[Termes IGN] signalRésumé : (auteur) Accurate ranging and wideband tracking are treated as two independent and separate processes in traditional radar systems. As a result, limited by low data rate due to nonsequential processing, accurate ranging usually performs low efficiency in practical application. Similarly, without applying accurate ranging, the data after thresholding and clustering are used in wideband tracking, leading to a significant decrease in tracking accuracy. In this article, an integrated Kalman filter of accurate ranging and tracking is proposed using methods of phase-derived-ranging and Bayesian inference in wideband radar. Besides the motion state, in this integrated Kalman filter, the complex-valued high-resolution range profile (HRRP) is also introduced as a reference signal by coherent integration in a sliding window, which incorporates target’s scattering distribution and phase characteristics. Corresponding kinetic equations are derived to predict the motion state and the reference signal in the next moment. A ranging process is constructed based on the received signal and the predicted reference signal in order to estimate innovation using methods of phase-derived-ranging and Bayesian inference, and a sequential update for motion state can be accomplished with the Kalman filter as well. In every recursion, the complex-valued reference signal is also updated by coherently integrating the latest pulses. The integrated Kalman filter takes full use of high range resolution and phase information, improving both efficiency and precision compared with conventional approaches of ranging and wideband tracking. Implemented in a sequential manner, the integrated Kalman filter can be applied in a real-time application, realizing simultaneous ranging with high precision and wideband tracking. Finally, simulated and real-measured experiments confirm the remarkable performance. Traditional choropleth mapping methods assume that data to be displayed are certain. This may not be true for many real-world problems. For example, attributes generated based on surveys may contain sampling and non-sampling error, and results generated using statistical inferences often come with a certain level of uncertainty. In recent years, several studies have incorporated uncertain geographical attributes into choropleth mapping with a primary focus on identifying the most homogeneous classes. However, no studies have yet accounted for the possibility that an areal unit might be placed in a wrong class due to data uncertainty. This paper addresses this issue by proposing a robustness measure and incorporating it into the optimal design of choropleth maps. In particular, this study proposes a discretization method to solve the new optimization problem along with a novel theoretical bound to evaluate solution quality. The new approach is applied to map the American Community Survey data. Test results suggest a tradeoff between within-class homogeneity and robustness. The study provides an important perspective on addressing data uncertainty in choropleth map design and offers a new approach for spatial analysts and decision-makers to incorporate robustness into the mapmaking process. [Termes IGN] régressionRésumé : (auteur) Recently, collaborative representation classification (CRC) has attracted much attention for hyperspectral image analysis. In particular, tangent space CRC (TCRC) has achieved excellent performance for hyperspectral image classification in a simplified tangent space. In this article, novel Bagging-based TCRC (TCRC-bagging) and Boosting-based TCRC (TCRC-boosting) methods are proposed. The main idea of TCRC-bagging is to generate diverse TCRC classification results using the bootstrap sample method, which can enhance the accuracy and diversity of a single classifier simultaneously. For TCRC-boosting, it can provide the most informative training samples by changing their distributions dynamically for each base TCRC learner. The effectiveness of the proposed methods is validated using three real hyperspectral data sets. The experimental results show that both TCRC-bagging and TCRC-boosting outperform their single classifier counterpart. In particular, the TCRC-boosting provides superior performance compared with the TCRC-bagging. [Termes IGN] voyageRésumé : (auteur) Global positioning system (GPS) data generated from taxi trips is a valuable source of information that offers an insight into travel behaviours of urban populations with high spatio-temporal resolution. However, in its raw form, GPS taxi data does not offer information on the purpose (or intended activity) of travel. In this context, to enhance the utility of taxi GPS data sets, we propose a two-layer framework to identify the related activities of each taxi trip automatically and estimate the return trips and successive activities after the trip, by using geographic point-of-interest (POI) data and a combination of spatio-temporal clustering, Bayesian inference and Monte Carlo simulation. Two million taxi trips in New York, the United States of America, and ten million taxi trips in Shenzhen, China, are used as inputs for the two-layer framework. To validate each layer of the framework, we collect 6,003 trip diaries in New York and 712 questionnaire surveys in Shenzhen. The results show that the first layer of the framework performs better than comparable methods published in the literature, while the second layer has high accuracy when inferring return trips. [Termes IGN] SuèdeRésumé : (auteur) Background: The increasing availability of remotely sensed data has recently challenged the traditional way of performing forest inventories, and induced an interest in model-based inference. Like traditional design-based inference, model-based inference allows for regional estimates of totals and means, but in addition for wall-to-wall mapping of forest characteristics. Recently Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR)-based maps of forest attributes have been developed in many countries and been well received by users due to their accurate spatial representation of forest resources. However, the correspondence between such mapping and model-based inference is seldom appreciated. In this study, we applied hierarchical model-based inference to produce aboveground biomass maps as well as maps of the corresponding prediction uncertainties with the same spatial resolution. Further, an estimator of mean biomass at regional level, and its uncertainty, was developed to demonstrate how mapping and regional level assessment can be combined within the framework of model-based inference.
Results: Through a new version of hierarchical model-based estimation, allowing models to be nonlinear, we accounted for uncertainties in both the individual tree-level biomass models and the models linking plot level biomass predictions with LiDAR metrics. In a 5005 km2 large study area in south-central Sweden the predicted aboveground biomass at the level of 18 m ×18 m map units was found to range between 9 and 447 Mg ·ha−1. The corresponding root mean square errors ranged between 10 and 162 Mg ·ha−1. For the entire study region, the mean aboveground biomass was 55 Mg ·ha−1 and the corresponding relative root mean square error 8%. At this level 75% of the mean square error was due to the uncertainty associated with tree-level models.
Conclusions: Through the proposed method it is possible to link mapping and estimation within the framework of model-based inference. Uncertainties in both tree-level biomass models and models linking plot level biomass with LiDAR data are accounted for, both for the uncertainty maps and the overall estimates.
