[Termes IGN] transport collectifRésumé : (auteur) Accessibility is a representative indicator for evaluating the supply of bus system. Traditional studies have evaluated the accessibility from different aspects. Considering the interaction among land use, bus timetable arrangement and individual factors, a more holistic accessibility measurement is proposed to combine static and dynamic characteristics from multisource traffic data. The rationale of the proposed model is verified by a case study of bus system in Shenzhen, China, which is carried out to find the spatial and temporal discrepancy of service of bus system. It is found that the adjustment of bus schedule to time-varying travel demand can affect accessibility of bus system and that Land-use development, average bus speed and bus facilities all have positive effects on accessibility of bus system. These findings provide significant reference for transport planning and policy-making. The proposed model is not limited to accessibility measuring of bus system, but also applicable to other travel modes. [Termes IGN] zone urbaineRésumé : (auteur) Electric vehicles arouse interest since they not only contribute economies of countries in the context of dependency to oil but also support to more livable and sustainable urban areas. The location selection of electric vehicle charging stations is one of the most vital topics in order to enhance the use of electric vehicles. In this sense, the aim of this paper is to propose an approach that integrates Geographic Information System (GIS) techniques and Multi-Criteria Decision Making (MCDM) methods for finding suitable locations of the electric vehicle charging stations. In this regard, the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) and the Fuzzy Analytic Hierarchy Process (FAHP) methods are used to calculate the weights of criteria. While the two different weights for each criterion are obtained by means of AHP in terms of environmental impact and accessibility, another weight for each criterion is obtained as a means of applying the FAHP. The intersection of three different suitability indexes is determined so as to achieve a holistic, credible result. The Technique for Order Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (TOPSIS) method is used to rank the alternative locations. The results show that the proposed approach offers a notable solution to be selected suitable charging station locations. Moreover, policymakers and administrators could benefit from these results in order to make efficient decisions for forward planning and strategies. [Termes IGN] web sémantiqueRésumé : (auteur) Geosensing and social sensing as two digitalization mainstreams in big data era are increasingly converging toward an integrated system for the creation of semantically enriched digital Earth. Along with the rapid developments of AI technologies, this convergence has inevitably brought about a number of transformations. On the one hand, value-adding chains from raw data to products and services are becoming value-adding loops composed of four successive stages – Informing, Enabling, Engaging and Empowering (IEEE). Each stage is a dynamic loop for itself. On the other hand, the “human versus technology” relationship is upgraded toward a game-changing “human and technology” collaboration. The information loop is essentially shaped by the omnipresent reciprocity between humans and technologies as equal partners, co-learners and co-creators of new values.
The paper gives an analytical review on the mutually changing roles and responsibilities of humans and technologies in the individual stages of the IEEE loop, with the aim to promote a holistic understanding of the state of the art of geospatial information science. Meanwhile, the author elicits a number of challenges facing the interwoven human-technology collaboration. The transformation to a growth mind-set may take time to realize and consolidate. Research works on large-scale semantic data integration are just in the beginning. User experiences of geovisual analytic approaches are far from being systematically studied. Finally, the ethical concerns for the handling of semantically enriched digital Earth cover not only the sensitive issues related to privacy violation, copyright infringement, abuse, etc. but also the questions of how to make technologies as controllable and understandable as possible for humans and how to keep the technological ethos within its constructive sphere of societal influence.

[Termes IGN] système d'information géographiqueRésumé : (Auteur) A long-standing question in GIScience is whether geographic information systems (GIS) facilitates an adequate quantifiable representation of the concept of place. Considering the difficulties of quantifying elusive concepts related to place, several researchers focus on more tangible dimensions of the human understanding of place. The most common approaches are semantic enrichment of spatial information and holistic conceptualization of the notion of place. However, these approaches give emphasis on either space or human meaning, or they mainly exist as concepts without practically proven usable artifacts. A partial answer to this problem was proposed by the function-based model that treats place as functional space. This paper focuses primarily on the level of composition, describing and formalizing it as a rule-based framework with the following objectives: (a) contribute to the formalization efforts of the notion of place and its integration within GIS and (b) maintain tangible properties intertwined with the human understanding of place. The operationalization potential of the proposed framework is illustrated with an example of identifying the shopping areas in an urban region. The results show that the proposed model is able to capture all shopping malls as well as other areas that are not explicitly labeled as such but still function similarly to a shopping mall. [Termes IGN] test statistiqueRésumé : (auteur) Proportional point symbols are commonly used in map displays. However, when such displays are zoomed out, the available map space shrinks and consequently symbols overlap and the display suffers from visual clutter. Therefore, solutions are needed to reduce visual clutter in zoomable map displays that contain proportional point symbols. The authors add to the body of knowledge through the investigation of the performance of three solutions: aggregation of unit areas, the displacement of overlapping symbols, and modified symbolization; four variations of modified symbolization are examined in detail. The original study begins with a consideration of the strengths and weaknesses of the solutions, with an emphasis on information loss. Thereafter, user sessions with 165 participants are arranged to gain empirical evidence of the performance of the solutions. The results reveal that although participants zoom out the map to zoom levels that implement visual clutter reduction techniques, they tend to zoom in the map and pan it to examine specific areas. Moreover, they willingly use the map with aggregated unit areas in cases when the solution facilitates task accomplishment. A certain amount of skepticism attaches to the solution that displaces overlapping symbols.
