[Termes IGN] primitive géométriqueRésumé : (auteur) The analysis of remotely sensed data for object extraction is a key step in an increasing number of GIS (Geographic Information Science) applications, in particular for mapping, updating and change detection purposes. The main goal of this paper is to present an automatic method for detecting changes in a 2D building database, starting from recent satellite images. The workflow of our method is divided into two steps. 3D primitives, extracted from multiple images or from a correlation Digital Surface Model (DSM), are firstly collected for each building and matched with primitives derived from the existing database in order to achieve a final decision about acceptance or rejection. A specific algorithm, based on the DSM and a computed Digital Terrain Model (DTM), is subsequently used to extract new buildings. The method is here introduced and tested in two test areas, very different regarding the land use and topography. The outcomes of the method are assessed and show the good performance of our system, especially in terms of completeness, robustness and transferability. [Termes IGN] télémétrie laser aéroportéRésumé : (Auteur) Airborne laser scanning technology is primarily perceived as a means for gathering detailed three-dimensional information about the surface and objects on it. The dense 3D data contain information about surface features and geohazards, some of which are of subtle form. Geohazards are usually embedded within the terrain, and scarcely form distinct shape-transition to their surroundings; therefore their detection is challenging. We address in this paper detection of subtle terrain features and demonstrate it on collapse sinkholes. Collapse sinkholes are surface depressions whose formation has severe effect on the environment and on regional development. We present an autonomous model for their extraction and characterization. Sinkholes within the studied regions appear in various size, forms, from their embryonic to a well developed formation. The level of sinkhole detection is high, and as demonstrated, the model performs well under varying landforms and surface texture, with little influence on the correctness of the extracted sinkholes. As the results show, features of approximately 20 cm deep can be identified and separated from their surroundings in the data. [Termes IGN] toitRésumé : (Auteur) The integration of lidar data and aerial imagery is a promising approach for accurate building model generation. In this research, lidar data and stereo-aerial imagery are incorporated in the generation of complex polyhedral building models whose rooftops are bounded by straight lines. The process starts by utilizing lidar data for deriving building hypotheses and the initial boundaries of the planar patches constituting the buildings' rooftops. The boundaries of these patches are then refined through the incorporation of stereo-aerial imagery while utilizing 3D geometric and spectral constraints. Precise building boundaries are derived through resolving feature matching problems and fully utilizing spectral information. Finally, an efficient manual mono-plotting procedure is introduced to remove incorrect and add missing boundaries. The performance of the developed procedures is evaluated through experimental results from real data where the correctness, completeness, and accuracy of the derived building models are evaluated through comparison with a manually generated DEM. [Termes IGN] valléeRésumé : (Auteur) As an important method of terrain representation, a DEM usually needs to be generalized at multiple resolutions in order to adapt to different applications. The preservation of main landscape features is an important constraint in DEM generalization. The traditional generalization method based on signal processing by resampling or low-pass filtering is just a data compression operation rather than the abstraction of real information. This study develops a structured analysis method to generalize DEM data through the identification of minor valleys and filling the corresponding depression positions. The generalization process has two steps: geographic decision and geometric operation. According to their hydrological significance, the unimportant valley branches are detected and their corresponding coverage is filled by raising the terrain to make the terrain surface smoother. In contrast to the conventional algorithms based on image processing, this method is able to retain the main geographical characteristics more effectively in terrain representation.
