[Termes IGN] superposition de donnéesRésumé : (auteur) Three-dimensional (3D) point cloud registration is a fundamental step for many 3D modeling and mapping applications. Existing approaches are highly disparate in the data source, scene complexity, and application, therefore the current practices in various point cloud registration tasks are still ad-hoc processes. Recent advances in computer vision and deep learning have shown promising performance in estimating rigid/similarity transformation between unregistered point clouds of complex objects and scenes. However, their performances are mostly evaluated using a limited number of datasets from a single sensor (e.g. Kinect or RealSense cameras), lacking a comprehensive overview of their applicability in photogrammetric 3D mapping scenarios. In this work, we provide a comprehensive review of the state-of-the-art (SOTA) point cloud registration methods, where we analyze and evaluate these methods using a diverse set of point cloud data from indoor to satellite sources. The quantitative analysis allows for exploring the strengths, applicability, challenges, and future trends of these methods. In contrast to existing analysis works that introduce point cloud registration as a holistic process, our experimental analysis is based on its inherent two-step process to better comprehend these approaches including feature/keypoint-based initial coarse registration and dense fine registration through cloud-to-cloud (C2C) optimization. More than ten methods, including classic hand-crafted, deep-learning-based feature correspondence, and robust C2C methods were tested. We observed that the success rate of most of the algorithms are fewer than 40% over the datasets we tested and there are still are large margin of improvement upon existing algorithms concerning 3D sparse corresopondence search, and the ability to register point clouds with complex geometry and occlusions. With the evaluated statistics on three datasets, we conclude the best-performing methods for each step and provide our recommendations, and outlook future efforts. [Termes IGN] système complexeRésumé : (auteur) Wildlife corridors in a landscape include local vegetation, topography, prey base, water and are associated with isolated wildlife habitat patches. They facilitate maintenance of ecological structure and function as well as provide connectivity to faunal populations supporting genetic transfers, and are elements critical to wildlife management. In this work, habitat patches for tiger, both inside as well as outside of Protected Areas have been identified by developing a Habitat Suitability Index model utilizing Remote Sensing and Geographical Information System datasets for the Terai Arc landscape, India. By using a computational approach based on the framework of theory of complex networks, for exclusively pairwise interactions between the habitat patches, a potential tiger corridor network has been structurally identified and studied in this landscape. The interactions between these habitat patches on a spatial scale has been analyzed as a clique of the corridor network. Further, the Clique Percolation Method has been applied to detect overlapping communities of habitat patches in the landscape. The Cliques required for maintaining contiguity between the habitat patches in order to support tiger movement are validated using field observations of tiger communities within the landscape matrix. The model developed for identification of tiger corridors in this study could potentially be of a vital importance for wildlife stakeholders to better understand and manage tiger populations both within and outside of protected areas. The study also highlights Critical Habitat Patches and their importance in maintaining landscape connectivity for tiger dispersal in the landscape. Using a report published by the Government of India as a benchmark, the model presented in the work is found to have an accuracy of 90.73% in predicting tiger carrying patches and the corridor network in the focal landscape. [Termes IGN] zone tamponRésumé : (auteur) Given the initial calibration of multiple sensors, the fine registration between Mobile Laser Scanning (MLS) point clouds and panoramic images is still challenging due to the unforeseen movement and temporal misalignment while collecting. To tackle this issue, we proposed a novel automatic method to register the panoramic images and MLS point clouds based on the matching of pole objects. Firstly, 2D pole instances in the panoramic images are extracted by a semantic segmentation network and then optimized. Secondly, every corresponding frustum point cloud of each pole instance is obtained by a shape-adaptive buffer region in the panoramic image, and the 3D pole object is extracted via a combination of slicing, clustering, and connected domain analysis, then all 3D pole objects are fused. Finally, 2D and 3D pole objects are re-projected onto virtual images respectively, and then fine 2D-3D correspondences are collected through maximizing pole overlapping area by Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO). The accurate extrinsic orientation parameters are acquired by the Efficient Perspective-N-Point (EPnP). The experiments indicate that the proposed method performs effectively on two challenging urban scenes with an average registration error of 2.01 pixels (with RMSE 0.88) and 2.35 pixels (with RMSE 1.03), respectively. [Termes IGN] processus stochastiqueRésumé : (auteur) Even more than 75 years after the Second World War, numerous unexploded bombs (duds) linger in the ground and pose a considerable hazard to society. The areas containing these duds are documented in so-called impact maps, which are based on locations of exploded bombs; these locations can be found in aerial images taken shortly after bombing. To generate impact maps, in this paper we present a novel approach based on marked point processes (MPPs) for the automatic detection of bomb craters in such images, some of which are overlapping. The object model for the craters is represented by circles and is embedded in the MPP-framework. By means of stochastic sampling, the most likely configuration of objects within the scene is determined. Each configuration is evaluated using an energy function that describes the consistency with a predefined object model. High gradient magnitudes along the object borders and homogeneous grey values inside the objects are favoured, while overlaps between objects are penalized. Reversible Jump Markov Chain Monte Carlo sampling, in combination with simulated annealing, provides the global optimum of the energy function. Our procedure allows the combination of individual detection results covering the same location. Afterwards, a probability map for duds is generated from the detections via kernel density estimation and areas around the detections are classified as contaminated, resulting in an impact map. Our results, based on 74 aerial wartime images taken over different areas in Central Europe, show the potential of the method; among other findings, a clear improvement is achieved by using redundant image information. We also compared the MPP method for bomb crater detection with a state-of-of-the-art convolutional neural network (CNN) for generating region proposals; it turned out that the CNN outperforms the MPPs if a sufficient amount of representative training data is available and a threshold for a region to be considered as crater is properly tuned prior to running the experiments. If this is not the case, the MPP approach achieves better results.
