The authors have proposed a Human-Centered Mobile Mapping framework to integrate smartphones’ positioning functions with various maps including hand-drawn maps. The framework is able to extend the current extent of UGC to include user-created maps, and to increase the diversity of maps in mobile environments. With the mobile application prototype Manpo, user experiments of creating geo-enabled hand-drawn maps have been conducted to college students who have little background knowledge of cartography. The results of the experiments have proved the functionality and usability of Manpo, but have also revealed that the users’ skills and experiences can strongly influence the quality of the content, especially the accuracy of positioning. Typical mistakes in map drawings and deployments of points of interest (POIs) are analyzed in details. The experiments have prompted improvements of the positioning methods, and raised future research issues including effective guidelines, user interfaces and assisted georeference editing for nonprofessional users. [Termes IGN] UMLRésumé : (éditeur) The second edition of this textbook includes revisions based on the feedback on the first edition. In a new chapter the authors provide a concise introduction to the remainder of UML diagrams, adopting the same holistic approach as the first edition. Using a case-study-based approach for providing a comprehensive introduction to the principles of object-oriented design, it includes:
A sound footing on object-oriented concepts such as classes, objects, interfaces, inheritance, polymorphism, dynamic linking, etc.
A good introduction to the stage of requirements analysis
Use of UML to document user requirements and design
An extensive treatment of the design process
Coverage of implementation issues
Appropriate use of design and architectural patterns
Introduction to the art and craft of refactoring
Pointers to resources that further the reader's knowledge
The focus of the book is on implementation aspects, without which the learning is incomplete. This is achieved through the use of case studies for introducing the various concepts of analysis and design, ensuring that the theory is never separate from the implementation aspects. All the main case studies used in this book have been implemented by the authors using Java. An appendix on Java provides a useful short tutorial on the language.Note de contenu : 1- Introduction

[Termes IGN] traçabilitéRésumé : (auteur) As an emerging complex concept, GeoDesign requires an innovative theoretical basis, tools, supports and practices. For this reason, we propose a new concept, “WikiGIS”, designed to answer some dimensions of the GeoDesign process. WikiGIS focuses on the needs of GeoDesign, but we leave the door open for future improvement when tested in other areas that may have additional needs. WikiGIS is built on Web 2.0 technologies—and primarily on wiki—to manage the tracking of participants’ editing (i.e., managing the contributions history). It also offers GIS functions for geoprocessing and a design-based approach for sketching proposals. One of the main strengths of WikiGIS is its ability to manage the traceability of contributions with an easy and dynamical access, data quality and deltification. The core of this paper consists of presenting a conceptual framework for WikiGIS using UML diagrams. A user interface is presented later to show how our WikiGIS proposal works. This interface is simply a means to illustrate the concepts underlying WikiGIS. [Termes IGN] visualisation cartographiqueRésumé : (Auteur) Increased attention to global climate change in recent years has resulted in a wide array of maps and geovisualizations that forecast various scenarios. Since many consequences of climate change are inherently geographic in nature, effective cartographic representations that depict these risks are valuable for planning and mitigation purposes. In particular, sea-level rise resulting from climate change calls attention to the numerous representation issues that warrant consideration for hazard and risk mapping in general, including categorizing and representing risk, selecting an appropriate level of realism, and displaying potential impacts of a hazard on human populations as well as on the natural and built environments. Using examples of potential inundation from sea-level rise at global, regional, and local scales, the authors propose a conceptual framework of key cartographic considerations for maps, Web-based mashups, and geovisualizations that depict risk. The cartographic framework presented here may be extended to other risks of an ambiguous or fuzzy nature and may be used to organize key future research areas for hazard or risk mapping in general.
