[Termes IGN] télémètre laser terrestreRésumé : (Auteur) Terrestrial Linear Array CCD-based panoramic cameras have been used for purely imaging purposes, but they also have a high potential for use in high accuracy measurement applications. The imaging geometry and the high information content of those images make them suitable candidates for quantitative image analysis. For that a particular sensor model has to be established and the inherent accuracy potential has to be investigated. We developed a sensor model for terrestrial Linear Array-based panoramic cameras by means of a modified bundle adjustment with additional parameters, which models substantial deviations of a real camera from the ideal one. We used 3D straight-line information in addition to tie points to conduct a full calibration and orientation without control point information. Due to the similarity of the operation of laser scanners to panoramic cameras the sensor model of the panoramic cameras was extended for the self-calibration of laser scanners. We present the joint sensor model for panoramic cameras and laser scanners and the results of self-calibration, which indicate a subpixel accuracy level for such highly dynamic systems. Finally we demonstrate the systems’ accuracy of two typical panoramic cameras in 3D point positioning, using both a minimal number of control points and a free network adjustment. With these new panoramic imaging devices we have additional powerful sensors for image recording and efficient 3D object modeling. [Termes IGN] télémètre laser terrestreRésumé : (Auteur) Instrument calibration is recognised as an important process to assure the quality of data captured with a terrestrial laser scanner. While the self-calibration approach can provide optimal estimates of systematic error parameters without the need for specialised equipment or facilities, its success is somewhat hindered by high correlations between model variables. This paper presents the findings of a detailed study into the sources of correlation in terrestrial laser scanner self-calibration for a basic additional parameter set. Several pertinent outcomes, resulting from experiments conducted with simulated data, and 12 real calibration datasets captured with a Faro 880 terrestrial laser scanner, are presented. First, it is demonstrated that panoramic-type scanner self-calibration from only two instrument locations is possible so long as the scans have orthogonal orientation in the horizontal plane. Second, the importance of including scanner tilt angle observations in the adjustment for parameter de-correlation is demonstrated. Third, a new network measure featuring an asymmetric distribution of object points that does not rely upon a priori observation of the instrument position is proposed. It is shown to be an effective means to reduce the correlation between the rangefinder offset and the scanner position parameters. Fourth, the roles of several other influencing variables on parameter correlation are revealed. The paper concludes with a set of recommended design measures to reduce parameter correlation in terrestrial laser scanner self-calibration. [Termes IGN] téléphonie mobileRésumé : (Auteur) This paper examines the potential of mobile phones to be used as front-end sensors for photogrammetric procedures and applications. For this purpose, two mobile phone cameras (Sony Ericsson K750i and Nokia N93) were calibrated over an indoor 3D testfield, using a self-calibrating bundle adjustment. Geometric accuracy tests were carried out in order to evaluate their metric performances and to compare the results with respect to two off-the-shelf digital still video cameras (Sony DSC W100 and Sony DSC F828). The geometric accuracy evaluation comprised an absolute accuracy test, JPEG test and temporal stability test. The radiometric capabilities of all cameras (except that the DSC W100 was replaced with a DSC T100 camera) were also evaluated and compared by carrying out modulation transfer function (MTF) analysis, image noise analysis and an operating range test. Substantial systematic errors were diagnosed in some systems. However, with proper calibration it is believed that these devices can be used for many photogrammetric tasks. [Termes IGN] résiduRésumé : (Auteur) Since the advent of the first large format digital aerial cameras, high expectations have been placed on their performance. The dream of obtaining aerial images virtually free of geometric errors and with greater radiometric quality is getting close. Nevertheless, systematic image residuals, unexpected height errors in aerial triangulation and the need for additional self-calibration parameters have been reported since 2005. In this paper a preliminary analysis of the theoretical accuracies in aerial triangulation using the Zeiss/Intergraph (Z/I) Digital Mapping Camera (DMC) and an analogue camera is conducted, motivated by those recent reports. This analysis considers a mathematical model where the image has conical geometry and is free of systematic errors. The influence on the propagated block accuracy of the base-to-height ratio, image pointing precision (both manual and automatic), GPS observations for projection centres and of pass/tie point density is studied. Moreover, the expected accuracy in the aerial triangulation of analogue images using current procedures (having regard to the a priori accuracy for image pointing, ground control measurement and GPS and pass/tie point density) is computed. The goal of this theoretical study is to find the requirements for aerial triangulation with DMC data which would yield the same or an even higher level of accuracy than that obtained with analogue data under the same conditions. The paper continues with a check on the conclusions of this theoretical analysis, using real data-sets and aerial triangulation set-up, which fit with the theoretical analysis. The results prove that the expected theoretical accuracy in aerial triangulation is only obtained if an appropriate self-calibration parameter set is considered in the bundle block adjustment and/or if good GPS observations are available. These requirements result from the unfavourable propagation from unmodelled systematic error in the DMC image blocks. Some authors have detected systematic residuals in the order of one-tenth of a pixel rms in DMC image space. For this reason, investigations are being carried out on systematic error characterisation, distribution in image space and stability over time and flying height, and systematic error modelling, using self-calibration parameter sets and applying correction grids. Finally, conclusions are drawn from the investigations.
