[Termes IGN] Yunnan (Chine)Résumé : (Auteur) Changes in forest composition impact ecological services, and are considered important factors driving global climate change. A hybrid sampling method along with a modelling approach to map current and past land cover in Kunming, China is reported. MODIS land cover (2001–2011) data-sets were used to detect pixels with no apparent change. Around 3000 ‘no change points’ were systematically selected and sampled using Google Earth’s high-resolution imagery. Thirty-five per cent of these points were verified and used for training and validation. We used Random forests to classify multi-temporal Landsat imagery. Results show that forest cover has had a net decrease of 14385 ha (1.3% of forest area), which was primary converted to shrublands (11%), urban and barren land (2.7%) and agriculture (2.5%). Our validation indicates an overall accuracy (Kappa) of 82%. Our methodology can be used to consistently map the dynamics of land cover change in similar areas with minimum costs. [Termes IGN] télémétrie laser terrestreRésumé : (Auteur) This paper presents an approach for the automatic registration of terrestrial laser scans using linear features. The main contribution here is introducing a new matching strategy that uses an association matrix to store information about candidate matches of linear features. The motivation for this work is aiding the 3D modeling of industrial sites rich with pole-like features. The proposed matching strategy aims at establishing hypotheses about potential minimal watches of linear features that could be used for the estimation of the transformation parameters relating the scans; then, quantifying the agreement between the scans using the estimated transformation parameters. We combine the association matrix and the well-known RANSAC approach for the derivation of conjugate pairs among the two scans. Rather than randomly selecting the line pairs as in the RANSAC-based registration, the association matrix guides the process of selecting the candidate matches of linear features. Experiments are conducted using laser scanning data of an electrical substation to assess the performance of the proposed association-matrix-based sample consensus approach as it compares to the traditional RANSAC-based procedure. The association-matrix-based approach showed consistent tendency of bringing up the correct mutches first before the RANSAC-based registration. [Termes IGN] qualité des donnéesRésumé : (Auteur) A major theme in the geographical studies of social media content such as tweets from Twitter is to extract the locations of content providers (e.g., Twitter users) in order to track their movements or activity patterns. This framework also has been used to detect the dispersion of ideas over space and time. Another theme is to assess how the interaction of these providers may vary between the physical and virtual spaces. However, few geographical studies have explored if social media content can be used to examine the relationship between the characteristics of content providers and their geographical knowledge at different spatial scales. We expected that in general, one's awareness of the local geography should be higher than that of places farther away. In this paper, we explored if such pattern of geographical awareness in the physical space is reflected in the social media content. We reported our detailed examinations of tweets from a set of individuals who have provided substantial information in their profiles. Using text-mining methods, including natural language processing (NLP) techniques, we identified place names mentioned in the tweets and geocoded them. These locations were analyzed in a geographical-hierarchical manner to build a geographical awareness profile for each individual. While these geographical awareness profiles vary quite dramatically, their variations can be explained by the users’ characteristics, which were interpreted from their tweet content. This study demonstrates how social media content may be used to assess the geographical awareness characteristics of a biased sample population.
