships among 3D geographical features such as buildings and their internal partitions or subunits. The 3D topological data model is called the combinatorial data model (CDM). It is a logical data model that simplifies and abstracts the complex topological relationships among 3D features through a hierarchical network structure called the node-relation structure (NRS). This logical network structure is abstracted by using the property of Poincaré duality. It is modelled and presented in the paper using graph-theoretic formalisms. The model was implemented with real data for evaluating its effectiveness for performing 3D spatial queries and visualization. [Termes IGN] modèle numérique de terrainRésumé : (Auteur) A hierarchical terrain recovery approach for generating digital terrain models (DTM) from single and multiple returns lidar data is presented in this paper. The algorithm can intelligently discriminate between terrain and non-terrain points by using adaptive and robust filtering and interpolation techniques. It processes the image pyramid, bottom-up and top-down, to estimate high-quality terrain surfaces from lidar data with varying point densities and scene complexities. Using road and vegetation information, the algorithm is able to adaptively adjust thresholds to be suited to process changing contents in a large scene. The algorithms have been tested extensively using multiple medium - and high - resolution lidar datasets. The worst-case error is below 25 cm Linear Error (LE) 90 comparing the derived DTMs and the raw range images on bare surfaces when testing several lidar datasets.
