In this paper, we propose a novel semantics-enhanced density-based clustering algorithm SEM-DTBJ-Cluster, to extract semantic POIs from GPS trajectories. We then take into account three different factors (popularity, temporal and geographical features) that can influence the recommendation score of a POI. We characterize the impacts caused by popularity, temporal and geographical information, by using different scoring functions based on three developed recommendation models. Finally, we combine the three scoring functions together and obtain a unified framework PTG-Recommend for recommending candidate POIs for a mobile user. To the best of our knowledge, this work is the first that considers popularity, temporal and geographical information together. Experimental results on two real-world data sets strongly demonstrate that our framework is robust and effective, and outperforms the baseline recommendation methods in terms of precision and recall. [Vedettes matières IGN] GénéralisationRésumé : (auteur) Generalization and spatial contextual awareness are prevalent concepts in geographic information systems. This study adopted a context-dependent user-centred network generalization method to create a sub-network for optimal route finding. The results show an increase in the number of preferred traversed edges. A route presentation approach is suggested that is based on cognitively engineered user-oriented abstraction of street network. Successive abstractions hierarchize the street network to create a hierarchical presentation structure. The route is projected onto one level in the structure. Then, instead of showing the exact route, the network Voronoi regions represented by the projected route are shown. Experience indicates that the suggested method is an efficient way of route presentation for a hierarchical regionalized structure of a human cognitive map. [Termes IGN] point de repèreRésumé : (auteur) Although current navigation services provide significant benefits to people's mobility, the turn-by-turn instructions they provide are sometimes ineffective. These instructions require people to maintain a high level of attention and cognitive workload while performing distance or angle measurements on their own mental map. To overcome this problem, landmarks have been identified as playing a major role in turn-by-turn instructions. This requires the availability of landmarks in navigation databases. Landmarks are commonly selected manually, which involves time-consuming and tedious tasks. Automatic selection of landmarks has recently gained the attention of researchers but currently there are only a few techniques that can select appropriate landmarks. In this article, we present a technique based on a neural network model, where both static and dynamic features are used for selecting landmarks automatically. To train and test this model, two labeling approaches, manual labeling and rule-based labeling, are also discussed. Experiments on the developed technique were conducted and the results show that rule-based labeling has a precision of approximately 90%, which makes the technique suitable and reliable for automatic selection of landmarks. [Termes IGN] vectorisationRésumé : (auteur) Many devices nowadays record traveled routes as sequences of GPS locations. With the growing popularity of smartphones, millions of such routes are generated each day, and many routes have to be stored locally on the device or transmitted to a remote database. It is, thus, essential to encode the sequences, in order to decrease the volume of the stored or transmitted data. In this paper we study the problem of encoding routes over a vectorial road network (map), where GPS locations can be associated with vertices or with road segments. We consider a three-step process of dilution, map-matching and coding, which helps reducing the amount of transmitted data between the cellular device and remote servers. We present two methods to code routes. The first method represents the given route as a sequence of greedy paths. We provide two algorithms to generate a greedy-path code for a sequence of n vertices on the map. The first algorithm has O(n) time complexity, and the second one has O(n 2) time complexity, but it is optimal, meaning that it generates the shortest possible greedy-path code. Decoding a greedy-path code can be done in O(n) time. The second method encodes a route as a sequence of shortest paths. We provide algorithms to generate unidirectional and bidirectional optimal shortest-path codes. Encoding and decoding a shortest-path code can be done in O(k n 2 logn) time, where k is the length of the produced code, assuming the graph valency is bounded. Our experimental evaluation shows that shortest-path codes are more compact than greedy-path codes, justifying the larger time complexity. [Termes IGN] personne en fauteuil-roulantRésumé : (auteur) The development of a wheelchair user friendly route planning application inherits a number of special requirements and details that need to be considered during the generation of the routing graph and the corresponding algorithm, making this task much more complex than car or pedestrian related applications. Each wheelchair type and, more importantly, each individual user might have different needs with regards to the way condition or other criteria. This study proposes a new approach to route planning for wheelchair users tailored for individual and personal requirements provided by the user and the calculation of a reliability factor of the computed wheelchair path. The routing graph is based on the freely available Volunteered Geographic Information (VGI) retrieved from the OpenStreetMap (OSM) project. The newly created algorithm is evaluated and tested for a selected area in Bonn, Germany. A new reliability factor is introduced that gives direct feedback about the quality of the generated path. Similar factor estimations can also be utilized for multiple route planning applications where VGI or other commercial or administrative data is implemented and more detailed factors than a simple geometric representation of a street network are of importance.
