[Termes IGN] turbidité océaniqueRésumé : (Auteur) New photobathymetry and water quality software is described here that utilizes subpixel analysis software (Subpixel Classifier) with an autonomous image calibration procedure and analytic retrieval algorithm to simultaneously retrieve and report bottom depth and the concentrations of suspended chlorophyll, suspended sediments, and colored dissolved organic carbon on a perpixel basis from four-band multispectral image data. From the derived composition, the QSC2 (Quantitative Shoreline Characterization, Version 2.0) software also computes and reports water column visibility parameters (vertical and horizontal subsurface sighting ranges and turbidity, each at four wavelength band passes, plus Secchi depth as a scalar) as well as depth and turbidity confidence. Qsc2 compensates for the effects of the atmosphere, sun and sky reflections from the water surface, subpixel contributions from exposed land, and variations in the bottom material properties. All information is derived automatically from the pixel data alone. The performance of the Qsc2 software was demonstrated using a four-band Ikonos image of Plymouth, Massachusetts. Accuracies of the image-derived compositions, water clarity, and depths were assessed using field and laboratory measurements for eight representative lakes in the scene. The means of the differences of the field-measured and image-derived suspended chlorophyll and colored dissolved organic carbon concentrations for the eight lakes were 1.82 ug/l and 4.34 mgC/1, respectively. The image-derived concentrations of suspended sediments were all below the threshold of detection for the field samples (5 mg/1), in agreement with the field data. The mean of the differences between field-measured and image-derived Secchi depths was 0.76 m. The mean depth difference was 0.57 m. [Termes IGN] turbidité des eauxRésumé : (Auteur) Remote sensing techniques can be used to monitor water quality parameters (i.e., suspended sediments (turbidity), chlorophyll, and temperature). Optical and thermal sensors on boats, aircraft, and satellites provide both spatial and temporal information needed to monitor changes in water quality parameters for developing management practices to improve water quality. Recent and planned launches of satellites with improved spectral and spatial resolution sensors should lead to greater use of remote sensing techniques to assess and monitor water quality parameters. Integration of remotely sensed data, GPS, and GIS technologies provides a valuable tool for monitoring and assessing waterways. Remotely sensed data can be used to create a permanent geographically located database to provide a baseline for future comparisons. The integrated use of remotely sensed data, GPS, and GIS will enable consultants and natural resource managers to develop management plans for a variety of natural resource management applications. [Termes IGN] programmation linéaireRésumé : (Auteur) In this thesis, a method to estimate vegetation parameters from multispectral remote sensing data using physical radiative transfer models and a small amount of ground-truth data is proposed. During two years this method has been exemplarily validated for different winter wheat fields imaged by a Daedalus ATM multispectral scanner. The focus lies on the variations of vegetation parameters within single fields. These variations allow to derive information about soil heterogeneities, which are important parameters for precision farming applications. For the estimation of vegetation parameters, physical radiative transfer models are combined with a linear empirical model and inverted with numerical optimisation methods. Ground-truth measurements are employed to reduce errors by a linear empirical fitting of the applied physical models. Results of model inversions with synthetic and real datasets show, that four vegetation parameters, leaf area index, chlorophyll content, specific dry matter, and specific water content are estimable assuming the given configuration. The strength of this method lies on the comprehensive and robust modelling, which assures reliable estimation of several vegetation parameters with a minimum number of ground-truth measurements. The accuracies of the estimated parameters are comparable with the quality of the ground-truth measurements. [Termes IGN] radiométrieRésumé : (Auteur) A methodology for ocean colour analysis in coastal zones through airborne sensors is introduced and applied to multispectral data gathered at different altitude over test sites in the Northern Adriatic Sea. Data obtained by the Ocean Color Radiometer (working in the same bands of the Coastal Zone Color Scanner) and the Six Channel Radiometer (working in the spectral region characterized by natural fluorescence of chlorophyll) have been corrected for atmospheric and sea-surface effects by modelling radiative processes involved in remote sensing of water colour. Water radiance spectra and chlorophyll and sediment concentrations, derived from remotely sensed data corrected for atmospheric and sea-surface effects, demonstrate the capabilities of the methodology in performing quantitative analysis of materials suspended or dissolved in sea water.
