[Termes IGN] Ontario (Canada)Mots-clés libres : fissure Résumé : (auteur) With the advance of deep learning networks, their applications in the assessment of pavement conditions are gaining more attention. A convolutional neural network (CNN) is the most commonly used network in image classification. In terms of pavement assessment, most existing CNNs are designed to only distinguish between cracks and non-cracks. Few networks classify cracks in different levels of severity. Information on the severity of pavement cracks is critical for pavement repair services. In this study, the state-of-the-art CNN used in the detection of pavement cracks was improved to localize the cracks and identify their distress levels based on three categories (low, medium, and high). In addition, a fully convolutional network (FCN) was, for the first time, utilized in the detection of pavement cracks. These designed architectures were validated using the data acquired on four highways in Ontario, Canada, and compared with the ground truth that was provided by the Ministry of Transportation of Ontario (MTO). The results showed that with the improved CNN, the prediction precision on a series of test image patches were 72.9%, 73.9%, and 73.1% for cracks with the severity levels of low, medium, and high, respectively. The precision for the FCN was tested on whole pavement images, resulting in 62.8%, 63.3%, and 66.4%, respectively, for cracks with the severity levels of low, medium, and high. It is worth mentioning that the ground truth contained some uncertainties, which partially contributed to the relatively low precision. [Termes IGN] précision centimétriqueRésumé : (auteur) Scene analysis, in urban environments, deals with street modeling and understanding. A street mainly consists of roadways, pavements (i.e., walking areas), facades, still and moving obstacles. In this paper, we investigate the surface modeling of roadways and pavements using LIDAR data acquired by a mobile laser scanning (MLS) system. First, road border detection is considered. A system recognizing curbs and curb ramps while reconstructing the missing information in case of occlusion is presented. A user interface scheme is also described, providing an effective tool for semi-automatic processing of large amount of data. Then, based upon road edge information, a process that reconstructs surfaces of roads and pavements has been developed, providing a centimetric precision while reconstructing missing information. This system hence provides an important knowledge of the street, that may open perspectives in various domains such as path planning or road maintenance. [Termes IGN] réseau routierRésumé : (Auteur) Comprehensive and accurate information on the conditions of the road infrastructure is essential for effective management and planning of the road network, especially in cities facing serious traffic congestion problems, as in the city of Istanbul, Turkey. One of the most important services of the local authorities is the rehabilitation of road surfaces. Asphalt resurfacing is carried out to renew the road surface and restore its resistance to weathered and traffic worn pavements. Today, the determination of pavement surface conditions is usually carried out through visual inspections by the experts and interpretation of in situ photographs/videos. In this study, an investigation has been made to understand the spectral behaviour of the asphalt in terms of its contents and age, also to discover the feasibility of using widely available satellite sensors in the determination of road surface conditions. Two datasets in the study area from D-100 road and TEM highway were used to examine asphalt road aging and deterioration. The changes to the conditions of the roads were detected using multispectral IKONOS images and ground spectral measurements for asphalt samples were obtained using an Analytical Spectral Devices full range (ASD FR) instrument in a laboratory environment. It was found that the road deformations mainly occur in areas where vehicles reduce or increase their speeds suddenly. Road sections just before toll booths and junctions are found to be more prone to deformations. IKONOS images can be effectively used to determine the condition of the asphalt pixels.
