[Termes IGN] télémétrie laser aéroportéRésumé : (Auteur) During the last 20 years, airborne laser scanning (ALS), often combined with passive multispectral information from aerial images, has shown its high feasibility for automated mapping processes. The main benefits have been achieved in the mapping of elevated objects such as buildings and trees. Recently, the first multispectral airborne laser scanners have been launched, and active multispectral information is for the first time available for 3D ALS point clouds from a single sensor. This article discusses the potential of this new technology in map updating, especially in automated object-based land cover classification and change detection in a suburban area. For our study, Optech Titan multispectral ALS data over a suburban area in Finland were acquired. Results from an object-based random forests analysis suggest that the multispectral ALS data are very useful for land cover classification, considering both elevated classes and ground-level classes. The overall accuracy of the land cover classification results with six classes was 96% compared with validation points. The classes under study included building, tree, asphalt, gravel, rocky area and low vegetation. Compared to classification of single-channel data, the main improvements were achieved for ground-level classes. According to feature importance analyses, multispectral intensity features based on several channels were more useful than those based on one channel. Automatic change detection for buildings and roads was also demonstrated by utilising the new multispectral ALS data in combination with old map vectors. In change detection of buildings, an old digital surface model (DSM) based on single-channel ALS data was also used. Overall, our analyses suggest that the new data have high potential for further increasing the automation level in mapping. Unlike passive aerial imaging commonly used in mapping, the multispectral ALS technology is independent of external illumination conditions, and there are no shadows on intensity images produced from the data. These are significant advantages in developing automated classification and change detection procedures. [Termes IGN] interpolation spatialeRésumé : (auteur) Oblique airborne photogrammetry-based three-dimensional (3D) city model (OAP3D) provides a spatially continuous representation of urban landscapes that encompasses buildings, road networks, trees, bushes, water bodies, and topographic features. OAP3D is usually present in the form of a group of unclassified triangular meshes under a multi-resolution data structure. Modifying such a non-separable landscape constitutes a daunting task because manual mesh editing is normally required. In this paper, we present a systematic approach for easily embedding user-generated content into OAP3D. We reduce the complexity of OAP3D modification from a 3D mesh operation to a two-dimensional (2D) raster operation through the following workflow: (1) A region of interest (ROI) is selected to cover the area that is intended to be modified for accommodating user-defined content. (2) Spatial interpolation using a set of manually controlled elevation samples is employed to generate a user-defined digital surface model (DSM), which is used to reform the ROI surface. (3) User-generated objects, for example, artistically painted road textures, procedurally generated water effects, and manually created 3D building models, are overlaid onto the reformed ROI. [Termes IGN] semis de pointsRésumé : (auteur) Advances in three-dimensional (3D) optical imaging have made possible precise and accurate measurements of many scenes, ranging from engineering to architecture to art. However, measurements of some 3D objects are more difficult to obtain than others, particularly if the edges do not feature regular geometry, the colour is dark and variable, and if the object moves haphazardly. Such objects occur regularly in biology, and the present study illustrates some of the challenges of evaluating such objects. The growing antlers of three live reindeer (Rangifer tarandus) is presented as an example of how 3D imaging, specifically time-of-flight range imaging, can be used to solve to a reasonable extent a problem that is very difficult to approximate using traditional techniques. Mean antler growth velocities of the order of 7 to 9 mm/day were estimated, using the proposed methodology, from data of these three animals collected over a seven-week period. [Termes IGN] image 3DRésumé : (Auteur) In this paper, we propose a fast 3-D empirical mode decomposition (fTEMD) method for hyperspectral images (HSIs) to achieve class-oriented multitask learning (cMTL). The major steps of the proposed method are twofold: 1) fTEMD and 2) cMTL. On the one hand, the traditional empirical mode decomposition is extended to its 3-D version, which naturally treats the HSI as a cube and effectively decomposes the HSI into several 3-D intrinsic mode functions (TIMFs). To accelerate the fTEMD, 3-D Delaunay triangulation is adopted to determine the distances of extrema, whereas separable filters are implemented to generate the envelopes. On the other hand, cMTL is performed on the TIMFs by taking those TIMFs as features of different tasks. The proposed cMTL learns the representation coefficients by taking advantage of the class labels and fully exploiting the information contained in each TIMF. Experiments conducted on three benchmark data sets demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method. [Termes IGN] semis de pointsRésumé : (Auteur) An algorithm for pairwise non-rigid registration of 3D point clouds is presented in the specific context of isometric deformations. The critical step is registration of point clouds at different epochs captured from an isometric deformation surface within overlapping regions. Based on characteristics invariant under isometric deformation, a variant of the four-point congruent sets algorithm is applied to generate correspondences between two deformed point clouds, and subsequently a RANSAC framework is used to complete cluster extraction in preparation for global optimal alignment. Examples are presented and the results compared with existing approaches to demonstrate the two main contributions of the technique: a success rate for generating true correspondences of 90% and a root mean square error after final registration of 2–3 mm.
