[Termes IGN] précision géométrique (imagerie)Résumé : (auteur) This paper introduces a method based on centroid clustering and contour analysis to extract area and height measurements on buildings from the 3D model generated by oblique images. The method comprises three steps: (1) extract the contour plane from the fused data of the digital surface model (DSM) and digital orthophoto map (DOM); (2) identify building contour clusters based on the number of centroids contained in each category determined by mean-shift centroid clustering; (3) remove the mis-identified contours in a given building contour cluster by a contour analysis and obtain the geometric information of the building using map algebra. The proposed approach was tested against four datasets. Compared with other results, the detection has effective completeness, correctness, quality, and higher geometric accuracy. The maximum average relative error of building height and area extraction is less than 8%. The method is fast for a large-scale collection of building attributes and improves the applicability of oblique photography in GIS. [Termes IGN] précision des donnéesRésumé : (auteur) Traditional landscape photographs reaching back until the second half of the nineteenth century represent a valuable image source for the study of long-term landscape change. Due to the oblique perspective and the lack of geographical reference, landscape photographs are hardly used for quantitative research. In this study, oblique landscape photographs from the Norwegian landscape monitoring program are georeferenced using the WSL Monoplotting Tool with the aim of evaluating the accuracy of point and polygon features. In addition, the study shows how the resolution of the chosen digital terrain model and other factors affect accuracy. Points mapped on the landscape photograph had a mean displacement of 1.52 m from their location on a corresponding aerial photograph, while mapped areas deviated on average 5.6% in size. The resolution of the DTM, the placement of GCPs and the angle of incidence were identified as relevant factors to achieve accurate geospatial data. An example on forest expansion at the abandoned mountain farm Flysetra in Mid-Norway demonstrates how repeat photography facilitates the georectification process in the absence of reliable ground control points (GCPs) in very old photographs. [Termes IGN] structure-from-motionRésumé : (auteur) Accurate alignment of 3D models is critical for valid change‐detection analysis from multitemporal photogrammetric datasets. This paper assesses an automated registration strategy which uses the scale‐invariant feature transform (SIFT) algorithm implemented in modern photogrammetric software. This registration solution, also known as “Time‐SIFT”, was tested at two study sites featuring vertical surfaces, including a sea cliff (~500 m2) and a quarry face (~50 000 m2). Tests demonstrated that the investigated registration strategy can achieve accurate alignments between multitemporal point clouds even when using multisource and multi‐perspective data, captured across widely varying spatial and temporal scales and under a range of weather and illumination conditions. The combination of the Time‐SIFT approach with an ICP algorithm produced moderate improvements in the alignment. Furthermore, the use of an innovative direct georeferencing technique, which used the tracking feature of a robotic total station, allowed for accurate georectification of 3D models. [Termes IGN] StéréopolisRésumé : (auteur) The growing deployment of multi-head camera systems encouraged the emergence of specific processing algorithms, able to face the challenges posed by slanted view geometry. Such multi-camera systems are rigidly tied by their manufacturers hence the exploitation of this internal constraint should be further exploited. Several approaches have been proposed to deal with orientation constraints, with the aim of reducing the number of unknowns, computational time and possibly improve the accuracy. In this paper we compare the results provided by publicly available implementations in order to further investigate the advantages of enforcing relative orientation constraints for aerial and terrestrial triangulation of multi-head camera systems. Data from a Leica CityMapper and a Stereopolis-Ladybug are considered, reporting how constrained solution can improve accuracy with respect to traditional (unconstrained) bundle block adjustment solutions. [Termes IGN] zone urbaineRésumé : (auteur) The perspective distortion of oblique images has a substantial impact on dense matching, i.e., it reduces the matching precision. In this article, a strategy of dense matching in which the object plane direction is considered is proposed. According to many regular planes in urban areas, epipolar rectification with minimum distortions relative to the selected reference planes can be generated. The matching results of epipolar images relative to various reference planes are weighted and fused into a single depth map, which is a better matching result. The experimental results demonstrate that the perspective distortion has a substantial influence on the dense matching performance. The root-mean-square error (RMSE) of the flatness for horizontal objects is increased by approximately 30%, and the RMSE of the flatness for façades is increased by approximately 40%. Hence, the proposed matching strategy, in which the object plane is considered, can effectively improve the matching results.
