[Termes IGN] visibilité (optique)Résumé : (auteur) In this paper, we present a geometric approach to render shadows for physically based materials under polygonal light sources. Direct illumination calculation from a polygonal light source involves the triple product integral of the lighting, the bidirectional reflectance distribution function (BRDF), and the visibility function over the polygonal domain, which is computation intensive. To achieve real-time performance, work on polygonal light shading exploits analytical solutions of boundary integrals along the edges of the polygonal light at the cost of lacking shadowing effects. We introduce a hierarchical representation for the precomputed visibility function to retain the merits of closed-form solutions for boundary integrals. Our method subdivides the polygonal light into a set of polygons visible from a point to be shaded. Experimental results show that our method can render complex shadows with a GGX microfacet BRDF from polygonal light sources at interactive frame rates. In addition, our visibility representation can be easily incorporated into environment lighting. [Termes IGN] rugosité du solRésumé : (auteur) The purpose of this study is to estimate the surface roughness (rms) using TerraSar-X data in HH polarization. Simulation of data is carried out at a wide range of moisture and roughness using the Integral Equation Model (IEM). The inversion method is based on Multi-Layer Perceptron neural network. Inversion technique is performed in two steps. In the first step, the neural network is trained using synthetic data. The inputs of the first neural network are the backscattering coefficient and incidence angle, and the moisture is the output. In the next step, three neural networks are built based on a prior and without prior information on roughness. The inputs of three neural network are backscattering coefficient, estimated moisture in the first step and incidence angle and the roughness is output. The validation of the proposed methods is carried out based on synthetic and real data. Ground roughness measurements are extracted from Digital Terrain Model (DTM) using the fractal method. The accuracy of moisture from synthetic data is 6.1 vol% without prior information on moisture and roughness. The roughness (rms) accuracy of synthetic datasets is 0. 61 cm without prior information and is 0.31 cm and 0.38 cm for rms lower than 2 cm and rms between 2 and 4 cm, with prior information on roughness. The result's analysis of the simulated data showed that the prior information on roughness strongly improves the accuracy of roughness and moisture estimates. The accuracy of rms estimates for the TerraSar-X image in the HH polarization is about 0.9 cm in the case of no prior information on roughness. The accuracy improves to 0.57 cm for rms lower than 2 cm and 0.54 cm for rms between 2 and 4 cm with prior information on roughness. An overestimation of rms for rms lower than 2 cm and an underestimation of rms for rms higher than 2 cm are observed. The results of the accuracy of the synthetic and real data showed that the X band in HH polarization has a very good potential to estimate the soil roughness. We work in the space of integrable functions weighted with the principal dual eigenfunction of the growth-fragmentation operator. This space is the largest one in which we can expect convergence to the steady size distribution. Although this convergence is known to occur under fairly general conditions on the coefficients of the equation, we prove that it does not happen uniformly with respect to the initial data when the fragmentation rate in bounded. First we get the result for fragmentation kernels which do not form arbitrarily small fragments by taking advantage of the Dyson–Phillips series. Then we extend it to general kernels by using the notion of quasi-compactness and the fact that it is a topological invariant. First, corresponding differential operators, that relate the disturbing gravitational potential to the six components of the disturbing gradiometric tensor in the spherical local north-oriented frame, are applied to the spherical Abel-Poisson integral equation. This yields six new integral equations for which respective kernel functions are given in both spectral and spatial forms. Second, truncation error formulas for each of the integral transforms are provided in the spectral form. Also expressions for the corresponding truncation error coefficients are derived. Third, practical estimators for evaluation of the disturbing gravitational gradients are formulated, and their correctness and expected accuracy are investigated. Finally, the practical estimators are applied for validation of a sample of the gradiometric data provided by the GOCE satellite mission. Obtained results demonstrate applicability of the new apparatus as an alternative validation method of the satellite gravitational gradients. [Termes IGN] polarimétrie radarRésumé : (Auteur) This paper presents fully polarimetric bistatic radar scattering measurements on groups of dielectric vertical and/or tilted square cross-sectional cylinders above a conductive circular plate in the frequency range of 6-18 GHz. The experiments have been conducted in the BABI facility at the French Aerospace Lab (ONERA). The imaging experiments consider an azimuthal bistatic radar configuration with a single incident direction and many scattering directions, in the way that the receiver positions synthesize a 1-D circular aperture in a horizontal plane around the focal point of the anechoic chamber. The bistatic scattering by the different sets of cylinders is also achieved through numerical simulations by using a volume-electric-field-integral-equation model employing a method of moments. First, theoretical and experimental bistatic radar-cross-section values are confronted. The comparisons show a good agreement for all polarization cases (vv, hv, vh, and hh). Then, a near-field reconstruction algorithm has been extended from a monostatic to our bistatic radar configuration in order to generate the reflectivity maps by focusing both theoretical and experimental scattered fields. The comparisons of the 2-D bistatic synthetic aperture radar images show that the two prediction techniques are accurate.
