[Termes IGN] Station laser ultra-mobileRésumé : (auteur= The geodetic site of Ajaccio in Corsica is the main calibration site of satellite altimeters in the Mediterranean area. It has been developed for oceanographic missions such as TOPEX/Poseidon (T/P, 1992), Jason-1 (2001) and Envisat (2002). The French Transportable Laser Ranging System (FTLRS) can be deployed there during an absolute calibration campaign. The role of the FTLRS is to provide accurate tracking (range measurements) of the spacecraft altitude when passing above the in situ instruments (tide gauges, notably) and, at the same time, to ensure an absolute geocentric positioning to be tied to the tide gauge reference points. The first absolute calibration campaign has been carried out in Ajaccio, from January to September 2002; a second one has been carried out from May to October 2005. The goal is to detect a possible drift in the altimeter bias that could be detected at the 1 mm/yr level, or less if possible, between this two periods. To detect such a drift however, we have to be confident in the positioning of the sea surface height by in situ instruments at least at the same level of accuracy. Here, we present the computation of the two sets of geocentric coordinates from the FTLRS range data acquired in 2002 and in 2005 mainly on the low Earth geodetic satellites Starlette and Stella. The paper describes the different steps of the processing, notably in order to avoid correlations between the FTLRS range bias, the coordinates and the expected accuracy of computed orbits. Finally, a few mm accuracy is reached for the double positioning of the FTLRS in 2002 and in 2005. The tectonic velocity being deduced from both set of coordinates is compared to GPS permanent measurements to the level of less than 1 mm/yr. [Termes IGN] transfert radiatifRésumé : (Auteur) The Compact High Resolution Imaging Spectrometer (CHRIS) onboard the Project for On-Board Autonomy (PROBA) platform system provides the first high spatial resolution hyperspectral/multiangular remote sensing data from a satellite system, what represents a new source of information for Earth Observation purposes. A fully consistent radiative transfer approach is always preferred when dealing with the retrieval of surface reflectance from hyperspectral/multiangular data. However, due to the reported calibration anomalies for CHRIS data, a direct atmospheric correction based on physical radiative transfer modeling is not possible, and the method must somehow compensate for such calibration problems in specific wavelength ranges. A dedicated atmospheric correction algorithm for PROBA/CHRIS data over land is presented in this work. It consists in the combination of radiative transfer and empirical line approaches to atmospheric correction, in order to retrieve surface reflectance images free from both the atmospheric distortion and artifacts due to miscalibration. The atmospheric optical parameters and the updated set of calibration coefficients are obtained jointly in an autonomous process, without the need for any ancillary data. Results from the application of the algorithm to PROBA/CHRIS data from the two European Space Agency SPectra bARrax Campaign (SPARC) held at the Barrax study site (La Mancha, Spain) in 2003 and 2004 are presented in this work, focusing on the validation of the final surface reflectance using in situ measurements acquired simultaneously to PROBA overpasses. [Termes IGN] Station laser ultra-mobileRésumé : (auteur) The French Transportable Laser Ranging System (FTLRS), a highly transportable Satellite Laser Ranging (SLR) instrument, was set up in Corsica (from January to September 2002) for participating to the JASON-1 altimeter verification phase. In addition to the tracking of oceanographic satellite missions and in order to perform an accurate positioning, the FTLRS also acquired laser ranging data on geodetic satellites, STARLETTE and STELLA essentially. The paper describes the analysis strategy mainly based on the use of a short-arc orbit technique to compute accurate 1 cm local orbits, and then the geocentric positioning (2–3 mm relative to GPS). Finally, we established the JASON-1 absolute calibration value, based on 9 SLR short-arcs (between cycles 1 and 26), at 108.2 ± 8.7 mm; the 10-day repeatability is of 26.1 mm showing that a great accuracy has been reached. [Termes IGN] télémétrie laserRésumé : (auteur) A wide-angle airborne laser ranging system has been developed for the determination of relative heights of ground-based benchmarks in regional-scale networks (typically 100 laser reflectors spread over 100 km2). A first prototype demonstrated a 1–2 mm accuracy in radial distance measurement in a ground-based experiment in 1995. The first aircraft experiment was conducted in 1998, over a small area (1 km2) equipped with a network of 64 benchmarks. The instrument was modified before that experiment, in order to minimize echo superimposition due to the high density of benchmarks. New data processing algorithms have been developed, for the deconvolution of strongly overlapped echoes and a high a priori uncertainty in the aircraft flight path, and for the estimation of benchmark coordinates. A special methodology has been developed for the parameterization of these algorithms and of outlier detection tests. From a total of 2×104 pseudo-range measurements, that have been acquired from two flights composed of 30 legs each, only 3×103 remain after outlier detection. A positioning accuracy of 1.5 cm in the vertical coordinate (2.1 cm in the difference between the two flights) has been achieved. It is shown that the errors are normally distributed, with a nearly zero mean, and are consistent with the a posteriori uncertainty. It is also shown that the accuracy is limited mainly by the sensitivity of the photodetector used for this experiment (due to reduced response time). Another limiting factor is the effect of aircraft attitude changes during the measurements, which produces additional uncertainties in absolute distance measurements. It is planned to test new photodetectors with high internal gains. These should provide, in future experiments with smaller benchmark density, an improvement in signal-to-noise ratio of a factor of 5–10, leading to sub-centimeter vertical positioning accuracy.
