Based on the raw geographic information system (GIS) data laid out as sparse polylines with attributes, we compute a more adequate functional description for real-time simulation of on-road vehicle animation. The proposed approach begins with a filtering/subdivision module where the raw polylines are transformed into a graph of functional road segments as arcs and the nodes as intersections. Then, the vehicle speed profile is computed based on its dynamics, its neighborhood and the curvature profile of the road. Afterward, a multi-agent system is proposed in order to handle a large number of simulated vehicle/driver couples. Finally, we deploy a 3D rendering engine to display the computed 3D simulation on screen. The resulting model satisfies most of the real road features for traffic simulation including road interchanges, roundabouts, intersections, lanes, etc. More importantly, the simulated driving qualitatively mimics the real behavior of the drivers/vehicles on the road as can be seen in the accompanying video (RTSP video). We also validate our findings with a technical assessment based on macroscopic and microscopic traffic simulation metrics in several road traffic scenarios. [Termes IGN] OpenStreetMapRésumé : (Auteur) Crossing an intersection is a challenge for visually impaired people. While tactile maps can be a medium for appropriating this complex space, they benefit from being complemented by audio information. In this paper we propose a data model to describe an intersection, the paths that allow to cross it, and their accessibility attributes. We also present methods to generate this model automatically from OpenStreetMap, by inferring missing data through graph analysis techniques. Finally, we present an implementation, the evaluation of which confirms the ability of the model to generate a compliant description for intersections with enough data. [Termes IGN] transformation de HoughRésumé : (Auteur) In this paper, the possibility of reconstructing object lines using a smartphone’s rear dual camera (wide-angle and telephoto) was examined through designing a semi-automatic system. After calibrating both cameras, six scenes for each of three objects were captured and rectified. Object lines were categorised into six groups based on the distance and angle to the dual camera system. Image lines were extracted using the linear Hough transform technique and points of intersection detected. Stereo pairing of conjugate points then allowed the calculation of object coordinates and the lengths of object lines were compared to their lengths measured by a digital caliper. The best line reconstruction results were achieved with the smallest distance and angle to the dual camera system. [Termes IGN] toitRésumé : (auteur) The characteristics of data points obtained by laser scanning (LiDAR) and images have been considered complementary in the field of photogrammetric applications, and research to improve their integrated use have recently intensified. This study aim to verify the performance of determining punctual entities in a LiDAR point cloud using linear regression and intersecting lines obtained from buildings with square rooftop containing four planes (hip roof), as well as compare punctual entities three-dimensional coordinates determined by planes intersection. Our results show that the proposed method was more accurate in determining three-dimensional coordinates than plan intersection method. The obtained coordinates were evaluated and framed into the map accuracy standard for digital cartographic products (PEC-PCD), besides being analyzed for trend and precision. Accuracy analysis results frame punctual entities three-dimensional coordinates into the 1:2,000 or lower scale for Class A of PEC-PCD. [Termes IGN] villeRésumé : (Auteur) Identifying urban boundaries involves analysing both the functional and the morphological aspects of urban systems. In this paper, we adopt a purely morphological approach and compare three methods for the morphological delineation of cities. Each method avoids using any predefined quantified threshold (size, distance, built density, etc.) to detect crucial discontinuities in space. The first method identifies Natural Cities by clustering points. The other two are the fractal-based MorphoLim method and the Hierarchical Percolation; both involve transforming the data using a step-by-step dilation process. The three methods are critically compared and illustrated by applications to theoretical urban patterns. We further apply each method to the urban agglomeration of Brussels, the Belgian capital, using different data (building footprints, building centroids and street nodes) and considering two study areas, namely the former province of Brabant and the entire country of Belgium. The results show that it is impossible to draw an unambiguous morphological boundary for an urban agglomeration. Consequently, it is crucial to relate the data used, the size of the study area and the method chosen to the objectives of the delineation.
