[Termes IGN] sismologieRésumé : (auteur) We investigate the initiation phase of the 2014 Mw8.1 Iquique earthquake in northern Chile. In particular, we focus on the month preceding the mainshock, a time period known to exhibit an intensification of the seismic and aseismic activity in the region. The goal is to estimate the time-evolution and partitioning of seismic and aseismic slip during the preparatory phase of the mainshock. To do so, we develop a Bayesian inversion scheme to infer the spatio-temporal evolution of pre-slip from position time-series along with the corresponding uncertainty. To extract the aseismic component to the pre-seismic motion, we correct geodetic observations from the displacement induced by foreshocks. We find that aseismic slip accounts for ∼80 percents of the slip budget. That aseismic slip takes the form of a slow-slip events occurring between 20 to 5 days before the future mainshock. This time-evolution is not consistent with self-accelerating fault slip, a model that is often invoked to explain earthquake nucleation. Instead, the slow-slip event seems to have interacted with the foreshock sequence such that the foreshocks contributed to the arrest of aseismic slip. In addition, we observe some evidence of late self-accelerating slip, but associated with large uncertainties, making it difficult to assess its reliability from our observations alone. The method relies on pseudorange and beat carrier-phase measurements of signals that propagate in the ionosphere along curved trajectories, where signals are refracted back downwards from the ionosphere. It has been demonstrated that the location of a receiver can be determined if several signals, broadcast from beacons at different locations, are received and processed at a user receiver. A challenge of determining exact signal paths is the uncertainty in the ionosphere’s electron density distribution. This is addressed by a batch filter that simultaneously estimates the receiver position along with corrections to a parametric model of the ionosphere. A previous paper developed the theory and batch filter for this concept. The present study examines its potential performance. Total horizontal position errors on the order of tens to hundreds of meters are achieved, depending on the case’s characteristics. This study presents an approach to realistically reflect the time dependent behaviors of ground reference points while maintaining the long-term stability of a datum. An adaptive approach coupled with the Euler motion model is proposed for dividing an area into blocks. A least-squares collocation is then applied for modeling the residual velocities in each block. A case study using the data from 375 continuously operated GNSS stations in Taiwan is presented. It is illustrated that the complex surface kinematics in this region can be divided into three blocks. Significant reductions up to 64% of residual velocities were obtained. This shows that a stable datum can be established in a region with active and complicated surface kinematics by implementing the proposed. An ideal multivariate spatial clustering should consider both spatial contiguity and aspatial attributes. Existing spatial clustering approaches may face challenges for discovering repeated geographic patterns with spatial contiguity maintained. In this paper, we propose a Spatial Toeplitz Inverse Covariance-Based Clustering (STICC) method that considers both attributes and spatial relationships of geographic objects for multivariate spatial clustering. A subregion is created for each geographic object serving as the basic unit when performing clustering. A Markov random field is then constructed to characterize the attribute dependencies of subregions. Using a spatial consistency strategy, nearby objects are encouraged to belong to the same cluster. To test the performance of the proposed STICC algorithm, we apply it in two use cases. The comparison results with several baseline methods show that the STICC outperforms others significantly in terms of adjusted rand index and macro-F1 score. Join count statistics is also calculated and shows that the spatial contiguity is well preserved by STICC. [Termes IGN] valeur aberranteRésumé : (auteur) The Real-Time Kinematic (RTK) positioning algorithm is a promising positioning technique that can provide real-time centimeter-level positioning precision in GNSS-friendly areas. However, the performance of RTK can degrade in GNSS-hostile areas like urban canyons. The surrounding buildings and trees can reflect and block the Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) signals, obstructing GNSS receivers’ ability to maintain signal tracking and exacerbating the multipath effect. A common method to assist RTK is to couple RTK with the Inertial Navigation System (INS). INS can provide accurate short-term relative positioning results. The Extended Kalman Filter (EKF) is usually used to couple RTK with INS, whereas the GNSS outlying observations significantly influence the performance. The Robust Kalman Filter (RKF) is developed to offer resilience against outliers. In this study, we design an algorithm to improve the traditional RKF. We begin by implementing the tightly coupled RTK/INS algorithm and the conventional RKF in C++. We also introduce our specific implementation in detail. Then, we test and analyze the performance of our codes on public datasets. Finally, we propose a novel algorithm to improve RKF and test the improvement. We introduce the Carrier-to-Noise Ratio (CNR) to help detect outliers that should be discarded. The results of the tests show that our new algorithm’s accuracy is improved when compared to the traditional RKF. We also open source the majority of our code, as we find there are few open-source projects for coupled RTK/INS in C++. Researchers can access the codes at our GitHub.
