[Termes IGN] web des donnéesRésumé : (auteur) Geospatial data is an increasingly important information asset for decisionmaking, from simple every day decisions like where to park your car, to national and international policy on topics like infrastructure and environment. Because of the location aspect, geospatial data is often the linking pin between different datasets and therefore important for data integration. A lot of geospatial data is created, for example, as part of governmental processes and nowadays, also disseminated as open data, traditionally through "Spatial data infrastructures" (SDIs). There is a lot of potential for reusing this data in other domains than the domain and use case for which it was originally created. My main research question was: "How to reuse geospatial data, from different, heterogeneous sources, via the web across communities?". Several aspects of data dissemination must be addressed before open data is actually in a good position for getting reused. [Termes IGN] utilisateurRésumé : (Auteur) In current navigation systems quantitative metrics such as distance, time and energy are used to determine optimal paths. Yet, a “best path”, as judged by users, might take qualitative features into account, for instance the scenery or the touristic attractiveness of a path. Machines are unable to quantify such “soft” properties. Crowdsourced data provides us with a means to record user choices and opinions. In this work, we survey heterogeneous sources of spatial, spatio-temporal and textual crowdsourced data as a proxy for qualitative information of users in movement. We (i) explore the process of extracting qualitative information from uncertain crowdsourced data sets employing different techniques, (ii) investigate the enrichment of road networks with the extracted information by adjusting its properties and by building a meta-network, and (iii) show how to use the enriched networks for routing purposes. An extensive experimental evaluation of our proposed methods on real-world data sets shows that qualitative properties as captured by crowdsourced data can indeed be used to improve the quality of routing suggestions while not sacrificing their quantitative aspects. [Vedettes matières IGN] GénéralisationRésumé : (Auteur) Line generalization is an essential data processing operation in geographic information systems and cartography. Many point reduction and simplification algorithms have been developed for this purpose. During the last three decades, several attempts have been made to develop approaches of generalization that adapt to the geometric properties of the processed lines. They typically incorporate line segmentation based on quantitative descriptions of the line shape. Little attention has been paid to the cases in which heterogeneous lines of different geometric character are mixed in one dataset. One common example is administrative borders, which often contain natural and artificial, smooth and sharp, schematic and non-schematic, and regular and irregular shapes. The tuning of the simplification algorithm based on a quantitative description of the shape would be ineffective here, since different algorithms must be applied to lines of different characters. In this article, we present a general method and generalization model for the simplification of such datasets. The properties of schematism, smoothness and regularity are used to differentiate various line characters. Three line characters, including irregular non-schematic, irregular schematic and regular orthogonal schematic, were selected for the current study. The developed generalization model consists of preprocessing, processing and postprocessing stages. Line segmentation based on the detection of different characters is performed during the preprocessing stage. Then, Li–Openshaw, Douglas–Peucker and orthogonal simplification are applied to the appropriate segments in the processing stage. Postprocessing enables the addition of extra regularity to the simplified shape. A visual and quantitative assessment of the results is provided and demonstrates the effectiveness of the developed approach in comparison with the global application of a single simplification algorithm. [Termes IGN] série temporelleRésumé : (Auteur) This paper evaluates the retrieval of soil moisture in the top 5-cm layer at 3-km spatial resolution using L-band dual-copolarized Soil Moisture Active-Passive (SMAP) synthetic aperture radar (SAR) data that mapped the globe every three days from mid-April to early July, 2015. Surface soil moisture retrievals using radar observations have been challenging in the past due to complicating factors of surface roughness and vegetation scattering. Here, physically based forward models of radar scattering for individual vegetation types are inverted using a time-series approach to retrieve soil moisture while correcting for the effects of static roughness and dynamic vegetation. Compared with the past studies in homogeneous field scales, this paper performs a stringent test with the satellite data in the presence of terrain slope, subpixel heterogeneity, and vegetation growth. The retrieval process also addresses any deficiencies in the forward model by removing any time-averaged bias between model and observations and by adjusting the strength of vegetation contributions. The retrievals are assessed at 14 core validation sites representing a wide range of global soil and vegetation conditions over grass, pasture, shrub, woody savanna, corn, wheat, and soybean fields. The predictions of the forward models used agree with SMAP measurements to within 0.5 dB unbiased-root-mean-square error (ubRMSE) and -0.05 dB (bias) for both copolarizations. Soil moisture retrievals have an accuracy of 0.052 m3/m3 ubRMSE, -0.015 m3/m3 bias, and a correlation of 0.50, compared to in situ measurements, thus meeting the accuracy target of 0.06 m3/m3 ubRMSE. The successful retrieval demonstrates the feasibility of a physically based time series retrieval with L-band SAR data for characterizing soil moisture over diverse conditions of soil moisture, surface roughness, and vegetation. [Termes IGN] teneur intégrée en vapeur d'eauRésumé : (auteur) [motivation] Within the COST Action ES1206 “Advanced Global Navigation Satellite Systems tropospheric products for monitoring severe weather events and climate” (GNSS4SWEC), there was a clear interest and need to homogenize Integrated Water Vapour (IWV) datasets retrieved from Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) observations, by correcting (artificial) breakpoints due to e.g. instrumental changes. Based on the results of an inquiry, a homogenization activity was started within Working Group 3 (”Use of GNSS tropospheric products for climate monitoring”), targeting the following objectives: (i) select one or two long-term reference datasets, (ii) apply different homogenization algorithms on these reference datasets, and build up a list of commonly identified inhomogeneities based on statistical detection and metadata information, and (iii) come up with an homogenized version of the reference dataset that can be re-used to study climate trends and time variability by the entire community.
