To develop and to assess such techniques, researchers and designers have to face choices in terms of which development tools to adopt, and with very little information about how such tools support some of the very basic tasks for information visualization, such as selecting data items, linking and navigating. As a solution, we propose Flex-ER, a flexible web-based environment that enables users to prototype, debug and share experimental conditions and results. Flex-ER enables users to quickly switch between hardware platforms and input modalities by using a JSON specification that supports both defining interaction techniques and tasks at a low cost. We demonstrate the flexibility of the environment through three task design examples: brushing, linking and navigating. A qualitative user study suggest that Flex-ER can be helpful to prototype and explore different interaction techniques for immersive analytics. [Termes IGN] visualisation 3DRésumé : (Auteur) When QGIS 3.0 was released in 2018, it added support for 3D visualisation. At the same time, CityJSON has been developing as an easy‐to‐use JavaScript Object Notation (JSON) encoding for 3D city models using the CityGML 2.0 data model. Together, this opened the possibility to support semantic 3D city models in the popular open‐source GIS software for the first time. In order to add support for 3D city models in QGIS, we have developed a plugin that enables CityJSON datasets to be loaded. The plugin parses a CityJSON file and analyses its tree structure to identify all city objects. Then, the geometry and attributes of every city object are transformed into QGIS features and divided into layers according to user preferences. CityJSON parsing was proven to be straightforward and consistent when tested against several open datasets. One of the biggest challenges we faced, though, was mapping CityJSON’s hierarchical data structure to the relational model of QGIS. We undertook this issue by providing various methods on how geometries from the model are loaded as QGIS features. We intend to use the plugin for educational purposes in our university and we believe it can be proven a worthy tool for researchers and practitioners. [Termes IGN] système de gestion de base de donnéesRésumé : (Auteur) The large volume and variety of data produced in the current Big Data era lead companies to seek solutions for the efficient data management. Within this context, NoSQL databases rise as a better alternative to the traditional relational databases, mainly in terms of scalability and availability of data. A usual feature of NoSQL databases is to be schemaless, i.e., they do not impose a schema or have a flexible schema. This is interesting for systems that deal with complex data, such as GIS. However, the lack of a schema becomes a problem when applications need to perform processes such as data validation, data integration, or data interoperability, as there is no pattern for schema representation in NoSQL databases. On the other hand, the JSON language stands out as a standard for representing and exchanging data in document NoSQL databases, and JSON Schema is a schema representation language for JSON documents that it is also leading to become a standard. However, it does not include spatial data types. From this limitation, this paper proposes an extension to JSON Schema, called JS4Geo, that allows the definition of schemas for geographic data. We demonstrate that JS4Geo is able to represent schemas of any NoSQL data model, as well as other standards for geographic data, like GML and KML. We also present a case study that shows how a data integration system can benefit of JS4Geo to define local schemas for geographic datasets and generate an integrated global schema. [Termes IGN] UMLRésumé : (auteur) This study aims to improve the interoperability between the application domains of Building Information Modelling (BIM) and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) by linking and harmonizing core information concepts. Many studies have investigated the integration of application schemas and data instances according to the BIM model IFC and the GIS model CityGML. This study investigates integration between core abstract concepts from IFC and ISO/TC 211 standards for GIS—independent of specific application schemas. A pattern was developed for conversion from IFC EXPRESS schemas to Unified Modelling Language (UML) models according to ISO/TC 211 standards. Core concepts from the two application domains were linked in the UML model, and conversions to implementation schemas for the Geography Markup Language (GML) and EXPRESS were tested. The results showed that the IFC model could be described as an ISO/TC 211 compliant UML model and that abstract concepts from ISO/TC 211 standards could be linked to core IFC concepts. Implementation schemas for BIM and GIS formats could be derived from the UML model, enabling implementation in applications from both domains without conversion of concepts. Future work should include refined linking and harmonization of core abstract concepts from the two application domains. [Termes IGN] WiFiRésumé : (auteur) Traditionally, the standards of spatial modeling are oriented to represent the quantitative information of space. However, in recent years an increasingly common challenge is appearing: flexibly and appropriately integrating quantitative information that goes beyond the purely geometric. This problem has been aggravated due to the success of new paradigms such as the Internet of Things. This adds an additional challenge to the representation of this information due to the need to represent characteristic information of the space from different points of view in a model, such as WiFi coverage, dangerous surroundings, etc. While this problem has already been addressed in indoor spaces with the IndoorGML standard, it remains to be solved in outdoor and indoor–outdoor spaces. We propose to take the advantages proposed in IndoorGML, such as cellular space or multi-layered space model representation, to outdoor spaces in order to create indoor–outdoor models that enable the integration of heterogeneous information that represents different aspects of space. We also propose an approach that gives more flexibility in spatial representation through the integration of standards such as OpenLocationCode for the division of space. Further, we suggest a procedure to enrich the resulting model through the information available in OpenStreetMap.
